The Queue: Naptime

I'm going to kick off today's edition of The Queue with a question for you, the reader. It's a gravely important question, so read carefully! What should I order from the local Chinese joint for dinner tonight? Should I go with my usual, shameful choice of orange chicken? Or should I go a spicier route and go for the Kung Pao? Heck, maybe I should bring a little variety to the table with a Pu Pu Platter? Help me, WoW.com!
Sindrow asked...
"Remember how faction switching caused all AT progress to be wiped? Is it safe to say that race change will not have similar effects, since everything is occurring within the same faction? Can you guys think of *any* negative result of a race change?"
It's way too early for us here at WoW.com to say anything about that, we won't know until Blizzard launches the service. Personally, I don't think it would be a problem. If I understand right, the problem is that the various quests are tied to your faction, and the faction change system didn't set up quest equivalents across factions (and there was probably a good reason for it). For example, there was nothing that said Alliance Quest 274 is equal to Horde Quest 782. Since you're not switching factions with race change, I don't see why it would be an issue. There might be other factors that play a role though, so I really can't give an answer either way with any authority. Just wait and see.
Evil Midnight Lurker asked...
"What is the highest mountain currently in existence on Azeroth? Not by pen-and-paper, but by apparent height above sea level in the mmorpg."
I'm pretty sure it's Thorim's perch in Storm Peaks. Storm Peaks is a very vertical zone, you do as much up and down movement as you do running around on the ground, so it's already a pretty tall zone. Then you have Thorim's Temple which just rockets into the sky, and I'm pretty sure if you jump off with Slow Fall or Levitate, you could hit the other end of the continent if you didn't bump into any mountains or trees. Teldrassil is also ridiculously high up, but I don't think that counts because it's a tree and not a mountain. It might also be deceptive, because the shore of Kalimdor is pretty low. Storm Peaks is tall overall, which makes the Temple of Storms' height more impressive.
johnthediver asked...
"Where are the dance studios? Are they even still in development? Will they be listed as a feature of Cataclysm? All future expansions?"
Blizzard has said that this is in development repeatedly. It's slow work, but they're working on it. They want it to be a good feature, and let's be honest, it's probably pretty low priority. I'd guess the people doing these dance animations are the same people animating the new races in Cataclysm, all of the bosses in Icecrown Citadel and future raids, all of the new mobs in the expansion, and all of that sort of thing. While I'm sure they're working on it, they're probably doing it between all of their other projects.
Jason asked...
"I've heard that the Weekly Raid quests in 3.3 will award 10 Emblems of Frost & that all heroic dungeons will drop Emblems of Triumph, but I haven't heard whether or not the Daily Heroic Dungeon quest will award Emblems of Frost or stick with Emblems of Triumph. What about the Daily Normal Dungeon quest?"
If you read our site religiously, one of our postings last night probably covered this question for you. If you don't, allow me to recap.
The daily dungeons and heroics as we now know them are gone. They're being replaced with daily quests you can only complete via the new LFG tool in patch 3.3. The daily requires you to do any random dungeon/heroic at all via the LFG tool in a PUG. (Update: Poor word choice here, sorry guys. You need to do a random dungeon via the LFG tool, but it doesn't have to be a PUG. It can be 5 friends, but which instance you do is chosen by the tool.) Check out the gallery I've embedded just below for more details on the quest rewards.
Cetha asked...
"So I just completed Battle for the Undercity for the 7th time and was shocked and pleased to discover that there are now voiceovers for everyone. Thrall, Jaina, Sylvanas, etc. Is this new? When did this happen?"
I'm fairly sure that's new as of patch 3.2. It might have happened as early as patch 3.1, but I think it was much more recent. It wasn't a documented change, so most of us were surprised by it the first time we heard it.
Morimoto asked...
"Is the heroic daily the same across all servers? For example, on my server, Utgarde Pinnacle has been the daily for 2 days running."
It's randomly chosen on every server, so the daily heroic on my home server of Cenarion Circle won't necessarily be the same as the daily on Argent Dawn or Magtheridon or wherever you play.

