Halloween is over and we're headed towards Thanksgiving, which means it's the time of year that charities everywhere ask you to open up your hearts and wallets and support some good causes. Azeroth United, the recently-formed
community for WoW players, just revealed the prizes in their
"Hearts, Hands, and Voices" charity giveaway. They're officially supporting
Child's Play (they got mentioned on
the main website), and your donation there (of $10 or $20) will get you into two tiers of giveaways, featuring prizes of all kinds from all over the
WoW community. Sounds like a great chance to both support a good cause and maybe even win some free stuff.
And from our old friend John "BigBearButt" Patricelli comes news of a
"Raid for the Cure" -- on Saturday, November 14th, a group of players from both factions will walk in-game on the Kael'thas server from Darnassus to Ratchet (and on to Booty Bay) to raise awareness and funds for the
Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity. Pink shirts will be handed out at the event, and making a donation of any kind over on
the WoW page for the charity will enter you in a raffle to win a guest appearance on the
Sidhe Devils Gone Wild podcast (a member of that guild has been dealing with breast cancer, and the in-game run is in support of her and her cause).

This is what sets the WoW community apart from other games. You can have a Halo contest and raise money but it's not as unique as what the players in WoW can do. Every time someone comes up with a money raiser it's unique and does a damn good job of raising money.
Even if it's just a tribute like BRK's running of the bulls and they are forced to stop because they are about to crash the server. Things like this make me smile and I'll be at this run and donating for sure.
GO BIGBEARBUTT!

Its amazing how awesome the community of WoW can come together for a good cause. I am a huge supporter of Child's play, breast cancer awareness and research, Make a wish, and St Jude's.

I'd bet ya anything there will be a bunch of level one toons that will be rolling on the server for this event. I think it's an awesome idea, but one that won't be possible if Blizzard kills level one's being in raids...

This has been your Darias "OMG don't kill meh level 1 raidz!!!111" post of the day. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Absoutely! I was recently priviledged to attend the Dead Man's Run on Perenolde (hosted by Darias and Sleeper Cartel), and the Pink Ribbon event on Farstriders (hosted by ECC) and if the minimum level for a raid changes, this will kill such events. Likewise, it would kill other social events such as memorial services or fun things like wand parties.
Perhaps Blizzard could find a way around this without destroying the spirit of fun that can be had.

"players from both factions will walk in-game on the Kael'thas server from Darnassus to Ratchet"
I believe Horde side will actually walking from the Tauren starting area, Camp Narache.
Anyway, I hope lots of people show up. Crash our server for a great cause! :D

Remember that supporting Breast Cancer also supports the fight against other types of cancer! One in two men and one in three women* will have some form of cancer in their lives; so you are helping family, friends, strangers and yes maybe even yourself by helping to find a cure. And who doesn't want to wear a shirt that says "I Love Boobies" and have it be socially acceptable?

Kael'thas?? That is a PvP server, no? Anybody getting that bad gut feeling? WELL LISTEN TO IT! Sheesh... Nobody remembers the Funeral Slaughter from way back when?? When the guild, Serenity Now, crashed a real life funeral being held in game? I won't be doing anything of the sort but I definitely remember that slaughter and how it was such a big deal... You'd think people would try to hold big events like this on a PvE realm...
Don't remember? Let this refresh the old melon...

Kael'thas is a PvE server.

Oh good!! I was looking at the European realm by mistake... Kael'thas is pvp on European. No worries... carry on! haha..

Save the boobies!
I know a local breast cancer group who has "Save the boobies!" as their moto.

Thanks Mike for posting this! These are two very good causes, and I am sure with the support of the WoW community both can meet their goals!

This is awesome. In my job, I work with mammogram and research accounts that are paid for by Komen donations. Without Komen, many people wouldn't have the help they need.

There needs to be a Facebook event about this. Not only is it a cool idea, the name is pretty funny. I'm in

For any who don't know, Sidhe is pronounced "she".

I'm all for this... but Thanksgiving is over Mike... Maybe we're just faster here in Canada.

This is a great cause and I think it’s amazing that WoW could be part of something like this. I have had cancer run through my family (lost my grandmother, grandfather, and aunt. And my mother is a survivor) and am looking forward to this event and showing my support.
I have kind of an odd question though. Would Blizzard consider allowing free realm transfers, so people like myself, could afford to bring their main over? I know it seems silly, I could just start a new toon and use him, but I would like to use the character that I feel best represents me instead of starting someone new and deleting them at the end of the day. I would like to donate money to both event but I would not be able to donate as well as transfer. What about Blizzard donating the money from realm transfers so that way people like myself can contribute and participate that way?
One way or the other I will be there and show my support!
Sincerely,
Jayson Pugh (Akillatem – Silverhand)

This is a great idea, and a great cause. I'll be there :)
yarf Nov 5th 2009 1:23PM
I will be there! My mother is currently undergoing treatments for ovarian cancer, which is in the same strains as breast cancer.
Though I think this should be done on a lot of servers. Not just with a bunch of level 1's but I think it'd be cool if this could be done on PvP servers too. Alas there will be too many douchebags out there :(
