Alright, so maybe she's only picked it up after
almost five years of the game being out, but it looks like actress
Eliza Dushku has started to play
World of Warcraft. The actress, who broke into the nerd radar when she played a renegade Slayer in Joss Whedon's Buffy, tweeted yesterday
asking her followers whether she should roll Alliance or Horde. The tweet made a small ripple across the nerdverse. The Dollhouse star, whose new show is
getting pummeled in the ratings, received a number of responses on Twitter, most of them telling her to roll a Horde Blood Elf. We certainly hope she bucks the trend, though...
Dear Eliza,
Please roll a female Tauren Druid.
Sincerely,
Zach
Dushku isn't the first actress or celebrity to publicly reveal a geeky side, and certainly not the first, uh, cryogenically-challenged female to play the game. There's
Mila Kunis from That 70's Show, Guild creator and star
Felicia Day, or even gaming event staple
Kat Hunter, so the actress' firing up
WoW probably isn't
that big a deal. I mean, it's really okay to be geeky. There's nothing to it. Even
girls play video games. It's also stipulated in the nerd handbook that we should play them in our underwear. The Chewbacca one.

people telling her to roll a blood elf? seriously? I think there's more than enough of them already
Boz Oct 28th 2009 1:42PM
Just imagine, while she's smashing face on a male troll rogue her guildmates emoting hugs and kisses at a female blood elf priest actually played by a 45 year-old overweight accountant from Sheboygan.
Spazmoose Oct 29th 2009 3:11PM
Why the hate for Sheboygan?
JLocke Oct 28th 2009 1:05PM
anyone know what factions the others played/play?
Zach Oct 28th 2009 1:09PM
Oh hell, this is the second post where I make an underwear joke. I need to expand my repertoire.
Extrox Oct 28th 2009 1:26PM
In before the "That was rude, zomg. I R ANGRY!" QQ.
t0xic Oct 28th 2009 2:01PM
@Extrox
The tweet should read like this for extra nerd rage:
Dear Eliza,
Please DO NOT roll a blood elf paladin. Also, do not even think about considering a dwarf paladin. On second thought, just don't roll a paladin at all. GC hates them, and I hate them, too. They wear pink underwear and like My Little Pony.
Sincerely,
Zach

What's wrong with Eliza Dushku and pink underwear? =p
Extrox Oct 28th 2009 9:36PM
haha, I was wondering how long it'd take for that comment to get downvoted =)
Kylenne Oct 28th 2009 3:45PM
Yeah, branching out from 12 year old-level misogyny would be awesome.
Sleutel Oct 28th 2009 7:24PM
Speaking as a lady, I would like a pair of Chewbacca underwear.
That is all.
Khremloc Oct 28th 2009 1:14PM
To the people who told her to roll belf!
Reroll.
Kinman Oct 28th 2009 1:22PM
You go girl. Smart way to try to pump some life into your TV show as it dies on the vine.
Sven Van Herck Oct 28th 2009 1:23PM
She really should ask Felicia Day for advice, they work on the same set so shouldn't be hard. Atleast she won't roll a belf then..
And also, what better role model is there than Felicia as it comes to girl gamers :)?
kat.hunter Oct 28th 2009 2:05PM
Thanks for the mention, but I am not a celebrity :) I would like to /spit on the fact she rolled a Blood Elf however ;) - Kat
Zach Oct 28th 2009 1:41PM
Ok, fair enough. But you ARE cryogenically-challenged, right?
Tolkfan Oct 28th 2009 1:41PM
Ah, free publicity...
jealouspirate Oct 28th 2009 1:43PM
Call me cynical, but I imagine that she really has very little (if any) interest in WoW.
She's just got a manager who realizes that a large chunk of her fans are likely gamers. It's just marketing.
Falcon6 Oct 28th 2009 1:46PM
Yes, it'd be completely uncalled for that she would play the game because she actually showed some interest in it. That is just impossible.
=P
Spookie Oct 28th 2009 1:53PM
Most gamers I know haven't even heard of Dollhouse nor her!
