The OverAchiever: Guide to Hallow's End achievements

It always starts the same. You stand in the graveyard of the Scarlet Monastery. You take a candle and carefully place it upon the Hallow's End altar.
"Horseman rise," you say, "your time is nigh. You felt death once. Now, know demise!"
He rises from the distance -- a little to your right, actually, as you face the tomb. The cackling voice and flaming horse make it clear the Horseman has risen again. "It is over, your search is done!" he warns. "Let fate choose now, the righteous one!"
While this well-known and titular fight against the Headless Horseman is probably the most recognizable portion of Hallow's End activities, it's far from the only one. Let's take a look behind the cut at what you need to do to become "The Hallowed."
Trick or Treat
This is relatively easy. All you need to do is visit one of the many inns across Azeroth or Outland. These are the same inns where you set your Hearthstone, so that you can build rest XP during downtime. You simply talk to the innkeep, choose "Trick or Treat!" and get a prize.
Now, granted, you won't get a handful of candy every time. You get a debuff which keeps you from Trick or Treating more than once an hour, and you'll need to let that fade. But this Trick or Treat dynamic is going to be pretty important -- you'll want to collect magic wands during the duration of the event.
Out With It
As you collect candy, there becomes an obvious and inevitable activity to be done with it all. That is to say, as any good 6 year old will tell you, stuff as much as possible in your happy little face, all at once, until you become absolutely sick to your stomach.
The six year old was right, and this achievement proves it. Once you've successfully gathered enough candy, eat it all at once. When your character pukes up all that sugary goodness due to an Upset Tummy, the Out With It achievement is granted.
Bring Me The Head of ... Oh Wait.
This is probably my favorite achievement title of all time. To obtain Bring Me The Head of... Oh Wait, you need to go to the Scarlet Monastery and enter the Graveyard. About halfway through, you'll see a small altar and pumpkin. Interact with the objects there in order to summon the Headless Horseman. The Headless Horseman will appear. Kill him to receive the achievement.
The Headless Horseman fight isn't the most difficult thing ever, although we can't guarantee his loot table has been updated yet. He's basically a tank and spank. Every so often, his head will fly off his body. Kill the head. Then, when the head and body rejoin, kill the body. Repeat until he's dead. The head can be a little difficult to target, though, which probably is the most difficult part of the fight.
Edit: We now know his loot table - you can find information about it in this post.
The Savior of Hallow's End
Every hour, the Headless Horseman will attack one of your faction's starting zones. You get quests from the Orphan Matrons, who beg you to stop him. In order to complete the quest, your goal is to put out the fires -- not to actually kill the Horseman. You'll have an easier time of it if your faction mates lend a hand, so it's best to get this achievement done early, when everyone else is also trying to get it done.
That Sparking Smile
If you dutifully trick or treat every hour, you will eventually be granted a toothpick. In order to get this achievement, use the toothpick. Voila, finished.
Rotten Hallow
Rotten Hallow is a little more difficult, but not amazingly so. It's a little different depending on whether you're Horde or Alliance. You've got to go to the Hillsbrad Foothills, and complete either the Horde or Alliance seasonal quests there. It all revolves around stink bombs (or fresh pine air fresheners), and whether or not the Horde get to burn a wicker man.
G.N.E.R.D. Rage
I've heard more complaints about G.N.E.R.D. Rage than any other Hallow's End achievement. It mostly revolves around whether you're comfortable hanging out in the battlegrounds for long periods of time. Essentially, one of the types of candies you'll receive in the trick or treat spree are G.N.E.R.D.s. While sporting the buff from this candy, your task will be to kill 50 players of the opposing factions. It's easiest to do this in the BGs, where you can kind of hang back and let the HKs flow in.
Check Your Head
Weighted Jack-o'-Lanterns drop from the Headless Horseman, which means killing him regularly will make your life easier. The good news is that since we're all hanging out in Dalaran nowadays, it'll be easy to scout out all the folks you need.
The Masquerade
The ultimate point of Hallow's End is to dress up in costumes. The various wands that let you take on costumes are a gift from trick or treating. You'll need to find other folks who have already gotten their wands, and ask them to hit you with their wands. Once you've gotten all the costumes listed, you're granted The Masquerade achievement.
Sinister Calling
This is the most difficult Hallow's End achievement, since both the Sinister Squashling and the Hallowed Helm drop from the Horseman. You'll have to kill him often enough to have the items drop and win the roll to get the items.
Tricks and Treats of Azeroth
Easy! Simply hit all the inns included in the sub-achievements. This'll supply you most of the items you need in order to get the other achievements, and might get you a bit closer to Explorer along the way.
Summary
Ultimately, the Hallow's End achievements can be alot of work. While they aren't individually too much trouble, they all add up to a couple busy weeks for you. But if you keep it up, you'll utimately become The Hallowed.

