Patch 3.3 PTR: Ghostcrawler explains Paladin changes
You know how it goes. Blizzard nerfs Paladins, Paladins shake their heads in disbelief, then break out the pitchforks and scream bloody murder for a bit, beg Blizzard not to push through with the changes, and eventually run home and cry into My Little Pony sheets and staining pink underwear. Sure enough, when the recent PTR patch notes hinted at nerfs to the Paladin class, the pitchfork-wielding and bloody murder-screaming ensued. We're now about to enter the stage of bargaining. It's still on the PTR, after all. For those wondering what the bed-wetting ruckus is all about, Sacred Shield was nerfed to proc only once every 30 seconds (essentially proccing only once every cast of the spell unless augmented with talents), Aura Mastery was nerfed to 6 seconds down from 10, and Lay on Hands is being primed to be uncastable on one's self.
Ghostcrawler said that he didn't "want to promise (they) won't change the spell for 3.3," but that players also shouldn't "worry too much on the Lay on Hands change at this point" since it didn't make it to the latest PTR build. He explains in the forums that Paladins are no longer just a support class (as they were for quite a long time), but that all the abilities over time have contributed to making the class feel like a "one-man army" that is able to play offensively, defensively, and essentially take on more challenges without having to change stances, forms, or even specs. In a rather snippy response to a troll crying (with My Little Pony blanket in hand) in the forums, Ghostcrawler simply said, "Dear OP, Bye. Hugs, GC."
Discussing the Sacred Shield change as soon as we got wind of it, I argued to the WoW.com team that it was a Retribution PvP nerf more than anything, and a push for Holy to use it more in its focused healing kit. Although it does hurt Paladin tanks, Ghostcrawler states that Blizzard's "overall goal is to make Ret less tanky." Guess what? Retribution only really "tanks" in PvP, where the repeated nerfs to the spec's burst has altered its playstyle to become one about survivability. With the nerf to Sacred Shield and the planned nerf to Lay on Hands, that survivability diminishes massively.
With retribution burst nerfed to the proverbial ground, and survivability seemingly about to fall on its face, there's still no sign of the much asked for PvP utility to compensate for the removal of burst (Paladins never got out of the bargaining stage, apparently). It had gotten to the point that protection had become a much more viable, fun, and admittedly OP spec to PvP with, necessitating some nerfs to the protection tree which continue with Patch 3.3. This includes the possible nerf to Lay on Hands (put down those pitchforks, people, the nerf isn't even live on the PTR yet) which would be, to put it bluntly, stinky and messy as Murloc poop.
The good news is that, again, this is still just the PTR. Things can still change, and this is why it's being tested. The hope is that Lay on Hands will come out of it unscathed, but again, Ghostcrawler didn't promise anything (no more promises from the crab!). If I were to venture a guess, the iconic spell will likely still get nerfed to a degree. Stay tuned to the PTR and WoW.com, and hold on to your pink undies.
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to the Arthas. WoW.com's Guide to Patch 3.3 will keep you updated with all the latest patch news.

This is pretty sad. I don't understand how they can even consider nerfing LoH. You can't use it in arena, it has a 20 minute CD, and it eats up some mana. I mean, what's the big deal? What, were the PVPers QQing that much? Come on, bring the other classes up to the same approximate level. I mean honestly, it'd be nice to see other classes that aren't DK or Paladin doing better than they are. Why nerf one ability when you can improve other classes so they can deal with said ability. LoH is valuable in dungeons too when healers can't get to you, though if they're doing their jobs properly, they can. So yeah...that's my two cents.

I have 1 thing to say at all mindless players in wow...U all think paladins are OP...
I am playing paladin and i have to say u isnt....u all hate paladins cause of this INSANE burst...ok be happy...burst is over...and now u go to nerf his survivalbility which is pathetic nowdays?Oh i forget a paladin has bubble...WOW!!!Use ur heads for god sake...Look a Disc priest!!!!!and after speak about tanking in pvp...PRIEST with 30khp...wtf....see a dk with everything on him...100shields....100 silences...plates....and u are speaking about survivalbility?? cause of 1 bubble? or a fucking lay on hands? nerf lay...is gay...but dont cry for a class that have burst without having more usefull skills like a warrior(-50%heal) or a dk with so much silence and burst...u all speak about paladins...but as paladin is awfull to receive chaosbolt from pvp gearedwarlock 14k...or a strike 11k from a dk..or 11k lavaburst...wake up

I do somewhat agree with what Phillip says about the Blizz attitude. But as for me i am also a 30+ player who pays thier own way and enjoys the challenge of a game which is why i keep playing ive continually seen Blizz nerf classes to dumb the game down for less skilled players and kids who play with other peoples money or buy toons and gold because they cant level fast enough, the challenge is the game, consequently these are the very same people who cause the majority of the in-game problems of theft verbal abuse and harassment and come on forums and practically do the same. Dont forget who your player base is blizz, its not the kids who will jump ship to the next big thing since they are too young to undersand the value of hard work and patience. On another note, check out the Warcraft story line, ALL of the key characters revolve around the Paladin, warrior and mage classess, predominantly Pallies, why nerf what is the base of your original success in drawing in people from the beggining, Pallies are a class meant to help others and solo, if you dont want that play another class! Thanks and think before you act or you may see your 150million in monthly fees start to dry up!

so funny, i am relatively new and did not know pallys are considered to be such a threat in pvp. i got pulverized by a dk last night over and over and over and over. One blast and i was killed. i didnt even really get to play.

Hmmm.. well some changes are well deserved, I play a Paladin myself (Prot-Never really liked ret) some changes are fine, can live with it but now the LoH nerf? It might be good and bad at the same time, well pretty bad for Prot Paladins, its a life saver in some situations, I have used it few times to finish off a boss (2 man'ed it or even solo when it had little HP left) so the LoH is an awful change but then again, who knows! They may change their minds about it, and hopefully they do or maybe we can use it still but maybe with some sort of restrictions or something, I just hate it if you can't use it at all on yourself..

why is that the only people i've noticed who are complaining about pallies are the ones that pallies are designed to beat? rogues they're only bitching because they cant 1 shot us like a priest. i have yet to see a warlock complain about pallies being op. and as a pally i feel that warlock is op but that is because they are designed to kill pallies. As for Sacred shield i can live without on my ret spec but i need for holy, and LoH? At least make it to where you cant self cast in bgs too not just arenas if it makes you feel better. there have been many times when the healer lags up or the tank is starting to die so he's not paying attention to me.

Yep the Nerf sux. Respec is the only way around it atm that i can see.
But make it so LoH actually does go off once cast~. Since the patch ive cast it in numerous situations. BGs, Raids, and 5 man instances.
On the average it takes at least 7 casts for it to go off. In one case i was alone questing...and wanted to see how many times it would take to go off. I cast it 43 times on myself before it finally went off. And No i did not have forbearance or had i popped wings~.
What good is any spell if it doesnt go off?

Could someone please explain in simple terms how LOH works anymore?
I had a couple "Oh Sh*t" moments last night and I mashed LOH and nothing happened. Mousing over LOH on my task bar the text doesn't say anything about prerequisites - LOH won't happen if you do this, this, or this. It does say that if I use LOH on myself a lot of things won't work to protect me for 1.5 minutes after that.
Adding insult to injury is the fact that LOH isn't grayed out like it's on a cooldown or something is preventing it from working. It's bright, shiney, ready to be used, but - Doesn't work.
