Patch 3.3 PTR: Disenchant as a loot option

As it stands right now, when a blue or epic item is dropped in an instance, players have several options to choose from: Need, greed or pass. A recent glance at the new Patch 3.3 PTR UI changes shows some new strings:
- LOOT_ROLL_DISENCHANT = "%s has selected Disenchant for: %s";
- LOOT_ROLL_DISENCHANT_SELF = "You have selected Disenchant for: %s";
- LOOT_ROLL_WON_NO_SPAM_DE = "%1$s won: %3$s |cff818181(Disenchant - %2$d)|r";
The first two lines mean that other players in your party or yourself have selected the dropped item to be disenchanted. The last line means if roll spam is turned off, what you'll end up seeing is something like "Player has won Item (to be disenchanted)". I suspect how the priority on loot will work is players who select Need will get first crack at it, followed by Greed rollers. Disenchant would be the third option. Pass would be last.
I have this strange feeling that we're not going to see that many players passing on an item anymore even with no enchanters in the group. This will be helpful during raids where there are no enchanters around to help break any items that aren't going to be used.

Nice idea! :D

If it's nice or not depends on how it's implemented imho. If any group can do it I think it is extremely boring and another step towards universal "I Win!" buttons.
I think, and hope, it'll work like this:
* Need
* Disenchant (if you are enchanter)
* Greed
* Pass
Higher in list, higher priority.
With an extra options in group settings to allow disenchant rolls.

I have to know. Why do you feel the need to screw people out of an item? By your list, if I greed for off-spec and you choose DE, then you get a shard over improving my character. By the usual loot rolls, this doesn't make sense.
This is the priority it should follow which, I believe, is in the article. "Normal" loot rules.
*Need
*Greed
*DE
*Pass
We're just able to split DE out of Greed. Also, the article points out this will likely be usable when an enchanter is not in group so the item will not go to waste.

Sure np. That'll be 10g per disenchant

DE should = Greed. Same priority.
Usually when someone wants something for offspec, they ask if they can Need for offspec, or they wait to see if anyone Needs for main spec and then ask if no one Needs.
Greed is typically used just to get an item to vendor or auction for a little extra gold, in which case DE should have same priority.

Not really i find it unfair if you think about it. That takes away from an enchanter who worked hard and spent a lot of gold to max it out. It would be like if you were to kill a beast, you get to loot its fur. Well then players who have skinning as their profession would be a little pissed. What i like to do since dream shards sell for about 25g, i like to buy blues off people at the end of a dungeon run, d/e them and use them to buy more patterns or enchants. Its also like saying oh theres a mine over. everyone roll and then since your a miner you pick the ores and give it to whoever won the roll. No thats not fair because he put the time and effort to level mining so its his mine (Unless theres two miners in the group)

I'd think that Disenchant would have priority over greed, actually, just as it does in game now.

Is this comment real or sarcasm? I can't actually tell. I would hope that greed has a higher priority than disenchanting. I've been going along thinking need was for upgrades you could use in your current spec, greed for offspecs or sidegrades, pass for crap you have no use for. If I'm doing it wrong I'd like to know. I might just get in a PuG someday.

People often roll greed for things they are going to sell away.
OLDMIKE Oct 8th 2009 4:58AM
and in PUGS ppl need for offspecs also
it all ways buged me enchaters need to fight for mats as they cant farm them
Nathanyel Oct 8th 2009 6:30AM
For offspecs, you roll need if no one else does (or even then, if the others are fine with that)
Nathanyel Oct 8th 2009 6:33AM
Greed is just for selling stuff no one wants (or Disenchanter-only in groups with one of them)
traptinacivicsi Oct 8th 2009 9:11AM
On my server, if no one needs the item (and at endgame who still needs greens?) and there's an enchanter, everyone just passes on it and the enchanter greeds.
Only exception would be if its for an alt, but you can't really prove its an upgrade without either having them look you up on the armory or switching toons so... it never really happens..
The only thing that would change this is for the lower level stuff, which is cool because enchanters wont have to be of level to get mats they will be needing later.
Only DOWNside (from a sellers point of view) is that the mats are probably going to become even cheaper, and they're dirt cheap now (at least on the lower half of the skill list).

Hmm nevermind, I was thinking the 'loot system' would disenchant for you..
I don't see the point of this now..
Relk Dec 8th 2009 10:36AM
Don't forget healers don't get to roll Need on lower armor. My druid will be greeding on every cloth upgrade for her heal set. I understand that clothies should get first shot, but I better not have to compete with other people who just want to auction the shard. If so, remove this healer from the Pug system before it evens gets in. Just saying.
Bludstorm Oct 7th 2009 9:49PM
So does this mean that if someone wins a disenchant roll, the item gets disenchanted and the materials obtained are looted by you or is this going to be a roll option available only for enchanters?
Plastic Rat Oct 7th 2009 10:19PM
From what I gather it still needs somebody with enchanting to physically disenchant the item. However this is just an option to devide loot.
Sometimes players are clueless as to the benefits of disenchanting a BOP item, this might make players more aware I guess.
Leonffs Oct 7th 2009 9:50PM
Sure makes me glad I spent tons of gold leveling enchanting.
Chris A Oct 8th 2009 4:19AM
Same here. Spent 500g to level mine
Oneiromancer Oct 7th 2009 9:52PM
Crap, this will make it even more difficult for me to get that Greedy achievement...
