Patch 3.3 PTR: A little extra XP bonus

The sneaky database over at MMO-Champion has uncovered a little spell/aura/attribute hidden in the patch 3.3 PTR files that hints at some extra XP from future versions of heirloom gear. Currently, with two pieces of heirloom gear, you can get up to a 20% bonus (the chest and shoulders each give a stackable 10%, while heirloom weapons give nothing). But this Heirloom Experience Bonus +5% "spell" grants an extra 5% experience, so it could be that in the future, we'll see pieces of heirloom gear that have an extra bit of bonus on them -- maybe gloves, cloak, or a belt -- that will bring the total bonus XP up to 25%.
There's no base level or other identifying information on this attribute (we call it a "spell," but really, given its information in the game, it seems like a gear-specific ability), so we can assume that it'll be a full 1-80 bonus, just like the current heirloom gear in the game. Unfortunately, we haven't actually uncovered any new heirloom items yet, so we have no idea if this stuff will show up in patch 3.3 or the expansion. And of course, just because the bonus applies from 1-80 doesn't mean the gear can be worn that whole time -- it sure seems like Blizzard wouldn't necessarily want Worgen and Goblin alts speeding past Cataclysm lowbie content. But we'll see -- in the meantime, look for a little extra heirloom power, coming soon.
Thanks, Gene!

I hope that is for a head item. I would love to have a complete set of old blue instance 60 looking heirloom gear.
With that info and the fact soon we can send these items across faction? Oh yeah intice me Blizzard =)

Awesome more heirlooms is a good thing. I kinda wish I could get a full set of heirloom gear even if it didn't give any more XP bonus because then i wouldn't ever have to check my gear I can just level until i'm 80

Coming soon...
Tattered Dreadmist Raiment (0/8)
Set (2): Increases mana regeneration while not casting by 50%.
Set (4): Increases spell power by 2% of your Spirit.
Set (6): Increases experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests by 10%.
Oh yeah... get there Blizz.
MazokuRanma Oct 20th 2009 8:45PM
Yeah, I thought exactly this when I saw that bonus. A set bonus of some sort.
I don't know if they'd go to 8 pieces though, seems like there'd be no point to any gear rewards when leveling. Mind you, I wouldn't really mind not having to change my gear as I level, so if this does happen I'm ok with it. I'm replacing everything at 80 anyway.

Hopefully, its either a helm or shield heirloom, and I'm betting more likely on the shield. Cloaks have always been "meh", as for helms, most of the time I keep them turned off.
Mike Schramm Oct 20th 2009 7:23PM
Not all classes use shields -- I don't think they'll put an XP bonus on an "optional" item. Though it would be nice to have an heirloom shield or offhand in general, so you could level up without having to compare 2h and 1h/offhand duos all the time.
devilsei Oct 21st 2009 12:31AM
Very true, though it could actually be both shields and offhands, something to cover the spectrum of what takes that space.
Docp Oct 21st 2009 2:06AM
but then they'd also have to add the exp to all the offhand weapons as well as the 2h weps which I can't see them doing. I doubt it'll be on any of those slots.
Personally when I saw the spell I thought it looked like a 2set bonus for having both a chest and a shoulder item, and a 25% exp bonus would be a pretty good overall number.

Do people really think Blizz is going to design the lowbie areas for worgen and goblins around heirlooms? The goblin area takes place on an island so its seems gated by design and then the worgen area seems to involve flashbacks and the use of lots of phasing.
miked Oct 20th 2009 7:32PM
Yep, they've set themselves up for a simple solution: no mailboxes until you're phased with the rest of the world, around level 5 (or 10 or whatever).
ash Oct 20th 2009 7:38PM
I don't buy it. Even before heirlooms existed you could always send your alts money, mats, crafted items, etc.
MazokuRanma Oct 20th 2009 9:15PM
Does it really matter? Who really needs heirloom items to get from 1-10 anyway?
I know I buy heirlooms because they make the later levels go by faster.
SaintStryfe Oct 21st 2009 3:56AM
I suspect they'll just not give the XP bonus until level 60 for them for the first 4-6 months. You cans till wear them and get the ever-good stats, but you can't get the XP. Makes sense to me.
Samuel Reese Oct 21st 2009 8:13AM
The DK Starter Zone had a mailbox, phases and all.
Arlendor Oct 20th 2009 7:25PM
How about an heirloom tabard that just gives +5% xp? Seems like the most logical idea to me. Any alt could use it, and it's not replacing any other piece of gear you'd be wearing below 80.
