The Queue: There's more than one way to skin a worgen
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's (almost) daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky be your host today.
So my thought process Monday morning goes like this. Kubien asks a question about skining worgens. My cat is next to me vying for my attention, and after headbutting me for a few minutes decides to pounce on my arm. Luckily I'm a fatty so all is good and he just bounces off harmlessly to the floor, but it makes me think for a minute about punishing him. Then I remember the old saying, "There's more than one way to skin a cat."
And from cat, to lolcat, to lolwowcats.
I'm sorry Warcraft community, I really am. But what's done is done. Let's just move on and go have some tea and crumpets.
Kubien asked...
"While killing Worgen in Silverpine Forest the other day, it occurred to me I can skin them. When Alliance play Worgen, can I skin them? Please!"
No, you're not going to be able to skin other players. If you can't milk or tan the hide of a tauren, then you're not going to be able to take the skin off a worgen either. Of course this is no official answer to this, but I'd be willing to be all the gold I've got that I'm right.
Hendrata asked...
"Regarding the recent changes in AoE cap, then my question is: why does AOE have to be capped at all? What's the rationale behind it?"
Prior to BC you had no cap on AoE damage. This lead to rather silly things like mages and warlocks taking down entire zones with their AoE spells. I even did a few instances with a very well geared prot pally (a rarity in those days) who would gather up a hundred mobs and the two T3 mages would blast everything down before the priest went out of mana. Not exactly the way the game should be played, so Blizzard implemented the AoE cap in BC. They're just refining it now.
Adroog asked...
"Why can't tabards be turned off like helms and cloaks?"
No official answer on this, but think of necessity. You can't go without a cloak or helm (assuming you don't want to fail at WoW). You can go without a tabard. Also, back in the day cloaks and helms were pretty fugly. Today they're not as bad, but a lot of players are used to seeing their heads and tails no matter what equipment they have on. I wouldn't put it past Blizzard to allow some gear to be visibly "turned off", however. It's a feature other games have, and those usually make their way into WoW eventually.
Furry asked...
"The first fight has two giant Jormungar Worms that tunnel underground and pop back up elsewhere throughout the fight against them. However, before the fifth fight begins, we learn that the ground is hollow and that it can break fairly easily. Where do these worms burrow? Wouldn't they just fall down as soon as they go underground?"
Look for wormsign, you'll be able to tell where they hide. May your knife chip and shatter.
Jane-Marie asked...
"One of my professions is Inscription and I used to make gold out of selling the decks that can be handed in for trinkets at darkmoon faire. However, since the introduction of more gear in ToC and now Onyxia the value of the decks has fallen through the floor. Is there any chance Blizzard will give these decks/trinkets some sort of boost or is inscription now a complete waste of a time?"
Highly unlikely. The devaluing of crafted equipment is just part of the progression of the game. It's unfortunate that such expensive items like the Darkmoon cards are devalued so much, but it happens; and usually right around the time of the third tier of raiding. Remember back to BC, once you got into Mount Hyjal and the Black Temple the level 70 Darkmoon cards were replaced relatively quickly.
With the exception of the damned Dragonspine Trophy. That thing never dropped and would never be replaced by any piece of gear. Period.

So you would rather Blizz made the game simpler with less things to worry about? Why is it with WoW alot of people are opposed to challenge? I don't enjoy levelling alts anymore, not because I've done it so many times (i haven't) or I don't enjoy the zones or quests, it's just so easy.
ZakuraX you sound like you want it this way?

You are confused, Chamual. Simple does not equal less challenges. Simple equals mechanics that allow new expansions and more content faster. I'll pass on the "challenges" of theory crafting and take more content any day. My life is challenging enough with work and family without my video game being a challenge also. Maybe you should take a look at your life, Chamual.

