EU Battle.net problems

This is really bad timing for this to be happening, as it was just announced yesterday that on November 11th in the US and November 12th in the EU all accounts will have to be converted to Battle.net accounts. Many people are concerned that these problems will persist through the conversion, although it's important to remember that these issues have existed before Battle.net came about as well.
There has not been any official word from Blizzard on today's EU problems, but that hopefully be coming along shortly -- along with an idea of when it all will be fixed.

I'm not sure it is limited to the EU.
While I can get online just fine, I have 2 Zhevra mounts just waiting to be mailed out.
However, everytime I access battle.net and then account management, Choose my server, I get such a wonderful and self explantory message which reads...
An error has occured.
That's it. Nothing else.
Anyway, I'll give it till tomorrow, But I was curious if anyone else in the NA servers have any problems like this.

This just gave all the people complaining about the battle.net conversion more fuel for their QQ fire.
Come on people! You get a free penguin! Who doesn't love penguins? I think they are awesome...well there was that one day they got together with the murlocs and...well let's just not talk about what happened.

I just logged on with my Battle.net, no problems
Alanid Oct 13th 2009 4:52PM
yeah seems to be ok now
pyratus Oct 13th 2009 5:42PM
This post came very, very late into the problem. Actually, by the time I had logged on. It was down for at least 2 hours prior to it being reported on here.
Alanid Oct 13th 2009 4:05PM
Good to know that it wasn't just me and my crappy internet connection.

I seem to have that problem on an off. Ive been able to log in at mornings and during the day but not in the evenings. I converted my account months ago.

I finally got online!
This happened right after I upgraded to a battlenet account, thought it had something to do with the maintainance on the site or something
ZakuraX Oct 13th 2009 4:10PM
I know someone with the same problem without having a battlenet account, that is why I figured it did not have anything to do with that

You would figure it would be more stable by converting, not the other way around. With WoW being the only game on the platform at the moment, what's the rush to bring everyone over? They really need to point out the benefits, and not just "you get an ingame pet!"
I converted months ago, and right when they announce a deadline for everyone it goes shit. Nice timing, epic fail, and such. If they can't even take a rush of conversions now how will they manage things like expansion upgrades when Cataclysm cometh?
oisteink Oct 13th 2009 4:08PM
They seem to have fixed it

The rush, I would assume, is that the SC2 beta will most likely to be released soon, which introduces a LOT of new features to battle.net. They wouldn't bd forcing this for no good reason.

"If they can't even take a rush of conversions now how will they manage things like expansion upgrades when Cataclysm cometh? "
The "Cataclysm upgrade" doesn't require 7 million new accounts to suddenly be created in the space of 24 hours. I don't see how you could possibly tie the two together. In fact, Cataclysm doesn't relate to the battle.net login servers at all.
For your info, there's no webhost in the world which can withstand a sudden massive influx of users. They can make preparations - sure, but it doesn't always cover the "real thing". Google "DDOS" and "Slashdotted" to learn more.
Realise this - say on an average day, Battle.net servers use 5 jigabits (this term is made up for illustrative purposes). If everyone converts to Battle.net, then the average daily usage goes up to 10 jigabits. So, Blizzard purchases additional bandwidth and has the data centre operator lay additional cabling to cope with 10-15 jigabits. However, if 7 million people all tax the servers with new account creation and merging (as opposed to mere logins) in one 24 hour period, peaking at 50 jigabits, is it fiscially viable or even wise for Blizzard to have additional cabling and bandwidth for a couple of days? No. The problem will solve itself as people get their accounts created and go back to just regular login usage.

It was an issue with the log in servers
Wilder Oct 13th 2009 4:12PM
This is happening on US accounts too cause both mine and my brother's accounts are having the same issues. Hopefully they'll get it fixed soon.
Gamer am I Oct 13th 2009 4:13PM
I was just able to log in without issue on a US account, so if this is affect US accounts as well, it isn't universal.
JLocke Oct 13th 2009 4:16PM
It's begun
wiglet Oct 13th 2009 4:20PM
Tbh, i don't want a penguin pet, i want stable servers that i can log in to.
This Battle.Net saga has been going on for months for those of us that decided to merge months ago. Looks like this time it was down to everyone deciding "OMG A FREE PET! GIEF BATTLENET NOW!
On the plus side the more people with B.Net the more people to storm the Tech Support forum when it goes belly up again!
