BoA transfers between factions aimed for patch 3.3

Blizzard is aiming to allow Bind on Account (BoA) items to transfer between factions in patch 3.3. This means your characters on the opposite faction, on the same account, can receive BoA items either through the mail or some other mechanism.
Huge news for those leveling alts, and a nice feature for those that have high level characters on both factions with BoA gear. My level 80 Horde hunter will gladly send some BoA items to the last of my Alliance toons waiting to be leveled up.
We need to note, and read this very carefully, this change is only hopefully going to make it into patch 3.3. If it's not, do not go cry to Zarhym or Ghostcrawler or your mom that the change didn't make it in -- they are not promising, only letting us know that it's something they'd like to have for us in this upcoming content patch.
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to the Arthas. But my mom told me they would put it in this patch for sure. She'd never lie to me

Yeah!

I'm sorry to tell you this, but she already has. Sarakin, I am you father.

Just a guess but I'd imagine this is dependent on the roll out of new battle.net functionality. I envision the battle.net functionality opening a lot of possibilities, some of which we've already heard about like cross-server LFG.

That would rock. I have a lvl 80 Alliance main, but want to try out the Horde. But I really don't want to lvl so slowly from 1-80 so the +XP BoA items would be very nice :)

but will it be transferred between different realms? there is no real use of this if someone has already picked side on a realm since he or she would have leveled his alts in same faction anyways. please tell me its transferrable to other faction in other realm!

Wishing for this, but I doubt we'll get that kind of feature for a while, if ever.
I can't see how it could be implemented easily.

battle.net makes cross-realm mail at least a possibility
Narshe Oct 17th 2009 1:00AM
Its being worked on at least, as pointed out by Zarhym in the same thread, found here

Maybe even mailed between multiple accounts you own that are on the same Battle.net account.
I know he points out theyre not guaranteeing it, but this same feature has been requested for last year and this is the first time (that ive seen) that a blue says they actually want to implement. The past shows this means its heading our way, even if it takes until Cataclysm to get here.

AHH!! I knew this would happen soon!
Im so excited to be able to play both factions without restrictions

Fingers crossed that this is just the beginning. I'd love to be able to transfer items from one of my WoW accounts to the other, so long as they're listed under the same Battlenet name. I play both factions on multiple servers over two accounts, and I would love for my heirloom items to be easily moved from place to place.
If this makes it into 3.3 it will be an excellent start, and I can definitely wait patiently for other developments.

easy, they'd likely implimente it as such:
to: mirilene@gorefiend or gorefiend.mirilene or something.
Lots of games have cross server chat capabilities.
They do have cross server instancing on the roadmap for 3.3. Or at least did in august. This probably relates to it in some way.

And also, old Battle.net had the ability to do so. I had all kinds of friends who played WCIII and SC while I played Diablo II and we could talk no problem.

While this will be a great feature to have, I do wish Blizzard wouldn't announce that they're going to do things until they're sure that it's going to happen soon, not Soon(TM). There would be far, far less QQing and/or general bitching about Blizz being lazy and so forth if they didn't announce stuff so far in advance.
I just remember seeing people complain about the lack of new druid forms for a long time (felt like years, I'm sure it was less), acting like that was the only thing on Blizzard's list of things to do and the devs were hopelessly lazy for taking so long. It got really annoying seeing people bringing that up whenever *anything* else was announced as coming soon.
...and yes, I'm aware that I'm complaining about complainers. I'll stop now.
Guapa Oct 19th 2009 12:08PM
well, if they didn't announce it some time in advance, people who recently leveled chars of the opposite faction would qq about "had I only known this earlier..."
just a quick complaint about complainers who complain about complaints...
Kind regards,

i was waiting this for a very long time... God bless Zarhym =)

Yeah, I'd be interested if it was cross server - heck, cross server more than faction difference - I know they are planning on allow cross server friends, so hopefully it will make it. SWG implemented cross-server chat and it was amazingly useful - hopefully blizz takes it to the next level and allows you to send BoA stuff cross server, not just cross faction - on that same note though - it would be nice to send cross b.net account, rather than just cross faction - I have multiple merged accounts, and I'd like to level up some of the characters that are on those accounts, but don't want to have to get the stuff, transfer a toon to a different account, offload the stuff, wait, then transfer it back across account.

WTB realm transfer to go with it.
Sounds like a great place to implement micropayments: I'd happily pay $5 to get Heirloom items from my Alliance main on one server to a Horde alt on another.
Pete Oct 16th 2009 8:24PM
$5? You should have to pay with honor points. After all you're blatently supporting the "enemy".
Tremelizzer Oct 16th 2009 8:43PM
I would not be happy. I don't have money :P
