I actually always go to Darnassus. The lag in Stormwind and IF on my server is ridiculous, but Darnassus is pretty empty. It's a short distance from the portal to the AH, and there's a mailbox just outside the AH.
I suppose if I were using a lowbie bank alt I would be annoyed by the distance between the bank and the AH, but on my main, mounted, it doesn't bother me. *shrug*
