Are there any plans to shorten the flight paths in Cataclysm? I've taken the scenic routes more than enough and I really don't need to fly around the tournament grounds every day before landing. Flying into Stormwind only to fly right back out gets annoying.

They might change them to new scenic routes, so players can get a good eyeful of all the cataclysm damage the blizz team put so much work into, but this might be more for the low level characters than high level ones.Higher level characters can just fly in Azeroth, and if they do take flight paths, it's usually because they're going AFK on flight, so they wouldn't see it anyway. But there is a good chance they'll change them.

epic flying (in straight lines) is waaaay faster than using FPs. i only use FPs in Kalimdor/EK, never EVER in Outland or Northrend

I had the same question, circling around Dalaran an extra 30 sec is ridiculous. I'd like a "direct flight" if that was at all possible. Does anyone have a record of which flight paths are more efficient if done by FP vs manual flying in a straight line? Some of them aren't too bad but others are too scenic when all you want is to get from A to B. I realize flight paths are there to show the grandeur of the places and showcase all the hard time spent creating it, but it would be nice to have the option.

Consider the way flight paths work as extra incentive to grind for an epic mount. :-)

Why couldn't they just make FP portals, then poof your there...makes more sense to me.

This raises another question - are we still going to have our FP? Or are we going to have to go round the zones collecting them again? Will we even have the same FP?

@kittytrainerIIRC, the devs believe that instant transportation (as implemented in other MMOs) make the world seem smaller, and all sense of epic scale is lost. A certain part of that has been reversed as new continents open up and they give us extra portals to and fro (e.g., the Blasted Lands portal in major cities), but the world would (in the devs' eyes) become a series of zones that have no real relationship to one another. It'd be like in other games, when you just select where you want to go from the level select screen. How is that in any way immersive?

Whilst I'm not normally in favour of speeding things up and rushing them, my efforts at collecting candy from around Kalimdor confused me. I ended up flying to (or was it from?) Nijel's Point in Desolace in completely the wrong direction. I thought that was just stupid and clicked on the wrong flight path, but no, the hippogriffs just take daft routes there.
