Patch 3.3 PTR: Jaina gets a makeover [Updated]

The new face looks to have higher resolution than that of normal human female player characters and could be indicative of the new graphics to come with the Cataclysm (e.g., this matches the higher resolution Worgen and Goblin masks that were unveiled some time ago). This leaves a few more bosses, most notably Thrall -- who's still wearing Level 30 greens -- to get the makeover treatment. We know that Baine Bloodhoof is replacing Cairne, so the latter probably won't be getting a new model. It's interesting to see who else gets a nice makeover. The higher resolution, multi-angled sweet stuff after the jump.
UPDATE: Zarhym says that the update to Jaina comes at a perfect time as she and Sylvanas Windrunner (updated for Wrath of the Lich King) would play key roles in Icecrown. He also reveals that "other heroes" or key figures in Warcraft lore will probably get the same upgraded graphics to give them a more distinctive look.
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to the Arthas. WoW.com's Guide to Patch 3.3 will keep you updated with all the latest patch news.

No, it's the right height. It's a couple inches below her waist, which is correct anatomically.

I love the updated graphics but I have to agree with just about everyone, I think her old face model suits her much better. From that picture I see her old face resembles Anne Hathaway. WTB Anne Hathaway as Jaina in the WoW Movie!
Kaid Oct 7th 2009 10:33PM
Clothes yes. Face NO. She looks like a slapper.
Dart Oct 7th 2009 10:34PM
It doesn't fit her in the slightest. =/ She looks like a hooker.
Guildenstern Oct 7th 2009 11:04PM
Whoa, WTF is with that face? Back to the drawing board, Blizz!
I know she's on the wrong side of 30 now, but let's not go all Basic Instinct here.

Love the model. A little dissapointed that my mage wont look like her now :T
Now put her armor and shoulders in the game to wear! I always thought it was kind of weird that the "iconic" wow mage they used in all the vanilla wow promotions and such isnt available in the game to mages :(
Guildenstern Oct 7th 2009 11:12PM
OK, saw the picture of her over on MMO Champion. Slightly less skeeved out.
Love the armored crop-top, Jaina. I'm sure Thrall will dig it likewise as orcs appreciate a well-armored lady.

Warcraft 3 , she looked like a B-elf
WOW vanilla, blonde jewish princess
WOTLK.. the neighborhood hottie or the Cheerleader you always wanted to date, but couldn't get near to due to playing D&D and being a computer geek.
3.3 Snotty, Arrogant, Evil sorceress bitch look. Texture changes to armor and model fine.. Face.. FTL!!!
Pretty bad when the Sweetheart apple of Thrall's eye and frankly the most "wish she was real" NPC of the game, ends up being out hottied by a Banshee Queen( sylvanas)
Artificial Oct 7th 2009 11:35PM
Actually, the new texture looks a lot more like how she looked in Warcraft III than any of the previous WoW incarnations. In WC3 she wasn't "girl next door" look, she was definitely more "haughty" and "hottie". I always thought it was a shame that they took her more powerful, aristocratic, and yes, less pretty-faced look from WC3 and had to make her look more pleasant/pretty in WoW.
Artificial Oct 7th 2009 11:41PM
ugh... that was supposed to be "than". not "and". More "haughty" than "hottie".
Kia Oct 7th 2009 11:29PM
Change the face, Blizz! She looks like a stuck-up bitch! =\ Rest of the model looks fantastic, but ugh....that -face-.
alpha5099 Oct 7th 2009 11:45PM
I'm hoping that the snootiness is just a result of that neutral expression she's wearing. Hopefully with a little animation, she'll come alive a little more.
silentfox Oct 8th 2009 12:17AM
She looks pretty ^_^...but just not so Jaina-like. Sorta reminds me of how the High Elves used to look before BC. A much better version of that. I hope my human female can look this good soon too. And my Night Elf needs to look 100 times better. Like the pretty dryads in Northrend.
Ziernos Oct 8th 2009 12:26AM
Perhaps her faced is being transformed because she will eventually transform into the Lich Queen like in the comics, they needed to make her appear more sinister and bitchy looking.
Just a guess.
Guildenstern Oct 8th 2009 12:53AM
"she will eventually transform into the Lich Queen like in the comics"
ITT people who didn't actually read the comic.

God forbid there be a significant female character who doesn't have her cleavage and her stomach visible.

God forbid the fine display of Female Anatomy, truly a work of art ;)

I hate to say I don't like her, because I really really want to see more graphic updates for races, and I know they feel hesitant about updating anything when we players are so picky about changes.
But If you want honesty... I don't like her.
She is very well done, but not a direction I would have chosen to go.
Ie as mentioned before... she's snobbish. The warmth is gone from her eyes, possibly because her pupils are so much smaller and more blue. The old model had a bit of warmth to the eyes... I dunno... maybe it was accidental due to the poly count.
IRL, the woman on the left is someone I might avoid had I no reason to socialize.
IRL, the woman on the right seems very nice and I would feel comfortable around them before they ever said a word.

I wonder if they run focus groups for these things, even if they are this small..
