In all reality, however, this is a question of morality and ethics, and to which school of ethics you apply to the situation. The letter writer is most likely using "the ends justify the means" school of ethics, whereas the author is coming from a different point of view.
While I don't necessarily condone what the letter writer is stating, that does not necessarily make it wrong, it just depends on how you look at it.