On the walls in ToC, there are 2 horde emblems on the horde side, and 2 alliance emblems on the alliance side, which makes since. But, if you look on the left hand side of the alliance emblem, you will see 12 hash marks on it, like they were counting kills or something along those lines... any idea what these 12 hash marks actually stand for?

Lovely Dune reference, but you didn't answer the question at all. They weren't asking, "How can you tell where they'll pop back up again?" The question was, "Where the heck are they burrowing TO, since the space under the arena is clearly HOLLOW?" I.e., "WTF, are these worms FLYING under the floor?"

Question....I would really love a Tabard tab, like pets and mounts. I usually don't pick Tabards up if I don't have to because they take up precious bank space. It would be great to have a Tabard page, or even a Tabard scroll down like Titles on the Character page.
Make this happen!

... Eah... You don't need to keep them all to get an achievement. It count number of time you've got a tabbard, not how many tabbards you have.

I think the idea of hiding your tabard goes against the very nature of a tabard as was said earlier. You're proudly displaying your allegiance to some faction or group. If you don't want your tabard showing, take it off.
However I would be thrilled to hide my shoulders.
Also, I would enjoy being able to "lift up" my robe from the dressing room thing when looking at new pants or shoes without actually taking off the robe.

I'd love to see that we could turn off shoulder armor. If we talk about fugly gear, plate shoulders take the 2nd place (after helmets). I can't see the the head of my dwarf!
BlackTiger™ Oct 20th 2009 4:41AM
Yes! Yes! Please!
Please, dear Blizzard, allow us to hide awful shoulder armour which we have to wear just because of stats on it!

Or, you know, just fix the scaling of items.
It makes no sense that the same item pattern will be the same completed item size regardless of whether a gnome or human wears it.
BlackTiger™ Oct 20th 2009 4:35AM
Eah... Inscription is really complete waste of time... Most useless profession in WoW. AH full of cheap symbols, trinkets are pretty out-dates... Epic fail.

If you could skin players, then you'd have someone with two accounts powerleveling skinning. Then once it was maxed out you'd have the guy with two accounts who would be repeatedly killing and skinning an 80 Worgen alt and selling the pelts in the AH.
And that's aside from the "ew" factor. Being able to skin another player or be skinned could be a game-breaker for some more sensitive souls.
scraggerly Oct 20th 2009 9:50AM
Have you ever died multiple times in a row and had to wait for a res timer? There is no way that would be faster than AoE nuking down mobs and skinning.

Is there a way Blizzard can keep some files on the server side of things so that they can't be data-mined by people who are on the PTR? For example, the other day you had a post about a Lich King animation that had been data-mined. I avoided that post like the plague (no pun intended), and then I realized I would have to avoid the official forums as well, because undoubtedly some ass would put the spoiler in the title of a post. So again, can Blizzard keep some things like animations or voice sound files on their side of things so people can't data-mine them and risk spoiling things for everyone?

My mage dinged 80 maybe 6 months ago. I am still hated by Sons of Hodir. I started the Hodir quest chain at some point, and then forgot where I left off. I have flown everywhere looking for their quests, and I simply cannot find where to pick it up again.
I don't use quest add-ons, but I feel I must at this point. Is there a mod that can help me find my long lost Sons of Hodir quests?

The one thing I dislike about the championing system is having to wear a tabard. They look alright on my pally, but terrible on my robe-wearing druid and mage. For a while I had an Outfitter outfit just to switch into the the tabard for instances, but found I often neglected to do so, and so resigned myself to wearing it around all the time. But... yuck. They look like the ratty pinnies we had to wear in gym.
As for inscription, it could use a buff in non-glyph items. I know on my server the price of Books of Glyph Mastery plummeted to the point where it was quite easy to get all of them, and the margin on glyphs is therefore correspondingly very thin. Perhaps some high iLevel offhands or Darkmoon cards, similar to what other crafting professions got?

I'd personally like to see any leaks of female worgen. Tired of all these male worgen. Call me a furry all you like, but damn, that halloween mask looked GOOD!
