So they should make me a GREEN Fire Mage with a pet. Your point is pretty valid about SB spam not being fun though. Personally, I like the rapid-fire casting of Destro and I find it more fun than watching DOT counters. I suppose there could be a bit more differentiation in the mechanics of "blowing crap up" (vs. other classes). Maybe the re-vamp of Soul Shards will address this. The niches of Afflic (moar DOTs!), Demo (Meta/FG), and Destro (direct damage) are good though.