I just need the helm and pet for my protodrake. RNG, please be good to me this year!

People dreading GNERD Rage should head to WintersGrasp, just hang around and you'll get more than enough kills.
Qwerty Oct 18th 2009 6:36AM
I wish people would stop recommending that people should enter BG's and just "hang around" to get the achievement. If your going to join a wintergrasp why not make yourself useful and try to help your team win instead of being a lazy turd.

I can certainly understand that, but I think the fault lies with Blizzard on this one. Many of us have none, zero, nada interest in pvp. The ONLY reason we're entering the BGs is to complete these achievements, and we want them done as quickly and painlessly as possible.
I do feel bad for those who actually enjoy pvp during these weeks, but it was just plain stupid of Blizzard to force us pvp-haters on you.

Is the squashling a random world drop as well? I got mine last year on an alt I was leveling killing some random mob in Hellfire Peninsula.

For claiming to be an overachiever, this guide falls pretty short. For anyone else who wants more than just "Here's the name of the achievement, and here is the description," check out the Wowhead guide: http://www.wowhead.com/?blog=125169

I was thinking this my own self. Pretty lackluster "guide".

is it me or are the masks dropping at a obscenely slow rate? I completed the achievement to get to all the inn's of Azeroth and outlands hit all the candy barrels and innkeepers and I only got 1 mask... Wassupwitdat?

Both the Hallowed Helmet and the Sinister Squashling can be acquired through trick-or-treating.

I've received the achievement "Bring Me The Head of ... Oh Wait." on my lvl 62 hunter. She was not able to summon him, but being in a group with guildies I was able to get the achievement just by being there when they killed the Headless Horseman. This fight is so easy, even with 3 80's that it doesn't matter if you bring your alts along. Enjoy!

I got the headless horseman quest on my 72 Paladin, haven't tried to summon him with it but I can get the initial lead in quest.
Also it appears you may need to do the Wrathgate quest line to crash the wickerman festival. I had a guildy try for 20 minutes to find the guys buy all she saw was empty stumps and grass.
Murdock Oct 19th 2009 11:13AM
Given that I can do the Wickerman quest on my level 50 toon Wrathgate is not a requirement.
Why would you associate the two? One is outside Undercity, the other is in Dragonblight.
Was she in the right area? All it takes is riding by the dude on the West side of UC.
Deadly. Off. Topic. Oct 19th 2009 12:16PM
It's possible she hadn't finished that Wrathgate which was why she had to do it.
heroman12121 Oct 19th 2009 10:13AM
I was very close to getting the achievement (G.N.E.R.D. Rage, Trick or Treats of Outland, one from Kalimdor, Sinister Calling.) And my time ran out, i tried my best to get as close as i can, but the game kicked me out when i was close to Bloodmyst. Sigh. I dont think ill get Hollowed this year. On the brightside, I got the horse :D
Murdock Oct 19th 2009 12:30PM
You mean your time card, or what do you mean? The even lasts for 2 more weeks so you should have more chances.
terph Oct 20th 2009 2:02AM
You can also get the helm from the pumpkin you smash after the fire event. Haven't seen the squashling drop from it but I'd assume it's also a possibility.
Bloomindraal Oct 19th 2009 10:26PM
Anyone notice the change to the broom this year. It has a cast time, but am I right in that it seems the mount is permanent (though not in your mount collection) and only summonable during the holiday period ?
sargoth Oct 20th 2009 6:16AM
The easiest way to get G.N.E.R.D. rage is to pop a handful of candy, and do a Wintergrasp battle. Getting 50 honorable kills in WG isn't difficult at all.
RedGuard Oct 20th 2009 9:41AM
Is possible to get the meta-achievement if you are only able to trick or treat a couple times a day?