To answer your question, you should probably go for the usual. At least you know you'll enjoy it! Orange Chicken also sounds the nicest of the three, with the Pu Pu Platter worrying me quite a lot.

Pu Pu Platter!
Jordan Oct 22nd 2009 8:44PM
Is that a clayfighter reference?
kabshiel Oct 22nd 2009 9:46PM
I loved those games!
silentfox Oct 23rd 2009 2:03AM
No, it is not a Clayfighter reference. I just really like the pupu platter. And it's name amuses me. But the Clayfighter games were fun ^_^

I'm pretty sure the highest point in Hyjal could easily rival Thorim's perch.

I'm not so sure... Old world was still kinda flat across the board (when thinking in terms of sea level). But think about this.. As you move from Storm Peaks back to the tournament, you're flying pretty steadily down... and then if you fly north to that new island where a couple AT dailies are, the drop to sea level is immense. So that really puts the peaks in SP up there.

Fun fact i got a mage to run with me (pally) from top of thorim's pearch, farthest we could get mounted with crusader aura and him reapplying slowfall was edge of dragonblight and borean tundra. We seemed to cath the lip of the cliff there every time no matter how minutely we adjusted our angle, it's a long journey so we only did it about 5 times. Though it didn't seem like we could make it very far into BT as we were getting quite close to the ground. We tried going to Howling Fjord but kept hitting random terrain and couldn't quite see a path.

What about Blackrock Spire? That can be seen all the way from Dun Morogh.

Here's a question for tomorrow's Queue:
Beyond that retarded question in the twitter dev chat this afternoon, have you guys heard anything from Blizzard regarding class-specific flying mounts for Warlocks & Paladins? Or do all indications show that they've moved away from that kind of thing (since you can now buy the mounts straight from the trainer and skip the quests, removing their exotic nature).
Merus Oct 22nd 2009 8:49PM
Considering they introduced class-specific mounts for Death Knights, I imagine they might look into it at some point.
Mr. Tastix Oct 23rd 2009 7:09AM
Question also applies to Paladins. But I'm not hoping for any class-specific flying mount for either paladin or warlock, tbh.
Deman Oct 22nd 2009 8:15PM
Nothing shameful about orange chicken. Go for that.
Ringo Flinthammer Oct 22nd 2009 8:45PM
Yes, there is.

You know what this article is now going to make me do, don't you? I am now going to have to log onto my mage, and see where I land if I just Slowfall off of Thorim's Peak...dear god, I hope I don't run out of Light Feathers.
Joking. Ha, you thought I was serious. Of course, I have the Glyph of Slowfall, I'm not gonna run out. BRB.
Skarlette Oct 22nd 2009 11:39PM
I've done it. Was very glad I had that glyph. Took forever to hit the ground. But it was awesome! :D
Aggrajag Oct 23rd 2009 4:34AM
On a similar vein, with my hunter I flew out of Dalaran and flew vertically up and up and up until I reached the game ceiling. I cancelled my flying mount and at the same time I equipped my old trusty cloak (I can't think of it's name) which allows me to slow fall every 30 minutes but takes the standard 30 seconds to activate.
Question: Did I survive the fall? i.e. did I fall for longer than 30 seconds thereby allowing me to activate the cloak?
Answer: Yes - just!
Josin Oct 23rd 2009 8:53AM
You might consider WoW Base-jumping, as well. Jump off of someplace high, and get as close as you can to the ground before pulling your parachute cloak (or flexweave underlay!)
From the ceiling of Storm Peaks into the Engine of the Makers (that deep hole in Storm Peaks) you can freefall for nearly 60 seconds before you have to pull the chute to avoid splattering.
I should really test it out in Icecrown, where I could just land safely in the water instead.
