Battle.net accounts required by November 11th
If you haven't merged your World of Warcraft account with a Battle.net account yet, you better do it soon! As a bonus incentive, players who do merge their accounts will receive Oswald the penguin! Those who already have merged their accounts need not worry as they will also get Oswald. Players that were involved with the Wrath beta may remember receiving one of these in the mail except he was known as Mr. Chilly then. I'm sure Oswald will make an excellent companion to Pengu (another penguin pet). Receiving Oswald is going to be a limited time offer. Blizzard hasn't officially announced a date yet, but they do plan on removing the ability to get him at some point.
Of course, not being allowed access into the game might be incentive enough to begin the account merging process!
For additional information, check out the Battle.net account FAQ, Instructions on creating a Battle.net account, a video tutorial on how to convert your account, or just make your account a Battle.net account now (US) (EU).
Note: There is a blue post saying November 12th, and the in-game announcement saying November 11th. If appears that EU players need to convert by the 12th, and NA/US players need to convert by the 11th. But be on the safe side and just convert your account now.

No. You can merge multiple accounts into the same battle.net account. Then at logon screen, you type your email and password, then it will let you choose which Wow account you want to log on to. I've actually done this, and it's seamless.

As I posted above, you can use the same authenticator for each wow account, as they're all tied to a single battle.net account. You don't need separate accounts or separate authenticators.

and you can also share the same authenticator on multiple accounts as well.

hmm, what happens if my WoW account doesn't have the same name as my Bnet account?
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one in that situation.
Amapele Oct 12th 2009 4:47PM
Well that's the whole point, you're merging the two. There's a link in Battlenet that says, "merge with world of warcraft acct", so you'd click that.

Mine have different names and they merged without an issue.
Janaa Oct 12th 2009 5:35PM
Chris - the accounts are naturally going to have different names since one's an account name (wow) and one's an email address (battle.net).
If what you refer to as a bnet account is an old Starcraft or Diablo2 bnet login as opposed to an email address, you're still going to have to create a new battlenet account, to which you then tie your old Starcraft/Diablo2 usernames, as well as your Warcraft account.

Could someone please answer this? I just found out about that however all day I've been trying to login couldn't due to the battle-net merging thing. So I made a battle-net account however my wow account isn't merged to this one! What am I supposed to do? I mean the account can't be lost and secondly shouldn't my account(wow) merge immediately when I created this evening the battle-net account, rather than be lost to god knows where?
Janaa Oct 12th 2009 5:16PM
Just to be sure you know - your WoW account doesn't magically associate with your Battle.net account. You have to click the "Merge by World of Warcraft account" button and enter its details.
Janaa Oct 12th 2009 5:18PM
Just to address something else in your post - "I just found out about that however all day I've been trying to login couldn't due to the battle-net merging thing." The battle.net merge isn't compulsory yet so you should be able to log-in fine. If you haven't merged your account yet, and its saying your password is wrong, perhaps you should contact support and ensure you haven't been hacked.

Odd. I was in the Wrath beta and never got Mr. Chilly.
Dabura Oct 12th 2009 5:01PM
Nor did I......
Nicknin10do Oct 12th 2009 5:18PM
I'm pretty sure that he is saying that you received it DURING the beta, as in, to test it out and play with it.
Janaa Oct 12th 2009 5:24PM
Blizzard should make authenticators compulsory as well. I'm sure they won't in this game because a too large a portion of their player base would balk at having to buy something separate, but I certainly hope Blizzard consider including authenticators in boxed copies of their next MMO.
Bravofox Oct 12th 2009 6:40PM
I believe it would probably be in Blizzards benefit to do this....as the resources they spend on account recovery would drop drastically.
Along with less aggravation for players, seems win-win.

I saw this great suggestion on the forums a few months back, and it would be great if it were implemented: bundle a authenticator with Cataclysm when it's released. It would avoid the people complaining about having to buy extras, and would make them available to the majority of players.
Achnos Dec 1st 2009 3:41PM
Its a good idea, but what about all of thoose who allready bought an authenticator? More QQ'ing from them....
Auto Oct 12th 2009 5:25PM
Nick is correct. And only if you were a Beta invite from the beginning. I was given an invite from a very good friend who runs a WoW related site. I got Chilly. I know others who got in through the Opt in and didnt get Chilly.
You did not get to keep him in live.
Jonny Oct 12th 2009 7:11PM
Damn. That explains it. I was part of the opt-in waves.
