i've always felt recount was a little wierd, never really understood how two people posting recounts for the same fight could have such varying numbers for everyone

The way I understand it, it's a proximity thing. If a party member is "out of range", your combat log won't pick up their damage, and thence not feed it to Recount.That's why it's helpful when using WWS (as mentioned by Captn above) to have more than one person using the tracking addon. WWS then combines the various logs into something considerably more reliable.

The Insanity phase during Herald Volazj is an extreme example of the proximity issue. Only your DPS meter will correctly show your DPS for this fight.
