Breakfast Topic: What you hope survives the cataclysm

Personally, as dumb as I know this will probably sound, when I think about old Azeroth my mind immediately returns to a tiny quest called Until Death Do Us Part. It's started by a bitter Forsaken who wants you take a pendant to her husband's grave at the Sepulcher. If you only wanted to look at it in terms of game mechanics, then it's a Fed-Ex quest designed to get you across the ocean and questing in Silverpine, but even with all the improvements to questing today, it stands apart. It's a very long journey for a young character, and when you finally arrive at the Sepulcher and find the husband's grave, you realize you've come all this way to deliver a worthless trinket to someone who threw his life away on a hopeless cause. You turn it in and...that's it. There is no follow-up. There is no happy ending. There is, however, the feeling that there's more to the savagery of the Forsaken than meets the eye.
Blizzard is actually trying to move away from quests that emphasize text over cool visuals, and it makes me a little sad just because Until Death Do Us Part was, from a writing standpoint, a masterpiece of effective writing and quick exposition. I'm hoping that, out of all the quests that stand to get axed in Cataclysm, this little gem survives.

One thing I hope DOESN'T survive are Murlocs. I seriously hope that Deathwing hunts down and mutilates and burns every last one until all that remains is a charred skeleton in the Museum of Stormwind.
Fucking Murlocs.
Muse Nov 4th 2009 8:54AM
Except for Old Icefin. Poor old bugger.
Pemberton Nov 4th 2009 9:33AM
I'm not fighting him, if that's the case. ALL HAIL DEATHWING!
mariodcole Nov 4th 2009 10:53AM
Dude, Wheres My Murloc?
silentfox Nov 4th 2009 3:35PM
If all Murlocs die then I would like to see a quest where there are random baby murlocs that survived scattered somewhere and something similar to the Kaluak makes you go and get the babies in a bag and bring them to it. Except you see the babies running around after you bring the bag back so you know they aren't being eaten or something. And then after a while there will be a spot filled with tons and tons of Murky's and etc running around ^_^.

I hate to see what happens to Auberdine. When I saw the trailer and I saw what happens to Darkshore, I screamed out "NOOOO!!". No matter what character Im playing, Human, Night Elf, Draenei, gnome, or even dwarf I make myself over there and do those series of quests because I love the stories, the environment, and it still gets me whenever I do the quest for two night elves that love each other and one is dead and I have to go kill her ghost to release her soul. I hate to see this zone go more than any other.

/thirded. and also Elder Ezra Wheathoof.
i don't even play horde, but if they go, i will definitely be pissed.
Angrycelt Nov 4th 2009 3:19PM
No way this can go. Something that seemed to mean so much to Blizz that they put it in as a tribute. Every one of the (admittedly few) Horde characters I've made come to do this one, just to let that kid's voice be heard one more time.
Great, now I made myself sad.

Favourite "wait, what?" quest items that are in very real danger of being taken out since they are in Azshara:

and

Which both catalogue in, "So absurd it's hillarious, then sad once you realise you just looted their corpse."

I want the paladin quest for the Charger to stay, especially the one Horde side.
I'll explain before you all think I'm insane:
I got all the mats for it, thanks to money pumped from my main. I sat for 3 hours in LFG waiting for somebody to do Strat with, because none of my friends were on to boost me through it. Eventually, I decided to go in and solo the little bit of the instance. Luckily, I had the back-door key.
And so, as a level 60 prot paladin - I went in and soloed part of Stratholme, including the 4(5?) paladin guys you have to kill as a Belf.
It was just such a feeling of great accomplishment for me, and also the reason why I still love my paladin to this day!

The entire Linken Quest chain, the first time I did it way back in Vanilla on my old Undead Mage and I still do it on all my alts to this day.

Mangeclaw must survive, when me & my brother were first playing WoW together we decided us two dwarves were going to hunt down Mangeclaw and tame it for my brother.
I was a young aspiring Dwarf Paladin & he was a Dwarf Hunter, we ventured across Dun Morogh on our short stubby legs and went into the unknown wilderness that is North Gate Outpost. with a little bit of Aspect of the Monkey & Holy Light the beast was ours.
And no matter that the bear is a white bear (a rarity in the Dun Morogh area which consists of mainly black & grey bears) we called him Paddington, the bear is still today my brother's signature pet despite at the time in TBC the hunting community shunned bears for boars.
Developers "watch yer backs" if you remove Mangeclaw!
SaintStryfe Nov 4th 2009 1:28PM
LOL the first bear I had when I first played WoW on my first character (also a Dwarf Hunter) was Paddington too.
Draelan Nov 4th 2009 4:08PM
Her here! I was level 70, and it was just before Wrath came out when I decided I wanted a tenacity pet for soloing. (since all my other pets were Ferocity) I looked at my options, and decided on a bear. The problem was, choosing a bear... Well, still having the Golden Compass on my mind, I decided a polar bear would be pretty cool. I briefly considered heading to Winterspring, but then remembered this guy. So, I headed on over to North Gate Outpost, found him, and tamed him. He's now named Panzerbjorne, and is my tanking pet of choice. =)
Skarlette Nov 4th 2009 9:14PM
I ran a lowbie Tauren hunter all the way from the Barrens to Dun Morogh (via Undercity and the Wetlands) just to tame that white bear. Mangeclaw FTW!
Hoggersbud Nov 4th 2009 9:03AM
Ah, first the things I want to see gone are:
Trade chat morons
General Chat morons
Yelling Morons
Things to keep:
Westfall. Sure, some changes, ok, but keep the mechs, the farms, the defias. In fact, make the defias more prominent...oh wait, heroic deadmines, oh yeah.
Hordeside things to keep...I guess I like the Ghostwoods, much better than the Barrens or Hillsbrad.
Further in, there's actually little I'd miss, maybe Un'goro, and Shimmering Flats. OTOH, if they added an actual quest involving driving the races cars...awesome!
ghola Nov 4th 2009 9:55AM
^^ this. I've always been disappointed that you can't actually run the race there! With vehicles being added in BC though they could easily add a new questline where you have to win the race circuit there. Maybe even add a couple more tracks around the world and go full mario kart on wow. I like the shimmering flats and hope it stays somehow but will be happy to see the rest of that zone go under the waves.
toxicityj Nov 4th 2009 12:05PM
I love Shimmering Flats. the racetrack is just fun to run around and getting thrown into the middle of the gnome v goblin rivalry is always fun :D
It's also a bit of an accomplishment to finish the quests there because most of them are gathering quests that take FOREVER and the spawns are spread out all over the place. But I leveled like a mofo there because I was rested and the exp from the kills were good.
I'll be very sad if Westfall is touched at all. I've done all of Westfall at least five times over the years, but it's such a nostalgic place to me. I also love redridge. It's like this perfect little lake-front town built up against a mountain. It was a pain to get around all the places there before you could get a mount at 20, but I love it still.
I wouldn't mind seeing STV die in a hell fire though. I've done it a few times on both PVP and PVE realms and it's a nightmare no matter how you look at it. If you dont' get ganked, you're likely to get murdered by some gurilla because it's one of those weird places where the quest difficulty spans like 10-20 levels. I love Booty Bay though. So just wreck STV, sans BB.
