'I even did a few instances with a very well geared prot pally (a rarity in those days) who would gather up a hundred mobs and the two T3 mages would blast everything down before the priest went out of mana. Not exactly the way the game should be played, so Blizzard implemented the AoE cap in BC. They're just refining it now.'Exactly why isn't it the way the game should be played? Blizz set challenges for the players (quests, dungeons etc.) and the players come up with ways to beat them. Unless people are using bugs or exploits I don't see anything wrong with any tactic people use to beat the game. It's screams of Blizz QQing that players aren't 'playing the game how Blizz want them to play it'. It seems like Blizz's vision of how the game 'should' be played is more important to them then players coming up with new and unique ways to play (the recent prot paladin in holy gear nerf is another example of this). If Blizz don't want people AOEing everything in site, they should design encounters and mobs where this isn't possible (mobs that don't bunch up, mobs that cast magic shells ala DKs, mobs that interrupt players casting AOE spells - 3 examples it took me 10seconds to think up) rather than impose arbitary caps to the game mechanics.

Well, that would not only take away the aoe dmg, but also single target. Same with the shell, and it would not work with rogue attacks. And if blizzard would ignore anything that would seem overpowered, most people would not play today. It is maybe not the best way that they implented it, but it works. And they don't have to make a lot of spells for the players to handle and think about all the time. Instead we just know that it is a cap, no spells to watch out for. No worries about being interupted and so fort.

Strangely enough - i thought gather everything and AOE em down was how Blizz FORCE us to play nowadays - just look at any heroic. CC is dead, only playing any sort of role in the PVP fight in TOTC 3rd encounter and possibly two trash pulls in ulduar.@ZakuraX i disagree - a AM shield (like DK's) are in many fights, it doesnt stop the damage. It just introduces some slight tactics into the fight (ie Move the mob). Mobs that stay out of the melee and dont group up - mobs that interrupt casters - well cant have mobs that act even semi intelligently then can we - it may make the fight last more than 4 secs.

Do not have anything against doing fights more complicated. But the fact that something overpowered, like AoEing down a whole zone, gets nerfed has nothing with how you want to play your class. If you like being a melee class, you should not be forced to reroll to a mage so your dps is "uber1337lolmegahuge".Adding a lot of spells, for almost all mobs, to stop AoE would almost take away the need completly of AoE. So the cap was a easier way to do it.I agree that the fact that the need for CC is completly gone in heroics kind of sucks. But it takes away the "LF mage and rogue for (put in any lvl70 heroic here)Hunters were not looked upon as true CC, warlocks could use the succubus, but never seen anyone ask for it. Shamans did not have CC. Ret paladins were rare to see in a group. Dps warrior even more so.So something good came out of it as well. But it would be nice if they brough the strategy back to the heroics!
