Curse Client v4 now in open beta

Curse has recently released version 4 of their addon client to open beta. This is a major overhaul from their current client both in looks and functionality. It adds features such as change logs, settings backup, addon package creation, and a healthy dose of added security.
While it still does have some features only available to premium users, it is much less nagging about the process than their v3 client is known to be. Adamar (PC version) and Kaelten (Mac version as well as the addon OneBag) are the developers behind this new version and have been working with ckknight to help integrate some of its features into WoWAce.com and CurseForge addon development sites (both of which are owned by Curse Gaming). This allows players to report bugs via the new client and have them show up as support tickets in the addon sites for the developers to track and work with.
We've put together a couple quick galleries of what both the Mac (thanks Mike!) and PC versions of the new client look like as well as delving into some of the cool new features that are available with premium membership.

This is OLD news.
Kody Nov 3rd 2009 6:20PM
How is this old news? We just started open beta on it very recently.
Speedmonkay Nov 3rd 2009 6:24PM
Very recently ? Is that the same as Blizzard's "soon" ? Because I've been running v4 for well over a month now.

It's old news if you're a subscriber (I've been using it for months). However it's only recently become available for everyone else.

I'm not a subscriber and I've been using it for a few months. I did find it through WowAce though.
While I very much disliked the previous versions, I found this one very clear and practical.
Very good app !

I think my favorite feature in 4.0 is the addon syncing. Very handy if you play on multiple machines (like a laptop and desktop like I do).
And then they made the feature for premium members only and it made me sad :(

It's always good to support the makers of software that you frequently use. Even if you can't afford to give them cash just spreading the word about their product can help provide funds to keep them going.

I like it, it is very much like iTunes which isn't a bad thing whatsoever

Yeah and it tells me to turn off my anti-virus to use it. No thanks.

I'd like some more info on this before using it.

This is great, except half of the addons I use never get updated through Curse. Fail.
Culhag Nov 3rd 2009 8:33PM
Fail from your addon's authors, then.

Got scared for a sec, running it, when it didn't autoscan for my addons and gave me an empty list. Then I found the new scan button. :)
Wow! It knew what to do with my Lightheaded addon, which isn't hosted on Curse at all. Said there was an updated version, then offered to open that external website.
THAT's new, and worth the update right there.
(Mac version)

you got the client to download?
when I tried to download the Mac client it timed out. I'd like to give this a shot as the previous version was "almost there".
artifex Nov 3rd 2009 9:23PM
yes, I did it from the website. Installed fine.

Hmmm... no mention of plugging into MMOUI Minion. Too bad. I have always liked Curse, but the last client I tried from them didn't cut it. Does v4 find addons hosted at WoWInterface? Have the two sites been able to find common ground?
Koskun Nov 4th 2009 3:28AM
WoWInterface is making their own update client, so I highly doubt they will work from each other database unless some money changes hands. Other option is Curse buys out WoWInterface at some point in the future.
Amaxe Nov 4th 2009 12:43AM
So far it looks like you can;t get to the page to download it... which doesn't seem like a good omen.
Well I learned from my troubles with MinionUI and backed up my addon folder, so if it screws up I can undo it

I have never had much luck with V3 or so far V4, 90% of the time when I use V3 the addon only goes to like 20% and times out, and it has nothing to do with "popular" addon's being downloaded one day I will be able to update 3 of my 20 addons then none for weeks, then maybe one other. I basically just use V3 to let me know when my addon's are out of date then down load them directly from another curse mirror page.
Ive been trying to download V4 for a while now and always get to the last step of the download cycle one to have it quit on me around 80%.
