Tuesday Morning Post: Identity Crisis Edition

Of course, that's not the only big news this week. Chill of the Throne, Icecrown's version of Sunwell Radiance, has been evoking a lot of discussion and a lot of unrest. Did Blizzard make the right choice in adding this much maligned dungeon-specific nerf back into the game? There's plenty of other issues as well, and as we have a nice 3 AM to 11 AM Pacific downtime, you'll have plenty of time to catch up with it all. You can start with some of the links below:

I realize it would make no sense for blizz to do this, but I wish I could change classes...
Azango Nov 3rd 2009 7:22AM
You're right. That wouldn't make any sense.
Sargenus Nov 3rd 2009 7:25AM
Hell, It'd take a lot of work. But maybe Blizzard could make it you can change your class to a class you've already played to 80(Or 85 come Cata). To keep people from just changing classes and not knowing how to play it, you could only change your class as long as you have at some point had a 80 of said class.
Ametrine Nov 3rd 2009 7:27AM
Y'know those quests in Dragonblight, where you assist your future/past self in fighting some of the Infinite Dragonflight? Well, even if you're a ranged or caster class, your other self will just run around whacking things with your equipped melee weapons.
Now imagine players with that kind of stupidity and lack of class knowledge. Rogues who don't know how to Sap, or Shamans who don't know about Chain Heal, or Warriors who can't figure out how to hold aggro on multiple targets.
That's what Class Change will get you. People who swap to the flavor-of-the-week class with no real skill or familiarity in using that class.

If there was one thing that absolutely didn't make sense, it would be that. Classes can be similiar but they're still different: spells, rotations, etc. If they ever allow class changes, I will quit. It's bad enough that fotm get power leveled and the good players get over flooded with the bad players and its hard to tell the difference. We don't need I got tired of my priest so I can instant switch to a class that I don't even know how to play.
rosencratz Nov 3rd 2009 7:39AM
@ Sargenus - If you already had a max level of a class you wanted to change too why would you bother? You could just change the name/face/gender/race of the one you already have?
With dual speccing the only reason you could have for changing class in this scenario would be to carry your achievements and BoP gear over. (Woot for having Shaman Tier10 gear sat in a Rogue's bank!) just seems silly.

@Ametrine
im sorry but that is just ignorant. there are plenty of players that dont know how to play their class. and if they dont know what sap is when switching to a rogue they were probably a mage that didnt know how to sheep or a hunter that didnt even know what cc stood for.

"I realize it would make no sense for blizz to do this, but I wish I could change classes... "
Class change make total sense as the next step in customization. Blizzard is a company company first and game designer second. Anything that generates revenue is going to get the green flag and go into effect. Does it matter what class you play? Not really. It's the player behind the keyboard that makes all the difference and not the class. Hence Blizzards moto "Bring the player and not the class"
Look for class change service coming in a patch near you.
Amaxe Nov 3rd 2009 11:10AM
Give it some time. There really is no more reason to say no to it given the other changes Blizz changed their minds on. At $25-30 bucks a pop, its probably a good deal for Blizz too.
Skonged Nov 3rd 2009 11:28AM
"Now imagine players with that kind of stupidity and lack of class knowledge. Rogues who don't know how to Sap..."
If the player was bad with one class they are going to be bad with another. Same with a good player. If they are good with one class they are going to be good with another. Changing classes is not going to make you bad just like it won't make you good either.

This is funny, the people here who think class basics are remotely difficult.
"Rogues who don't know how to Sap, or Shamans who don't know about Chain Heal, or Warriors who can't figure out how to hold aggro on multiple targets."
Yeah, so hard to hit those buttons. Soooo complicated to spam aoe threat abilities. The only people who would be like this are the same ones that level a class all the way to 80 and still don't know how to play it, i.e. the idiots
Anyone with half a brain can pickup the class basics in a day. Sure, you wouldn't want to be doing progression raiding with them, but it really isn't rocket science.

My Tauren Hunter will stay just the way she is for good, as will my Draenei paladin. Jury's still out on what will happen to my BElf paladin once Tauren paladins show up, though. As slow as leveling is going, I might end up keeping him and just having two, one Prot, the other Holy.
TonyMcS Nov 3rd 2009 8:50AM
That would be the RICH crazy mutable nameless faceless blobs wouldn't it? ;-)
Amaxe Nov 3rd 2009 11:19AM
Only toon I would have considered a race change for was a draenei DK who I was keeping alongside a paladin I was leveling for an in guild RP event. Once that ended, the DK was no longer necessary.
Problem was I was only level 61 on the DK so I found it cheaper to reroll and get back to 61
Skonged Nov 3rd 2009 11:31AM
wtb class change option.

Effort is such a devalued skill now days
crispycritta Nov 3rd 2009 12:40PM
I posted this on WoW's forums awhile back, and I still think it is the most plausible solution.
CLASS CHANGE...COMING SOON!
And this is how it will be done.
First PAY UP SUCKA! $25 - $35, probably have 30 - 90 day cool down. Free name change included, and a pet, "Scabby the Rat" for all you scabs crossing the union lines.
Secondly and most importantly, PHASED STARTER ZONES for every class. Very similar to the DK starting experience, your brand new 80 will begin in a PHASED ZONE that is class specific. Think Ravenholt Castle if you chose Rogue, or Throne of Elements area if you chose Shaman, etc.
The phased NPCs there will give you quests which will bring you through the leveling process very quickly and reward you with talent points to spend and level 80 blue equivalent gear. After 5 hours or so you will emerge from the starter zone with all of your talent points, a full set of level 80 gear, and a working knowledge of the mechanics of your new class.
You will be given equivalent mounts and rep, but achievements will be lost.
Say whatever you want about it, but know this. The above or something very close to it will happen soon. Of this, I have no doubt.

I've been getting the urge to play my Hunter again after dropping him in favor my other characters about mid-way through the 3.1 patch. Since then, I've become tired of the whole "NE hunter" stigma and the look of the male. I love draeneis, so I might switch him to that camp or maybe even a Dwarf. People like dwarves, right?
BuzzDX Nov 3rd 2009 2:28PM
