PTR Patch 3.3: Potential new spirit beast

This got me thinking that there are 3 possibilities (okay, I'll admit there are a lot more than 3). First, Blizzard has been secretly planning on allowing shamans learn a new ability called spirit bear that will finally allow them to tank. Next, maybe night elf druids will be able to Shadowmeld in bear form. Finally, my personal favorite, could this be a new spirit beast?
The idea of a bear form spirit beast isn't out of the question. So far we've had a couple of cat forms and one wolf. Adding a bear form would fit right in with the standard pet forms.
I don't know, but I can't wait to find out. If it does turn out to be new tamable spirit beast, I'll call him DeadElvis. If not, maybe this is what a tamed druid will look like after they learn hunter form. Either way, stay tuned and as Patch 3.3 develops we'll let you know what we find out.

OH FOR THE LOVE OF!!!
I need more stable slots! I know that I will be mocked but I've got all three spirit beasts and my other two are untamable now. I have nothing I can give UP!!
That's it. I have to power-level my baby hunter STAT!
*shakes fist at sky*
It looks amazing. A bear! *incoherence and SQUEEING*

You realise its much more likely to be a new mount.
Eamara Oct 24th 2009 4:31AM
Jadfer, it doesn't have a saddle. The spectral tiger does: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49284#screenshots:id=144072
I doubt it's a mount. It could be, but I'd say it's more likely to be a new spirit beast pet.

Well, there's a Night-Elf in ICC, presumably as a boss, so maybe she takes on Spirit-Forms or something for the fight?
Nathanyel Oct 24th 2009 6:59AM
That's a dragon, not a NElf.
Dreyja Oct 24th 2009 8:10AM
LOL. I'm happy either way. Really though, given the record. It;s far more likely to be a beastie than a mount but it's all good.

He's part of the level 10 druid quest, and his model didn't change when ours did. Don't get your hopes up hunters

Skoll looks so cool in action btw, for those of you maybe haven't seen him yet. This one has some of the same cool coloring.

Sorry I am done, I promise. :) Of course I hope it's a spirit beast.
Leviathon Oct 24th 2009 3:04AM
It's for the Zul'drak bear god.
Dreyja Oct 24th 2009 8:22AM
That would actually be pretty cool.
Sarakin Oct 24th 2009 3:41AM
as brilliant as allowing me to spirit bear tank would be I doubt that's what it is. Most likely a new hunter pet.

It would be absolutely fantastic if shaman could tank at last, it's so good an idea I doubt its anything to do with Shaman and of course Bliz have said they have no plans for tanking Shaman :(
....On the other hand they also said the same about Faction Change, Race change etc...
Meethan Oct 24th 2009 9:42AM
It was in the origibnal WoW manual that they could, so why wouldn't blizz want to finally follow up on that?
Gemini Oct 24th 2009 2:41PM
Because originally shamans were the counterpart class to paladins, but now that that's no longer the case, they don't have to compete for the same roles.

Shaman tanking is gone for good

Which is really just an oversized vanity pet when it comes to the endgame raiding..
I have Lohque; it just stays in the stables.
I had Gondria; and let it go to free up space.
I had Skoll and replaced it with a spider for pvp; would have been nice to keep this one, but lacking furious howl just isnt cool.
The bear looks nice; but yea that's about all..
wtb more stable slots though please.
Dreyja Oct 24th 2009 8:14AM
I totally understand that. If my pet choices were rational, even in real life, then my life would be a much duller place. :D
I'm OK with this challenge though. I'll level as many hunters as I need to if that's what it takes. :D
jumb Oct 24th 2009 4:12AM
As a raiding hunter: Who cares about a new spirit beast? BM is not a viable raid spec for min/maxing, so noone will bother to tame it apart from just keeping it as a vanity pet.
You know what I want from blizzard? I want them to nerf wolves. They're so boring but are easily the best non-exotic dps pet. I miss seeing ravagers, raptors and kittys in my raids and 5-mans.
Dreyja Oct 24th 2009 8:19AM
as I said above I totally understand where many "raiding" hunters are coming from.
I raid as well but we all have the things that make the game magic for us and this is the one for me. :) Hunting the rares is what I "live" for in the game.
All good though. :) If the model and challenge isn't your thing, that's no worry then. One less person camping for it then. /happy dance.
All the best to ALL my fellow-hunters. :D

@Dreyja
I use to like hunting rares in vanilla, but after the Broken Tooth incident, I gave up on rares. However, I did manage to get the ghost/spirit wolf and I guess I am one of the lucky few. If the new spirit bear is a tamable beast, that would go against what they said about taming non beasts. I rarely see bears as pets, so maybe that will change in 3.3?
