Patch 3.3 PTR: Disenchant as a loot option

As it stands right now, when a blue or epic item is dropped in an instance, players have several options to choose from: Need, greed or pass. A recent glance at the new Patch 3.3 PTR UI changes shows some new strings:
- LOOT_ROLL_DISENCHANT = "%s has selected Disenchant for: %s";
- LOOT_ROLL_DISENCHANT_SELF = "You have selected Disenchant for: %s";
- LOOT_ROLL_WON_NO_SPAM_DE = "%1$s won: %3$s |cff818181(Disenchant - %2$d)|r";
The first two lines mean that other players in your party or yourself have selected the dropped item to be disenchanted. The last line means if roll spam is turned off, what you'll end up seeing is something like "Player has won Item (to be disenchanted)". I suspect how the priority on loot will work is players who select Need will get first crack at it, followed by Greed rollers. Disenchant would be the third option. Pass would be last.
I have this strange feeling that we're not going to see that many players passing on an item anymore even with no enchanters in the group. This will be helpful during raids where there are no enchanters around to help break any items that aren't going to be used.
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to the Arthas. What Addon is that, anyone know?
Jimmy Oct 7th 2009 9:54PM
Nevermind, It is Xloot :)
Krugeroff Oct 8th 2009 11:52AM
thanks, I was going to ask the same question.
Ignola Oct 7th 2009 9:59PM
I would assume that it doesn't automatically disenchant the item. Rather, it gives you a third choice for loot priority, so like:
Need = want for use in a main gear set
Greed = want for offspec or just for fun
Disenchant = want it not for use, but for disenchanting it
Pass = don't want it for any reason, or letting someone else have it
If it auto-DE's the item then enchanters only have the advantage of DEing their own stuff, which is still a benefit, but I don't think Blizzard would make such a drastic change...
yo Oct 7th 2009 10:09PM
Exactly. There's no reason to think it'll work any differently.
Zerbe Oct 8th 2009 9:19AM
Agreed, I hope it works like that, but have to see how it works, but that seems lame if the game auto DE's for you.
Aceman67 Oct 7th 2009 10:39PM
I seriously hope that the disenchant option is only available as greed (since everyone can profit from Enchant mats, be it for actual enchantments, or AH fodder), and that Greed/Need rolls for the actual item take presidence over it.
Nathanyel Oct 8th 2009 6:36AM
I first thought you meant "Disenchant" would replace "Greed" when there's at least one enchanter in the group slash eligible for the loot, which would be perfect.
Shamman22 Oct 7th 2009 11:11PM
The wow loot system sucks soooo bad. They really need to look into changing it to something like DDO or WAR.
Emophia Oct 8th 2009 2:37AM
WAR had the exact same loot system as WoW...
Colerejuste Oct 7th 2009 11:26PM
I would think that Disenchant/Greed would work on the same /roll.
And if you selected Greed and won, you get the item in one piece.
And if you selected Disenchant and won, you would get the disenchant mats.
This would allow a bit more of "bring the player, not the profession", and would be really useful for 5 man groups. There's usually a better chance of a chanter being present in a 10man or 25man raid.

It took how many posts to get a sane reply.
Sad :(
jorge_av Oct 8th 2009 5:34AM
@ Daniel - How was that a sane reply? That loot option is just there so the group, probably a PuG, doesn't have to ask you why you are greeding everything. You'll still need an enchanter to get shards. Blizz will not add an option to the loot window so you can just magically get shards in your bags.
Colerejuste Oct 8th 2009 5:55AM
Sane, I'm not sure. Uninformed, for sure. Like every other comment
on these labels.
However, I'm inclined to think that Blizzard would add the option of
automatically disenchanting the item, rather than relying on there
being an enchanter in the group.
What would happen if there is no enchanter in the group? perhaps
they hide the DE option. Then does one of the chanters automatically
get the item so they can DE it and give the mats to the person who won
the roll? Sounds like opening the door to enable items to be ninja'd,
even more than it is already.
The only thing that doesnt rest easy with me for my comment is the
BoP trade timer. If the item gets DE'd immediately, and it was
mistake, then you loose the ability to trade that item. Its probably
status quo, but I'm Blizzard will post something in the PTR notes in
due course, if the feature should even see the light of day.

@ Colerejuste -
I would think if there is no enchanter in the group the option would just not show up. Originally I thought the disenchant option would only be visible to enchanters, then they would have the choice to hit that option & then everyone would be able to roll on shards afterward. But now, I'm thinking everyone will see the disenchant option IF there is an enchanter in the group, whoever wins the disenchant roll, that item will not appear in anyone's bag, but just show up in the winner's bag as shards.
That idea only works if there is an enchanter in the group. I still stand by my idea that it's just not a "I want enchanting mats" button.
Colerejuste Oct 8th 2009 8:45AM
@jorge_av
I like that idea too. Its an option if there is a chanter in the group.
I still think that the Greed and Disenchant option will be sorted in the same roll.
However, for practical purposes, I'm not sure if the heroic 5mans I run in will do it that way. At the end of the run, there's usually a shard for everyone, plus an abyssal for the highest roller. The Greed/DE option might end up with someone missing out, if no one actually needs any of the loot.
I was going to say "we're all adults, we'll sort it out", but then realised "we'll sort it out" will have to suffice.
lilrabbit129 Oct 8th 2009 11:01AM
I don't really like the idea that this will show up automatically if there is an enchanter in the group. That basically forces the enchanter to DE the item for the group. I think it should be the enchanter's choice whether they want to offer their services or not.
fernando Oct 8th 2009 3:17AM
disenchanting items means loosing money for the rest of the group. dreamshards are very cheap, and usually the items sold to vendors give more gold
dboobis Oct 8th 2009 6:20AM
I want to play on your server. Shards are upwards of 18g on mine...
Creese5704 Oct 8th 2009 3:29AM
What addon is that in the picture I love the look of that.
