Battle.net accounts required by November 11th
If you haven't merged your World of Warcraft account with a Battle.net account yet, you better do it soon! As a bonus incentive, players who do merge their accounts will receive Oswald the penguin! Those who already have merged their accounts need not worry as they will also get Oswald. Players that were involved with the Wrath beta may remember receiving one of these in the mail except he was known as Mr. Chilly then. I'm sure Oswald will make an excellent companion to Pengu (another penguin pet). Receiving Oswald is going to be a limited time offer. Blizzard hasn't officially announced a date yet, but they do plan on removing the ability to get him at some point.
Of course, not being allowed access into the game might be incentive enough to begin the account merging process!
For additional information, check out the Battle.net account FAQ, Instructions on creating a Battle.net account, a video tutorial on how to convert your account, or just make your account a Battle.net account now (US) (EU).
Note: There is a blue post saying November 12th, and the in-game announcement saying November 11th. If appears that EU players need to convert by the 12th, and NA/US players need to convert by the 11th. But be on the safe side and just convert your account now.

"MASSIVE QQ incoming......"
You mean massive flood of posts about "INC QQ" and "in b4 endless QQ" with no actual QQ post at all? ;P
Boydboyd Oct 12th 2009 8:05PM
It wouldn't hurt to get an authenticator while you're at it!

Here's your QQ:
I would LOVE to merge my account to Battlenet, if only Blizzard would send me the confirmation email. I tried several times -- so I could get the Authenticator -- but no email ever came, not even in my Spam folder. Trust me, I searched thoroughly.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but didn't they take out the "LFG" and "Friends" interfaces when the PTR first started as well? If so...given that they are supposed to add the cross-server LFG in 3.3, it doesn't seem like that far of a leap that they may add in the Battle.Net chat capabilities in this patch too.
I don't think I need to elaborate on just how awesome that would be if it happens!

I like your thinking, and if is the case, then we probably can expect the next patch around November 12th?

Just as long as it doesn't involve apple sauce and black Nike's!!!

I believe the penguin is named after Batman's Penguin aka Oswald Cobblepot
Worcester Oct 12th 2009 4:39PM
Yup, and I'm sure that Mr. Chilly refers to Chilly Willy, the cartoon penguin from the 1950s

Pengu is most likely a reference to the Swiss(?) clamation "Pingu". It brings back childhood memories every time i see one getting around, although, Pingu didn't appear to be demonspawn.

get it....a penguin...named oswald.....the penguin's name from batman: Oswald Cobblepot.
clever

LOL. I never thought of that. Very clever indeed.

hehe Oswald Cobblepot : The Penguin
Would be so awesome if he pulled out an umbrella with his idle animation.

Before endless streams of paranoids post here....
Now is the time to get an Authenticator.
No matter what your fears of account security due to using your email address for log in, the Authenticator will give you the ultimate security.

The only issue I have is if you have mulitple accounts, how are you supposed to create battle.net accounts for each one? We have 4 accounts, 3 of them are on authenticators, and 2 of those already have battle.net accounts. This means I'll have to setup 2 more email accounts for their accounts. I learned the hard way if you have the authenticator on the iPhone and associate all the accounts to one email address, the accounts that DON'T have an authenticator can't login. Once you get passed the authenticator portion of the login, THEN you get prompted to select which account you want to login to. I had to call Blizz to get the other 3 accounts dis-associated from my main email address.
This is going to be a mess.

You can merge multiple WoW accounts into one Battle.net Account. I think they just have to be under the same name.
Kaphik Oct 12th 2009 4:59PM
I have two accounts under a single Battle.net log in. When you log in the first time, after merging your accounts, a dialog box comes up and you select the account to log in. After that, if you use the Remember Account Name option at the log in screen, you will have a little drop down below that with however many accounts you had, and their old account name associated with them.
It works out very well, actually. I created a free email account solely for my Battle.net account name, and nothing else. I also use an Authenticator. I actually feel more secure about my WoW account information than I do my bank account information.
Janaa Oct 12th 2009 5:10PM
Just to reassure you, when you have multiple WoW accounts associated to a single Battle.net account - you can still log onto each of the accounts separately. Once you first enter your battle.net account in the login screen, you get presented with a list of Warcraft accounts to choose from. Each is treated as a separate login. Just select the appropriate account, enter your password and your authentication code. Note: Under Battle.Net, all the accounts will use a single authenticator.
If you do wish to use a separate authenticator for each account, you will (obviously) need to create separate battle.net accounts for each wow account.
Janaa Oct 12th 2009 5:11PM
Eeek.. when I said "separately" what I meant to emphasise was "at the same time". You can log into each of the accounts separately, simultaneously. :)
Tyeton Oct 12th 2009 3:55PM
Oh...and you can't have more than one authenticator per email address, which in turn means those of use with multiple accounts will have to create multiple email addresses as well as multple battle.net accounts. Fun times :)
