Blizzard warns against buying gold

They sum up their statement by saying that "players who buy gold are supporting spamming, botting, and keylogging." Basically, if you're a gold buyer, you're part of the problem. No, seriously. Gold sellers acquire gold by hacking into other players' accounts, taking their gold, selling all their items, and sometimes maliciously deleting their characters. That gold you think some Asian spent hours farming in Nagrand or something is more likely to be some other player's hard-earned gold and the seller is just as likely to be some dude from Jersey.
As tempting as buying gold may seem -- and I've read many arguments towards why people buy them -- the bottom line is that it is harmful to the game and you're not doing yourself any favors in the long run. Blizzard says that it "diminish(es) the gameplay experience," but that's putting it nicely. Gold selling and power leveling are against the EULA, anyway, so anybody who patronizes these services are in danger of getting banned. And if you don't believe in buying gold (go you!), protect yourself by getting an authenticator or reading up on account security.

Why does the farmer have to be Asian?
Zach Oct 21st 2009 1:12PM
Would you rather I used 'Chinese'? Like I mentioned, gold farmers could very well be from Jersey. The term Chinese gold farmer is a common misconception.
aggrazel Oct 21st 2009 1:25PM
The chinaman is not the issue here dude.

I think he meant it as a racial stereotype and they could be British or Australian too. Of course, he prbably didn't read the article fully, morally outraged at some point.
Good post Zach, I wouldn't've noticed it on Blizzard's site if it wasn't for this post. (Namely because I barely go there)
Branch Oct 21st 2009 1:38PM
"Chinaman" really? Racist term gets upvoted, wow players rarely surprise me.
Rhabella Oct 21st 2009 1:42PM
Can't we all just get along? (not in the words of an Asian btw)
I think all of this is moot, apparently Blizzard is now testing a new strategy...
ALL REALMS WILL BE HIGHLY UNSTABLE AND REQUIRE ROLLING RESTARTS UNTIL ALL GOLD FARMERS CANCEL THEIR ACCOUNTS.
Thank you,
Blizzard Mgmt

Hey, listen I’m from Jersey and you can’t take away mah farm! We’ve been in Nagrand for generations! Mah daddy was a gold farmer and his daddy before him and his daddy’s daddy before him. Heck, gold farmin’s all we’ve ever done and its just about all we know what to do. Now, the land…she just won’t yield anything anymore. Outland just ain’t got no weather animations and that means no rain for the soil. You can’t grow gold in this.
(sob) It’s all dirt now…and now the man in the city wants to take it back? Our bones is in these floating islands! This level 73-77 zone’s a part of us and the man just wants to git’ on and rip er’ away.
(sigh) I suppose there’s nothing left to do but grab everything we own, throw it on top of the family clefthoof and head to northrend. I hear they got work there and dailies so big you get a 100 gold from them! Yeah, that’d be nice. That’d be real nice…
(grabs the soil with a clenched fist and falls to his knees, crying as the dirt blows away in the harsh wind)

You've obviously never seen The Big Lebowski. It was a reference to the movie.

Jersey?
My Tauren is offended.
Next you'll be profiling Angus.

Obviously you're not a golfer...
Retron Oct 21st 2009 2:37PM
Nothing can grow in Jersey, unless you count radioactive mutant roaches as farm stock.
Sorry, as a New Yorker, it's my sworn duty to make fun of Jersey.
Superthrust Oct 21st 2009 3:01PM
The Ops post, yet again, was downvoted for no damn reason. Zach, it was actually very sterotypical that you said "Asian"...Seriously, some people could take offense, if they aren't already under the damn wow.com sheepism.
Either way, its bad to throw out there "chinese gold farmer" as it could be taken by new players or something, that all chinese players are bad in this game...Not VERY likely, but it could happen.
Anyways, i guarentee ill be downvoted by the idiotic sheep here, but oh well.
snowleopard233 Oct 21st 2009 2:54PM
Hey, Retron, that’s not true. We got tomatoes…and stuff. I hear they grow cranberries or something down south, but that may be a myth…
Either way, enjoy your sales tax :P
Kurash Oct 21st 2009 3:43PM
@Superthrust.
"Idiotic sheep," eh? Well, at least we're smart enough to be able to distinguish between a comment that is perpetuating racial stereotypes and one (like this) that is attempting to prove that they are unfounded.

How else am I supposed to replace my rug if not buying gold?
That rug really tied the room together.
Oni Stardust Oct 21st 2009 4:28PM
Zach: "The stereotype that all gold farmers are Asian is not true."
Ignorant People: "Zach is stereotyping Asians!!"
Wait... what?

In the Blizzard article no where does it mention gold BUYING as being a bannable offense. Selling, YES. Powerleveling, YES. Please direct me to the portion where it outlines the ban for buying gold.
Blizz: Selling gold for real money and having characters power-leveled are violations of our Terms of Use and End User License Agreement, and we regularly take corrective action when we find that these services have been used.
