I like
this post on the General forums about being "realm-famous" and how to get there.
World of Warcraft has a gigantic community around it, but sometimes my favorite part of the game is that there are all sorts of little micro-communities in that big one. There's the player base at large, and then groups of people who read
WoW.com or other sites. Then you've got the realm forums denizens, and that's a different group than the factions on either side of each realm in-game. And then you've got your guild, and then within that, your raiders and maybe even your friends list. We're all part of one big group -- we all play the game together -- but there are all sorts of little identities in all of these little micro-groups as well.
And people can become "famous" in these groups. It's tough for us at a macro level to cover all of that stuff, though I like trying to keep up with some of it in
our Guildwatch column (and the picture above shows what happens when someone can become "realm-famous," or realm-infamous as the case may be. What's your experience with realm-fame -- can you name people on your own server, or have you ever gotten "famous" for nabbing a realm first or earning a reputation?

Trolls are sick, but not famous. They are well known if they're persistent, but famous is entirely a different ship.
I wouldn't even equate realm first with famous either, because .... do most people remember who leveled 1st on their realm? Aside from me having a vague recollection that it was a horde guild from my server, I don't even remember the name of the guild or the players though. I personally dislike the concept of server firsts because in essence they only reward one person and are not feats anyone else can obtain or have a fair chance to compete for. Most of you probably remember that guy who got world server first because he had a friend healing him, but I forgot his name already.
Famous is something like "Oh look, it's Illidan!" (Sure, this is an NPC, but you get the overall meaning. I remember Illidan and so do a lot of other players. On a side note: Too bad Blizzard copped out and made him go insane so people were forced to kill him at Black Temple - otherwise that would have been a great character to join as a third faction.)

Silvermoon-A. I nominate TastyHamster and Dinosaur for realm fame. Both apparently are/were massive Pvp epeen strokers. However...
TastyHamster had a cult following that still cries out in anguish at the absence of the Tasty One. Lo! These are the end days! The Hamster has retreated unto Her Den of Ancient Dreaming. Her return unto the mortal realms will be like unto a Cataclysm!
That or she changed servers. /cry
Dinosaur managed to nab the Corrupted Ashbringer before Naxx went away. And more famously, snagged the Scarab Lord title during the one day that AQ reset when Wrath launched. His epeen waving in 2/Trade with Aeothegreat and Duckoquack are the stuff of legends. Or /ignores.

Realm fame is pointless.
Typically you can become realm famous by just trolling trade or the forums long enough, being in one of the more well-known guilds (can be well-known through various methods, some negative some positive), or trying to do something on an RP server with your RP character that grabs everyone's attention (such as being a Mary Sue that everyone laughs at, or just being an overall good RPer that everyone in the RP community gets to know).

If my math is not wrong this would make me...
THIRD!
Hmmm, still feel nothing... Does the "first" thing that much better then the "third" one?

I'm famous for being the only Gnome Death Knight on the server to pick the incredibly ugly face.

Batley-Lothar. Need I say more? >

Uhh yes, as that means nothing to most of us

Well, seeing as it's "realm famous" so you wouldn't know unless you were on Lothar.... or living under a rock, or you like leaving negative comments and have a stick up your.. well you get it.

on quel'dorei i would say that Hood and Skitt are 'realm famous'. Hood for his hilarious PVP antics and Skitt for his Trade Ads.

Well... once during a 25 guild raid where there were several PuGs, I started joking, using a very sexy, low voice telling "For health stone, please press one, for Soulstone please press two, for a summon, please stand in line, your petition is being processed"
LoL, later iI found out I became kind of famous because of it, and even a couple of pugs joined our guild :P

The OP in that thread comments about Ashes of Al'ar. While the other posters disagree, you DO become realm-famous for NINJA-ing the mount. Nytrok on Bleeding Hollow.
Actually, he was featured in WoW.com's first "Guild of the Month", and after many, many people pointed out his ninjaing, the column disappeared for a couple months.
Hmm.

There are a couple famous People on Firetree, from an alliance perspective. Our famous troll is Bloodsail Admiral Bloodsail. Our Anti-troll is Fof, who has an addon that reports anyone using foul language in tradechat, then announces it. I know of a famous healer named Superdraenei, and an Undead Rogue named Stabyo that has single-handedly raided both Stormwind and Ironforge at least once every two weeks

There is a guy on the Echo Isles server on the alliance side that is infamous to all. His name is Beep. He trolls trade chat and says things like "That was the stupidest comment I have ever heard" or "because you Suck". He is very outspoken and not afraid to say what he thinks. I found it funny to watch everyone fight and go back and forth with him. It is funny to also see his character it is a 80 DK Girl Gnome with pink pigtails. Obviously a guy playing it .
People get really upset with him.. But at the same time they look for him in trade...:-)

I don't know of any famous people on Shadow Council. Nor any notorious ones. Just people worthy of my Badapples list.
On some of my old servers it used to be that some guilds were well known, but not people.
About the only person who I recall being famous was Deeogee of Thunderhorn who, during TBC would advertise his JC skills by taking old songs and turning them into jingles for his services in trade. Those tended to be interesting at first (he kept changing them)

Of the two realms I've mainly played on Yuk on Whisperwind - US has got to be the most famous. I haven't played on WW since way before LK but Yuk was awesome. He started world pvp days on a pve server and got everyone involved. Hundreds of people in every zone.. Most of my memories of that server were thanks to yuk.
NinthBatter Oct 8th 2009 12:05PM
Yeah Whisperwind has two famous people. Yuk for world pvp day and Tankserious for well being Tankserious.

On Darkspear EU alliance side, there is hunteruk, the main pvp leader on the server who also spams chat night and day-everyone knows him. Dozd, another troll who everyone knows and hates in a loving sort of way. And then there is duskyfox, who all raiders know as the number 1 GM and raid leader.

I never would have really considered myself "realm famous" until recently when my account got hacked, my main got transferred off the server and my day-one guild was disbanded in the process. The massive outpouring of support and concern from the Argent Dawn community was overwhelming, folks I never remembered helping out along the way came out of the woodwork to offer support in both major and minor ways making sure we got everything pulled back together. Blizzard did an amazing job putting the pieces back together, and I was back up and running in a little over 24 hours. But I'll never forget the way my "realm family" banded around me and my guild in our moment of struggle.
Thanks Argent Dawn

Schramm is my favourite WoW celebrity.

We have quite a few realm-famous people on Korialstrasz. My old main was sort of infamous for awhile.
She was Nythyx the warlock, and at one point butted in on a conversation on the realm forum. Little did I know the people discussing some guild drama were veterans of another guild from a different server. I chimed in where I shouldn't have and became known forever more as "Who's Nythyx?".
Wherever I would go, I would get whispers, /1 Who's Nythyx?, even trade channel sometimes would get caught up in it. Someone even went as far as to troll every forum post I made with a Who's NythyxGuess why I rolled a Death Knight? haha, jk.
We also have our resident author Tazeria, who was immortalized on our WoWWiki page for the realm, and received recognition on the Official WoW Player Stories page: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=9679752112&postId=96785639977&sid=1#5
There are plenty of others, who even come back to our realm forum after transferring to a new server, who frequently flame specific people. And we've definitely had our trade chat trolls like Adf, trade spammers like Ihsahn who is now infamous for his PUG groups (and happens to be my fiance), and many, many more!
