Breakfast Topic: Real life Character Re-Customization

It's character re-customization in real life. Or paid name change. Except I didn't actually have to fork $10 to get it done. We re-customize ourselves all the time, changing clothes more often (hopefully, anyway!) than our characters upgrade their gear. Some changes are more drastic -- losing or gaining weight, shaving our heads (it worked for Justin Timberlake), or even changing jobs or moving house. It's all part of how we continue to re-customize our lives.
If we could re-customize ourselves as easily as we could the way we change our characters, what would you change and why? Or maybe you've just gone through a makeover recently -- from a haircut to the whole shebang -- tell us about it on this drab weekend morning. Now if only we could get real life Gold just as easily...

I'd totally change into a gnome.
...What? Stop look at me like that!
Delerowen Oct 17th 2009 8:19AM
I recently moved to Maryland all the way from Texas about a month and a half ago.
Valris Oct 17th 2009 8:27AM
Is it normal in US to change your name like that? Or are you just a bit weird?
Chris M Oct 17th 2009 8:30AM
He's just a bit weird. Most of us have the same name for the vast majority of our lives, marriage and divorce notwithstanding.
mitchd915 Oct 17th 2009 9:22AM
He lives in the Phillipines, although I'm not sure if it's done often over there, either.

I don't think he was literally changing his name via the legal system, I think he just meant he changed it by what he wanted people to call him.
macster Oct 17th 2009 8:27AM
What does this have to do with WoW?
Eternauta Oct 17th 2009 12:58PM
"Breakfast Topic" says anything to you?
Rudzy Oct 17th 2009 8:28AM
I'd go get a haircut and make my hair longer than it was before.
Dalno Oct 17th 2009 8:49AM
Off-Topic but does anyone know what time the Podcast starts in the UK? Is it 5pm?
Atsuko Oct 17th 2009 2:01PM
About 830 PM I think.

Not to go into specifics ... let me just say, "Gravity is no woman's friend." That's what I'd fix.
Xandari Oct 17th 2009 9:12AM
The most dramatic for me isn't really that much; one time I got my hair cut from nearly waist-length to shoulder-length. And when I started college, I went from being addressed by my nickname to my given name (the nickname being derived from the given).
Though I admit, I'd 'recustomize' this post-high school weight I've put on.

This article gives credit to my theory that Zach is actually part of the witness protection program here posing as a columnist.
Jhestor Oct 17th 2009 9:43AM
I really enjoy your articles, Zach, so don't take this as a random flame. It's more of a curious observation....
... you really seem to have some identity issues?
Either that or you really liked embezzling money :O
Daniel Oct 17th 2009 9:58AM
When one is a chameleon changing one's identity just is your identity.
Tzivya Oct 17th 2009 9:47AM
I changed my gender and name, and it was the best thing I ever did for myself, even through all the hatred and bigotry it has bought me just for existing.
Jhestor Oct 17th 2009 10:04AM
Kudos for having the bravery to do what you knew was right, though.
Kia Oct 17th 2009 9:04PM
Major props to you! Also major props to the WoW.com community for not only voting this up, but not bringing out the sorts of comments I would have expected.
Glaistig Oct 17th 2009 5:41PM
I was wondering if there would be any trans gamers willing to pipe up. Right on!
