Sneak peek at Tokyopop's Death Knight manga

Intended to give insight into the different World of Warcraft classes, the Death Knight manga is the first of a series of class-focused full-length stories. Rocio Zucchi is a 22-year old Argentinian female manga artist, and her work on this book is simply sensational, if the first pages are any indication. Jolley employs a lot of flashbacks in the preview, and Zucci handles the storytelling transitions deftly. The book hits the shelves on December 1, 2009, and if you enjoyed Tokyopop's take on the World of Warcraft universe, Death Knight looks to be an equally entertaining read.

How long ago did they announce this comic?
Anyways, looks horrifyingly epic. Like a Burton movie!

/agree with everything this guy said, specially the third sentence, if you know what I mean ;) *
Back on topic: This Tokyopop's comics are, in my opinion, much better than the regular Wildstorm World of Warcraft comics. The orcs in those are sooo ridiculously muscular to the point that they have no necks, and their heads are smaller than their fists (no pun intended). The art in the Wildstorm series is just... meh.
And let's not forget the excesive mary-sue'ism of it's characters (recently introducing Med'an! The Half-Orc-Draenei-Human Mage-Shaman-Paladin predestined to be the savior of Azeroth!).
On the other hand, Warcraft Legends presented the stories of not-so-well-known heroes. The common andventurers like you and me (in-game, not IRL) that play their little role on the greater scheme of the world (of Azeroth).
Like the art so far, too bad it's not in color :'(
Eagerly waiting on the Paladin and Shaman series ^ยท^

For those who are interested, the artist does have an account on Deviantart: http://dewnoir.deviantart.com/

I both thank you and hate you for that link. I watch too many people as it is. I just looked through 70+ pictures from people I watch yesterday and I've already got another 10.
Oh well, I'm looking forward to this and future editions of the class series. I'm interested to see who they pick to represent the other classes. Fingers crossed on Mathias Shaw for the Rogue book.

Oh wow - thank you for that link. Her artwork is FANTASTIC. I mean even the pencils and lineart are really good.

Wow - the art from the scan above and the others Tokyopop has up looks really really good. I'm looking forward to it!

Oh man, that looks gory, reminds me of berserk, battle angel alita and some demon/horror manga. Maybe they'll have a lich who likes flan.
ash Oct 14th 2009 8:51PM
Arthas looks a little too fem/bishonen in some of those frames, though.

The day I see Thassarian slaughtering legions of demons with naught but a large tooth will be a happy day indeed.

If you're not from Japan, you're not a manga artist.

Manga is a style of comic book, characterized by its theme as well as artistic style (especially in framing and dialog). It is by no means restricted to Japanese. Unless you meant that as a joke, in which case I think your sense of humor is just about as bad as mine.

And if you're not from Italy you can't make pizza
And if you're not from America you can't play Jazz
And if you're not Chinese you can't make fireworks
Oh wait, yes you can. Just like a non-Japanese person can make Manga.
Idiot

If you're not Chinese, you can't be a gold farmer.
Or that's what I think. Everybody refers to goldfarmers as chinese :S

I have a question about facial features in this manga. Are they scars or wrinkles?
Tolkfan Oct 14th 2009 10:44PM
This is even worse than the Wildstorm comics... I have trouble telling the men and women apart :/ I want comics about Warcraft to have Warcraft art, DAMMIT! Like this:
http://sonsofthestorm.com/viewer.php?artist=samwise&cat=warcraft&art=130
http://sonsofthestorm.com/viewer.php?artist=samwise&cat=warcraft&art=38
http://sonsofthestorm.com/viewer.php?artist=raneman&cat=warcraft&art=61
I know all the kiddies now like everything associated with Japan, but give me a break... those kind of skinny looks are only good for belfs and nelfs :/
Falcon6 Oct 14th 2009 11:37PM
It's all about preferences. I personally like the art style.

I have always suspected Cthun and Yoggy had a thing for japanese girls in sailor and school outfits!
DeathwishXIII Oct 14th 2009 11:37PM
Pretty gory. Course, that's how the game should be. Warcraft's grim universe and WoW's style never really mixed..
But this ain't the place for such a discussion.
I'll probably be picking this up, anyhow.
