MMO Roundup: Last week on Massively
Sometimes you'd like to know that there are other MMOs out there, right? Our sister site Massively can provide you with everything you need to know about all those other shiny MMOs! Check out this roundup of the latest news from the wider MMO world.
| MMOGs rated in Australia. Warcraft a bit late, no sign of Conan, Warhammer Back at the end of January, after we spent months investigating, talking to the Australian Classification Board, and both State and Federal Australian Attorneys General offices, it became clear that an apparent discrepancy in Australian games ratings was no discrepancy. |

| Exclusive interview with Aion Producer Brian Knox We submitted a few questions to NCsoft back when players were taking their first baby steps into the strange and lush world of Atreia. Things have obviously been a bit hectic these past couple weeks but Aion Producer Brian Knox took some time out today to answer them for us. Thanks Brian! |

| Choose my Adventure: Dungeons and Dragons Online Last week we ended our Lord of the Rings Online edition of Choose my Adventure with the retirement of Gibbi the Hobbit in his very own hobbit hole. This week, the votes have been counted and it appears that Dungeons and Dragons Online will be the next game in which I'll spend the next two months. |

| The top five Guild Wars features we take for granted Guild Wars was my introduction into MMO gaming. My husband heard of it on a podcast and decided to check it out. I got curious, asked him if I could try it, and never looked back. My outgoing, chatty personality combined with my love of computer games made MMO gaming an irresistible new world to explore. With all the recent (long-awaited) news of Guild Wars 2, this seemed like a great time to take a look back at some of the features of Guild Wars that are rarely found in other games of its type. |
| "Planetside Next" not official game title, despite rumors An interesting note is that readers immediately picked up on his use of "Planetside Next", and it's quickly become termed the official name. We spoke to SOE and confirmed that this is an internal working title, not the official one, so we may be hearing about a new title in the future. |
|
| Star Trek Online interview answers questions of combat, grouping, launch, and more Cryptic's Star Trek Online has been releasing information on a daily basis and answering many player questions, but fans looking forward to launch are eager for more. Star Trek Online's executive producer Craig Zinkievich talked with Eurogamer today, and offered answers. |
|
| DUST 514 trailer released EVE Online creators CCP Games made quite a stir when they announced the console title DUST 514 in August. It's one of the more ambitious game concepts we've heard about in quite a while. A ground based console MMO that ties in with EVE Online? Two separate games, one setting and one community? (The game's tagline is "ONE UNIVERSE // ONE WAR".) |
|
| MMO Family: 17 internet safety tactics for gaming families "Be careful, there's nasty stuff out there on the internet." It's frustrating to hear this warning clarioned over and over again. We're gamers ourselves, after all. We know easily children can get in over their heads on the internet. "Be careful," intone the experts. "Watch carefully, and be very, very careful ..." But how? |
|
| EVE Evolved: Running your own corporation The term "corporation" in EVE Online is something of a misnomer. While a corp can be run as a full-on business entity, most are just like guilds or clans in other MMOs. It's a group of pilots that join together under one banner for mutual benefit, organised operations or even just to have some nice people to chat to while you mine. For those that can't find a good player-run corporation that's compatible with their aims and goals, there are a few options. |
|
| Redefining MMOs: A final thought In early summer of this year, I had the idea to get the whole Massively team together to write their take on a particular topic. This is something I want us to do again through other topics, but I figured that something about the evolving direction of MMOs would be an ideal start. So we put our heads together and came up with some great subtopics. |
|
| A first look at the Love alpha Ever since I first heard about Love at GDC, I've been hoping to get a chance to check it out. The graphical style floats somewhere between impressionist and Abstract, with only the suggestions of people and things. Gone are the "customize your character heavily" moments of an MMO. You simply log in and your character is immediately created - an amorphous entity ready to take part in all that Love has to offer. If you like to explore, Love has that. If you want to help build a mighty settlement, you can do that too. Alternately, if you want to run around blowing NPCs (and their settlements) off the map, that's also an option. |

I thought GW2 was dead.. good luck with that.. GW was horrible.

I never played the original GW, but I might pick up GW2 when it comes out, especially since it still won't be subscription based. It looks interesting enough, plus they have gnome-esque characters so that is a win.

The husband and I got Aion over the weekend and I LOVE it! It's very nice to look at to say the least. So far we have a few level 10s to try and decide which class we'll stick to, but the sad thing is there seems to be no 'Creature Taming' class :( I've been a Creature Handler, Beast Master, Ranger whatever in every MMO i've played. I know the Mages get little elemental pet things..but..eh..that falls into Warlock category in my opinion. So really that's the only fault i see with the game, but then my highest level IS only 11. I have yet to see instance, pvp and raid content.
If only warcraft would upgrade their graphics and character customization to this level. After playing WoW for 3 or so years you just get tired of looking like everyone else in the game ~_~

Creature Handler? SWG represent! I was a Master Squad Leader!
I hear Aion's goldspam is terrible. :(

Please, make more WoW topics on Massively (not ones that redirect here). I do enjoy watching the haters that troll all day long about WoW, it's the only reason I read that site :(

Maybe they should make more Massively posts on WoW Insider, so we can see the reverse. The people who comment on the "Last week on Massively" topics tend to be very civil and respectful of other MMOs out there though. :D
