I just posted a little while back that
the Darkmoon Faire needed a change, but apparently there's still some benefit to be had over there -- Valdesta of WoWGrrl has
found at least one way to keep the Faire interesting. She's been keeping a character over there, apparently, and periodically checking in on what the vendors have. They sell not only little pets and miscellaneous items like the
Heavy Leather Ball (which often sell for a tidy profit on the AH, since people aren't always aware that the Faire vendors sell them), but there are also vendors there who sell profession items like herbs, motes, eternals, leathers, and so on.
And as anyone who's ever levelled a profession knows, those are often worth their weight in gold, not just on the AH, but in terms of
leveling up your own alt professions as well. As Valdesta says, it's worth camping an alt over there just to check in during raiding downtime or on a flight path with your other character, for the same reason you should always check and see just what other vendors around the world might have for sale -- sure, you won't make much with just one buy, but over time, picking up cheap crafting mats from the DF can lead to some
solid profits on the AH.

And, now that you've posted this "everyone" wil do it and crash the market. Thanks...

Everyone that reads this article... That's not the entire wow community. There's still a market.
Aceman67 Oct 16th 2009 3:34PM
I agree, THOUSANDS of people read wow.com daily (sometimes hourly), the amount of responses to the contests that require comment posting should be evidence of that.

I do this a lot i also buy the tree frogs that only spawn like every 30 min off the little orc kid and make quick a few gold (30-65g) each. Not bad profit for something only costing a gold

The Darkmoon Faire is the best thing in the game for us scribes. I got 15k gold en 3 days selling noble decks.. I also put up the repeated cards on the AH and got 1k for each nobles card.. so how come nobody sees this? I'm almost the only one selling decks in my server and it's almost a perfect monopoly.. right now I'm selling another nobles deck for 5.8k gold and u bet it's gonna sell.. It's also true you can buy cool items from the npc's, those leathers and herbs are always cool to get just like that. I'm eagerly waiting for the next Faire, then the deck prices skyrocket and everyone goes crazy looking for cards. It's awesome :D

what i wanna know is how in the world you come across so many nobles.
i must be doing it wrong.
MazokuRanma Oct 16th 2009 4:14PM
You can't plan to make a Nobles deck if you're a scribe. At best, you have a 1 in 4 chance each time you make a Darkmoon Faire card to get a Nobles card. If you're hoping for a specific card, you have a 1 in 32 chance to receive it.
These aren't the worst odds in the game, but they're not fantastic either. Just because other people on your server aren't selling Nobles decks, it doesn't mean they don't want to. They may just be getting failed by the RNG.

Curious, how much did you spend? In other words what's your ROI, Return on Investment? I often thought about this but wasn't sure with the high cost of herbs on my server.
slyman.is.god Oct 16th 2009 4:27PM
well, I farm 800 hearbs each time, if I'm lucky, that makes 6-8 darkmoon cards. I don't know if I've been very lucky, but I get one or two nobles cards each time. I've gotten even more sometimes.. four in a row or so. I go out, farm, make vellums, sell 'em, get snowfall inks and make cards. If a deck is completed, I win doble :D and of course, undeath deck sell pretty darn well too. I never thought becoming a scribe would earn me this much gold.

I have never visited the DF, so do you have to gain rep with them to buy items or buy them at a discount?
Wellsee Oct 16th 2009 3:39PM
Wait... you can be flying with one character, logout and login with a different char, and the first character keeps flying? I've closed the game while flying before and seem to end up at the last flight master I passed before closing, but I've never tried logging on with a different toon.
kabshiel Oct 16th 2009 3:59PM
If you log out while on a flight path, when you log back in you'll be at the same spot on the flightpath. You don't keep moving after you've logged out, barring some lag.
MazokuRanma Oct 16th 2009 4:17PM
If you crash your game with Alt+F4 (Windows only, I assume this doesn't work with Macs. I suppose the key combo might work with a Windows emulator in Linux though) then your character will continue flying until he/she reaches the next Flight Path on the current route.
That's the farthest you'll get though. This can be handy if you click the wrong FP and want to get off early. Way back when if you did this your character would just keep flying until they reached their destination, so you could use the method to switch toons if you wanted on a long FP. It no longer works that way though.

Do the darkmoon cards really continue to sell well? Last month, I had most of mine expire--and they were priced above competition. I figured that it was because the Triumph badge trinkets were superior, so people didn't want to invest in the darkmoon trinkets.
Misha Oct 16th 2009 5:12PM
Oops. typo...*weren't priced above competition. Wish there was an edit button.

I really have a personal vendetta against the "Heavy Leather Ball." I got hacked once when I first started playing and found everything in my bags were gone and replaced with a Heavy Leather Ball.

Remember before achievements, endless reputation grinds, and everything in the game being attached to some feasible award that the Darkmoon Faire was enjoyed because it was... stay with me now... fun? Man. The World of Warcraft was -Craaaazy- back in those days.

Shhhhhhhh, stop giving away all my gold-earning secrets!
Camping the Darkmoon vendors was how I financed my first 19 twink, back when she was my only character on that faction of that server (i.e., nobody else to fund her with).
Scotter Oct 17th 2009 2:30AM
Yeah, too bad our big secrets are out. :) I have camped the DF vendors lots of times, really helped when I was leveling tradeskills as well as for making lots of gold reselling stuff on the AH. I recently rolled a new character on an unfamiliar server. To help finance the lowbie I created a death knight, and had about 25g leaving the DK starting zone. Spent about 15g on herbs at the Darkmoon Faire and turned that into about 250g+ in the AH. Old Azeroth herbs that the vendor sells for a few silver (and the occasional 8g Frost Lotus :) ) can be resold for quite a lot more on most servers.
