Patch 3.3 PTR: Blizzard unveils Tier 10

Blizzard seems to be heading off the data-mining race by showcasing the Tier 10 armor sets in their own little page. While not all of the class armor is available for viewing, the gallery shows more than what is currently available through other World of Warcraft news sites -- a change of pace from the days where data-mined previews are king. Instead, Blizzard makes it easy for players to see what's in store for them in Icecrown.
Currently, the Death Knight, Druid, Hunter, and Warrior tier armor sets are available for viewing. The Death Knight armor set is different from the Warrior's, which indicates a return to class-based armor models. But wait... what's this? The Warrior armor seems to preview two colors of armor -- one blue worn by a dwarf, and a red version worn by an orc. Does this indicate that even though the armor models will be class-based, the coloration will be different according to faction? That would be an interesting way to address the question of class- and faction-based armor design. A look at the Druid armor set reveals very minor color differences between the Tauren and Night Elf versions, however. Stay tuned to WoW.com for more Tier 10 updates! For now, sate yourselves with the Tier 10 gallery below.
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to the Arthas. WoW.com's Guide to Patch 3.3 will keep you updated with all the latest patch news.

Indeed, some of the recent/older sets might have been a disappointment to some, but these new manifestations are just pure crap from every angle and in every respect, IMHO. They really don't seem to be "Icecrown Themed" if you get what I mean (runes, Nordic patterns, fuck-tons of skulls, etc.) not to mention they just look a lot, well, plainer than the more recent tier sets (with the possible exception of warrior). Sure, the tier 9 set was all uniform and what not, but it still felt like it had more substance than this crap.
I hope these are nowhere near ready and still have lots more polish and redesign phases to go through.

Pig shoulders

I'm wondering the same thing... Warrior shoulders got pigs on them... WHY PIGS?!!
Other than that, Its pretty sweet! DK and rouge ones are looking pretty sharp too!

Pig shoulders... Why couldn't they have picked a better animal? Bear? Rhino? Even a turtle would have been better than a pig.

The Hunter gear looks like they're covered in wood :( makes me sad. The only good set is the Horde Warrior set. The Druid set looks almost like something out of the Nightmare is taking them over.

I have to agree on that hunter set, it left me....Underwhelmed.
bair.andy Oct 7th 2009 10:46PM
not only is hunter gear covered in wood - it looks a bit like we've developed unicorn-like facial features. bladed unicorn, but unicorn nonetheless.

Hunters are the new Warlock Demonology Pet

This is payback for us for having laughed at warriors in their T2 axe-on-head armour set. :(

This armor set, and for that matter the last armor set, just look actrocious. The last set was garish, this one just plane sucks. It's either tree bark or they forgot we wear mail at later levels and not shit-hide leather. I've seen better looking armor out of clefthoof hides. This makes me very sad.

we look like a triceratops

Anything is better than the stupidly garish hunter t9.

criticism of the tier set graphics? this is my surprise face. people have been bitching about every single set since as far back as the first dungeon set overhaul. yes, people even complained about the paladin judgement set at first. in the end though, they could add a tutu and put magical rainbows over your shoulders and you would still wear it regardless.

I can turn off the helm, and the rest of it I don't mind. Except for the weird, cartoon-bear-paw feet. I have never been so happy to play a troll.

Even though I am curious to see what the new patch brings, I have mixed feelings about tier 10 coming out so soon. I am on a high population PVP server and I have only seen a few people with full triumph gear. It seems like they are pushing out content to fast, but hey that is just my opinion.

I have a feeling that 3.3 is going to be more then a couple of months away from being released, and with the changes to emblem drops, getting your hands on t9 sets shouldn't be that much of an issue.
Spiraea Oct 7th 2009 11:46PM
I have to believe Blizzard has learned from Burning Crusade to not release the final patch containing the expansion's boss tpo early before the next expansion. Unless of course they purposely have a 3.4 (similar to 2.4) patch in mind already..
Quixote Oct 8th 2009 11:47AM
Sorry Spiraea but your information is a bit out of date methinks.
Blizzard is actually going back the opposite direction from BC, which I think is perhaps a good thing and not a bad thing. They announced at BlizzCon that they are going to (or at least planning to) release every single major raid for Cataclysm at the time of the expansion, and ready on day one. So they won't be doing content patches per raid, all the raids will be ready at launch.
However, for some pacing they also said they plan to reintroduce SOME type of attunement or keying mechanism - not as stringent as BC, but something in the middle that is supposed to pace content AND be fun. That's the goal.
That does leave one open question though. If they are not going to release a bunch of raids via content patches then what new goodness are the content patches going to hold? Or will we see more frequent expansions rather than a year and a half of content patches? Only time will tell I guess.

The Death Knight ones are decent looking, the others are a bit terribad...
