Breakfast Topic: Hello, Headless Horseman
As the Horseman once again appears without his head attached to his body, we'd be remiss not to talk for a bit about this creepy cranially challenged boss. Pugs upon pugs will form offering nothing more than member's souls in return for the coveted mount. Those that get it will dart about showing off their satanic spirit, while those without it will look on enviously.
Of course the mount isn't the only thing to be had -- there are plenty of other goodies dropped by the scourge of Sleepy Hollow. I'm going to be running some alts through and pick up the Ring of Ghoulish Glee on a few of them. The nice combination of attack power, crit, and hit makes it a solid choice for nearly every beginning level 80 melee DPS.
And while my warrior has been sporting the level 70 helm for three years now, he's going to have to go back and get the updated level 80 one. Gotta' collect them all.
I think this is one of the holidays that the loot from the boss overshadows the achievements and the holiday themselves. Perhaps it's just because this was the first real holiday boss we had that dropped enough special stuff everyone had to farm it as much as possible, or perhaps it's just because the mount is so cool. But nonetheless, the achievements are all there too waiting to be completed.
For more information on the holiday, check out our Over Achiever Guide to the Hallow's End Achievement, and the list of the level 80 Headless Horseman rewards.
How much do you plan on farming the Headless Horseman? Every day on every alt possible? Or just a bit?

His rhymes alone are worth at least one trip to SM.
Eternalmagic Oct 18th 2009 8:08AM
I'll only do this on my main until I get everything from it, it makes no sense to me to pretty much 'ninja' the mount from someone else's main if it drops.

PUGs are so far hard to get together on Stormrage, LOTS of DPS, no Tank or Heals...
Mr. Tastix Oct 18th 2009 8:47AM
Unfortunately, it's like that on many realms.

Thats exaclty why me and my boyfriend rerolled to a tank-healer combination. No more hassle, just type /1. LF3M dps and ready to go in a minute :)

Wish everyone thought that way lol

Well, I got my drake after Brewfest, so the only thing I need is the horse. I will probably farm it every day, but if I don't get it, I won't cry. It's too bad that the holiday becomes dull when you have all the achievements.

It's never dull when all you have to do is get a handful of candy to make 6+ gold. Yay! Epic hard quest! XD

I'm going for the title, so for me I find this Holiday involves more stress than fun. Relying so heavily on the RNG, only being able to trick or treat once every hour....
Yikes! It makes me feel compelled to log in at least once every 60 minutes, and my fingers are crossed every time I trick or treat, or down the horseman.
But I really want that violet drake...
Nihillis_VC_EU Oct 18th 2009 8:47AM
Title and mount for me. More the title. But either way this is by far and large my favorite holiday, on WoW or otherwise!
I love the whole thing from cute masks to digging up evil sprirts, great sense of adventure in this holiday!
Now, time to get that candy and harass a headless man!!!

I got lucky on the first set of summons when the holiday went live i got the helm and squashling. That right there took a lot of stress out of the holiday for me. Out of 5 runs we saw two squashlings so that is a good sign for everyone out there. I think the collecting masks one is going to be my main frustration.
Crylexan Oct 18th 2009 8:56AM
you dont have to collect the masks for the drake anymore, they dropped that last year.
Nihillis_VC_EU Oct 18th 2009 9:02AM
Oh dear god those masks... thank god we're pre Cataclysm!
Bugger grinding 4 more masks for achievement!
shoan Oct 18th 2009 10:01AM
oh I know I just want to 20 points for the masks is all
Serian Oct 18th 2009 8:55AM
Got the helm, mount, title, sword and squashling last year. Methinks it's just upgrades this year - not much for tanking anyway.
devinbrady84 Oct 18th 2009 8:59AM
Have everything but the mount. I have 119 mount atm, so I want it in preparation for the next mount achievement added to the game! Being gone a week during the holiday sucks. :-(
PeeWee Oct 18th 2009 9:03AM
Unless you're after the title, achievement or the mount, and his gear still are upgrades for you... don't bother.
TOC5 is just as easy. It can be farmed untill you drop dead, it's not bound to a daily quest. There are much more drops there for you. People don't have to move out of their way to get there (especially Alliance).
snarkygoldfish Oct 18th 2009 12:24PM
Yeah...we wouldn't want to do something for just the fun of it, now would we....
OmegaHare Oct 18th 2009 9:05AM
Got the mount at level 68 on my paladin last year i belive it was and the only thing i was missing from the acheivement was the pet, which i got midnight last night/this morning.
Has anyone else noticed that the pet drops more frequently this year? in 1 run i saw 3 drop, last year it took 5 days of farming to see just 1 drop
flawless Oct 18th 2009 9:09AM
Random number generator is random.
Never saw it drop last year. Done 11 kills so far this year of the HH and picked up about ten treats from innkeepers. Still not even seen it, let alone won a roll on it.
