Phat Loot Phriday: Jeweled Fishing Pole

Name: Jeweled Fishing Pole (Wowhead, Thottbot, Armory)
Type: Rare Two-hand Fishing Pole
Damage: 410-610 / 3.00 (169.3 DPS)
Attributes:
- 1603 Feral Attack Power. Yes, it's true. Just in case you druids leave this on while in a different form.
- Requires Fishing 300, which as we've said before, isn't too hard to do. Go over to El's Anglin' take a few hours and follow their great Fishing/Cooking guide, and you'll be done before you know it.
- Increases Fishing by 30, but in my experience, especially if you've maxed out fishing, you won't need to worry too much about fishing levels any more. With a +100 lure, you'll be able to fish almost anywhere in the world, and with almost any pole with a fishing bonus, you really will be able to fish anywhere without pulling in junk.
- The pole's made by Tiffany Cartier, an NPC who is a reference to both Tiffany's and Cartier's, both extremely high-end real-life jewellers. Cartier is also a jewelcrafting supplier, which is cute.
Personally, I think they should go nuts with fishing poles -- just like tabards and vanity pets, almost every faction should have their own kind of fishing poll for sale, so when you do hit up a fishing tourney like this, there are all kinds of poles to look at and find and collect. I can be patient, though -- there are still a few fishing items due out that we haven't seen yet, and Blizzard said at BlizzCon that we'll be seeing updates to the "fun" of fishing. We fishers are patient folks. Heck, we have to be. Our whole profession is mostly waiting.
Getting Rid of It: Get this -- sells back to vendors for 1 copper. Apparently Tiffany Cartier hasn't built up the reputation for high prices that her real-world namesakes have. Either that or this thing is too tacky for any vendors. At any rate, you might as well keep it.

I've gotten sucked into the world of fishing recently, and I want this SO BAD! I lol'd so hard the first time I saw it in game, it's so absurd.
I'm holding out hope that the day I finally loot it my paladin will magically transform into SAILOR MOOOOOOOOON ~ 8D

Maybe the sell price is so low because a lot of people vendored their old fishing poles (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=25978) and had to get a GM to restore it... or maybe that was just me. :)

THIS GAME IS SO EASY THEY EVEN GIVE YOU JEWELS ON FISHING RODS!!!

Isn't it ironic that the JEWELED pole sells for 1 copper, but the BONE pole sells for 17g85s?

It's *almost* Priceless.

On one hand, I'd like to have 450 fishing on all my (5, sigh) toons. On the other hand, leveling it on just one of them felt like a "damn tedious waste of an evening."
So I'm still holding out that Blizzard surprises us by altering fishing--they promised to make it more "fun"--in 3.3. Probably not much hope for that, though...

From what I understand the fishing skill as a whole may be made obsolete, according to the European Blizzard poster's explanation of the procedures of the new fishing contest.
According to that post, fishing in schools of fish or other pools will guarantee fish, regardless of fishing skill. I can't seem to find anything to confirm this beyond that post and a very brief post about in the El's Extreme Anglin' forum, but if it's true, than there you have it.

Mounts, epic gems, grey items worth 100g, buff food, summon-able bosses, fishing contest (soon to be contests) etc etc - I really honestly don't know what they could do to turn such a boring game mechanic "fun".

The forum thread in question here:
http://www.elsanglin.com/forums/topic/33-no-trash-in-fishing-pools
Which also links to a few other things on the subject. If it's true, than yes sir, you did indeed waste that evening. So did many of us.

@ Raze
Thanks for that link... damn. Well, I've wasted my time worse.

I've been hoping for the bone one just so my DK looks appropriate while fishing.

I got this from the fishing daily when I had less than 2k left on the Kaluak rep grind... typical.
curtisrutland Oct 30th 2009 6:32PM
It's still worth finishing for the pet, IMO.

If you look at this pole in side view, it looks like a dragonfly. Spiral handle is the eye, the little wings behind, and the long body is the pole. Nice!

It's funny. While my Hunter with maxed-out fishing is still running around with Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole (Been too lazy to grind rep with the Kalu'ak. No offense walrus people, but you aren't a priority for my limited play time,) it was my Mage who barely had enough fishing skill to make the dailies not take painfully long who ended up with this. I had to grind the last 25 or so points to 300 on him so he could even equip it after it dropped. I think my Mage is just lucky or something. He also got the sewer rat one day when I was doing the Jewel of the Sewers daily.

I just got this fishing pole yesterday! I'll still use the Kalu'ak one, but it's nice to have options.
