Breakfast Topic: What you hope survives the cataclysm

Personally, as dumb as I know this will probably sound, when I think about old Azeroth my mind immediately returns to a tiny quest called Until Death Do Us Part. It's started by a bitter Forsaken who wants you take a pendant to her husband's grave at the Sepulcher. If you only wanted to look at it in terms of game mechanics, then it's a Fed-Ex quest designed to get you across the ocean and questing in Silverpine, but even with all the improvements to questing today, it stands apart. It's a very long journey for a young character, and when you finally arrive at the Sepulcher and find the husband's grave, you realize you've come all this way to deliver a worthless trinket to someone who threw his life away on a hopeless cause. You turn it in and...that's it. There is no follow-up. There is no happy ending. There is, however, the feeling that there's more to the savagery of the Forsaken than meets the eye.
Blizzard is actually trying to move away from quests that emphasize text over cool visuals, and it makes me a little sad just because Until Death Do Us Part was, from a writing standpoint, a masterpiece of effective writing and quick exposition. I'm hoping that, out of all the quests that stand to get axed in Cataclysm, this little gem survives.

Not if we wind up having to kill him in Icecrown :x Death Knight Uther - every paladin's worst nightmare.

The thing I'd hate to see go the most is BRD. The best instance ever created by Blizzard, by far. I enjoyed it when I started playing more than four years ago, and I still enjoy it today.
With the removal of Blackrock Spire I suppose the lower parts will either be removed or changed in some way. For BRD at least, I hope not!

Where did you hear that BRS was being removed? The only comments on it made at blizzcon were that 1) they were going to finish the outside of the mountain, and that 2) a new raid would be added at the peak, entered through Nelf's room on the outside of the mountain.

Sully Balloo's Letter, springs to mind.. another touching questline :)
But since the letter is already under water.. maybe it'll survive :)

This. I didn't find out about this quest until my third character, but it has to be my favorite vanilla questline.
Elmo Nov 4th 2009 10:03AM
Indeed, I never found this quest untill I was looking for EK quests for Loremaster.
it's one of the most touching quests out there.
it's sad phasing didn't exist at the time so a statue would phase in for this guy. (replacing a rock or something so we could still see the people in a different phase)

I'd never heard of this questline. I looked it up at http://www.wowwiki.com/Quest:Sully_Balloo's_Letter and read through the chain... when I get home tonight, I'm taking my main out to the bridge to find that letter. I don't need the XP, the rep or the rewards, but... feels like a right thing to do.

Pamela Redpaths quest line!
I'd say 80% of the reason I'm goin after the Lich King to avenge that little girls death.
gboyd Nov 4th 2009 8:24AM
Doh, you beat me to it. I guess I took to long to type. Yes this quest was my choice too!

That whole questline, and Battle of Darrowshire event are just awesome. I did it on my priest as part of Loremaster, and it was great to see. I did it originally on a mage in the 60 days with about 15 other people. Lots of fun.
IMO it's one of the sad things about expansions that make previous max-level areas virtual ghostlands. Newer players won't care to go to these areas, or do these epic quest chains, because they can just head to Outland, or Northrend for more exp, money, and gear.
eenersumbrella Nov 4th 2009 8:53AM
I love that quest line. It's heart breaking but it's one of the few that actually get you involved in the story. It better stay or I'll throw a fit :(
William S Kent Nov 4th 2009 12:12PM
Oh yes. That quest sticks with you. Out of all the quest I have ever done that one leaves you with the desire to make someone pay for it more than any other.
uncaringbear Nov 4th 2009 5:37PM
Agreed. I just finished that quest line last night on my new druid, and it gave me even more motivation to face Arthas and deliver some long overdue justice.
Wulfkin Nov 4th 2009 10:18PM
This.
One of the best questlines in WoW. When levelling up my DK I didn't go to Outland til 61 cos I was doing this and assosciated quests. Then when I couldn't get a group together to finish I came back at 70 and soloed the final battle. So very very rewarding.
I would expect/hope that EPL will be largely unaffected. After all, there's still going to be people rolling DKs. It would be very weird for them if they go through the starting area and then when they come out of phase its "BAM - sorry this is no longer the Plaguelands and the Lich King is already vanquished. Goodbye."

I want Manrik's Wife to stay lost. She's such an important WoW meme, i would hate to see her go
styopa Nov 4th 2009 9:45AM
Mankrik's wife:
"We battled in a small tauren camp when we were separated--she held three of the Bristlebacks off by herself. But the odds began to overwhelm us. I led some away only to see her overwhelmed by newcomers. In my rage, I turned to face my enemies, but they brought me down easily with their vast numbers.
I awoke to a tauren druid tending my wounds--he had come across me on the Gold Road as I fell.
Please, , find some sign of my wife. "
Doesn't that smell suspicious to you? He "led some of them away"? An orc, admitting fleeing while his WIFE was staying in combat? For that matter, why didn't he ask you to REZ his wife? I think he WANTED her dead, and then cried crocodile tears to get the sympathy of adventurers or to get rid of a strangely huge pile of Boar Hunter Capes and Grassland Sashes lying behind him.
I think she should be gone....and Deathwing should bring her back as some terrible, massive, 100' tall evil boss (the new 40-man world boss) who broke open the land ripping her way out of Hell, and now stomps the lands formerly known as the Barrens seeking vengeance for her betrayal and murder.
Oh, and anyone that did the quests for her husband? She gets +10% damage against them. >:)
