Breakfast Topic: Day of the Dead ends today

How did everyone find the short holiday? It mirrored the short holiday it was based on in the real world, and even similar holidays all over the world. In the Philippines, we got a non-working holiday for November 2, where most folks are off to the provinces visiting their dead. How did everyone's Day of the Dead go? Were you able to take a gander at the lovely dancing Catrina? Were you able to bake some (presumably stale) bread? What's your take on these short holidays? Personally, I think it's a nice touch. These blink-and-you'll-miss-it events similar to Pirate's Day are nice nods to our real world happenings. Hopefully, all of you got a chance to enjoy this new but brief world event.

The little skeleton they give you needs to be made into a non-combat pet rather than another item you must store away.

^^ this
i was one of the early folks that got his items disappeared, but since it is only useable 2 days out of the year and otherwise takes up a bank slot, im glad it went poif

Pretty sure the pet will disappear at the end of the holiday, like the magic broom does.

WTB Permanent Macabre Marionette pet, pst. D:

Day of the Dead may be gone now, but my pet still is in my bag, and usable.
Does that mean that it's a bug or has Blizzard relented and decided to let us keep one of the coolest pets so far.

I thought it was nice to have, though I don't see why the pet wasn't a permanent plaything. Perhaps they could have had a separate permanent version of it that dropped from any ghost/undead you kill in these 48 hours.

As a side note (no offense) I think Blizzard spent the amount of time implementing this holiday as WoW Insider did making the topic image ;)

Haha...possibly.
However, I like these little holidays. I saw a lot of people complaining about how short the holiday was or about how little there was to "do." But I think these holidays are more for RPers or even just people who enjoy getting a little creative here and there. My favorite part about Pirates' Day was all the people talking in pirate-talk (and all the uptight people telling them to stop :D ). GormanGhaste's comment below is another perfect example of how these holidays allow us to create our own fun.

I was disappointed that the companion is an item as opposed to a learnable mini-pet like all the other holiday pets are (i.e. Sinister Squashling). Other than that I liked it. I really liked one of the trivial aspects of the holiday too: the way you looked while sitting once you got transformed into the skeleton wearing a spanish-stye hat reminded me of someone taking a siesta in a movie.

Like everyone else has said. That little pet needs to be permanent. I wanted to feed him a papa hummel's biscuit to see if he would be the size of my bank gnome. If he were a permanent pet then they should add more some "flavor" to him. If you /dance with him then he starts dancing and shaking his maracas.

I would solo Durnholde just to get my Sombrero and buy the rest of the outfit if the pet could even dance with you and shake his maracas. That is a great idea! :D

I got the achievement so I guess that's all that really counts. But I happened to be awake and online at 1AM Sunday so I figured I'd take the time to check it out, /dance and make the bread. Only to wake up the next morning and learn about the problems and lose my pet which I never even got to play with. So I feel rather gypped but what can you do?

It ends today? But it just started yesterday!
Groth Nov 2nd 2009 9:08AM
if only it was 'Week' of the Dead.

They're making them summonable all year round?
Anyone else confirm this on US servers? They're still just Day of the Dead on EU.

Not that I don't WANT it to be true, I just need proof before getting my hopes up.

Actually, my favorite part of the holiday is the spirit candles. After all, honoring your dead is what the Day of the Dead is about. I went around and placed candles in places I would have liked to have shared with my father.
