Speculating at the patch 3.3 release date

That said, testing is moving relatively smoothly on the PTRs, and lots of the content seems like it's pretty well put together. We aren't nearly done with testing yet, though -- we haven't seen most of the Icecrown raid, and we're still waiting on Halls of Reflection, the 5-man where we'll face Arthas. Gear still needs to go into the game and be tuned. There are around 15 different bosses and encounters in Icecrown (that we know of), and if Blizzard continues on the schedule of testing one or two per week, we're looking at six to eight more weeks of testing for just that content. The PTR itself went up just under a month ago, and it seems that we've got at least a month or, likely, more of testing and updating to be done.
All of this information, combined with what we've already learned over the past five years about how Blizzard releases content, leads us to see the patch coming sometime in early to mid-December. It's unlikely we'll see it before the Thanksgiving holiday -- the Pilgrim's Bounty holiday should already be out in the clients, and given the rate at which Blizzard has tested the content so far, it just doesn't seem likely that they'll finish it up in just another month. And anything too close to the holidays might cause problems on Blizzard's staff trying to push out a patch while wanting to spend time with their families.
That said, remember that this is an early bit of speculation -- we may see the patch as soon as Thanksgiving (though don't count on it), or we may not see it until after the new year (which seems like it would be a long time for raiders, many of whom have already conquered even the heroic content). But from what we can tell, seeing the patch hit the live realms on December 8th, 15th, or 22nd seems most likely. Don't hold your breath for those dates, but as a general idea of where it might land, that all seems to make sense.

No chance of a patch being applied on the 22nd of December. No way they would schedule a change that close to Christmas when a chunk of their staff are bound to be on vacation.

I would have doubts about the 22nd, I'm certain they don't want a major patch hitting while the majority of the staff are home for the holidays.

Clearly, 3.3 is dropping on either the 24th of Soonvember or Whenitsreduary 15th.
Slaytanic Oct 23rd 2009 7:49PM
Any speculation on whether its release will be....what's the word...."rationed"? Like Sunwell or the recent ToC?
James Oct 23rd 2009 9:07PM
They have already announced that yes a gated system similar to SWP and TotC will be used in ICC.
Knob Oct 24th 2009 7:39AM
Not exactly. It's just that you won't be able to access the heroic modes of the bosses until the Raid Leader has defeated the Lich King in normal mode.
Oh, and ICC has 12 bosses, not 15 like the article claims.

Whenever it comes.. MMO champion clearly puts that "patch this week" every fucking week before the patch actually comes. And people still think that maintance = ptr closed, its coming next week.

I want it to drop at 8th of december.
That's my birthday. :D

Well, Season 8 is going to start in January, so I'd expect end of December/early January. I'd say December 29 or January 5. They're obviously going to want staff there in case they have to adjust things for bugs, which they almost always do. That pushes my guess to January 5.

I stand by my original prediction from earlier this month, that it will be Dec 15th.

I will add to it that given the apparent new trend of server maintenance, it fits the current pattern. Recently, it has been that there would only be server maintenance (or alternating restarts, depending) every other week instead of each week. Dec 15th, according to this current trend and pattern, lands on one of the alternating maintenance days.
Patches are always released on maintenance days, for the uninformed.

I don't recall Blizzard ever releasing a content patch right before a major holiday. If something went wrong with a patch on Dec. 22, either it would go unfixed until the new year, or it would completely hose a lot of holiday plans.
I'm betting on early December or (more likely) early January.

It's been a sad past couple weeks for me, knowing that here I've been working hard on a couple different characters, getting them geared and ready to beat Arthas up a bit, even only if to face them in the 5 Man, Halls of Reflection. But here we are, coming up on November and I can't really disagree that we're probably looking at a December launch for 3.3. So, here's what's got me feelin' a tad bit low.
My account is set to expire on Nov 6th. After that I have one week, Warcraft free, to visit family and say my little goodbyes before I'm off for a solid three months. I signed up for the US Navy about 6 months ago, and ever since then I've been feeling a bit nervous. But my time is coming up now and I gotta get ready to ship out for Boot Camp and my Class A School. The real disappointing part of this, and I know it's stupid and all, is that I've spent a ton of time in wotlk, and once again I won't be able to show the final boss all this cool gear I've collected along the way, just to come and kick his ass with 24, 9, or 4 other friends.
So for all those that will be around for 3.3, best of luck in Icecrown, regardless your raid or party size. And be sure to tell Arthas I said hello. I'll be back for Cataclysm, and Deathwing... You're next.

/Salute and good luck in the Navy! You could not have picked a better service to go into ( I am a 13 Year Navy Veteran, I had to get out because of Injury).
Invierna Oct 24th 2009 6:33PM
Thank you for your service, Kyle.
And don't worry -- Cataclysm won't be out in March! You'll still have a chance to show Arthas who his daddy is before the expansion. :)
