Breakfast Topic: What you hope survives the cataclysm

Personally, as dumb as I know this will probably sound, when I think about old Azeroth my mind immediately returns to a tiny quest called Until Death Do Us Part. It's started by a bitter Forsaken who wants you take a pendant to her husband's grave at the Sepulcher. If you only wanted to look at it in terms of game mechanics, then it's a Fed-Ex quest designed to get you across the ocean and questing in Silverpine, but even with all the improvements to questing today, it stands apart. It's a very long journey for a young character, and when you finally arrive at the Sepulcher and find the husband's grave, you realize you've come all this way to deliver a worthless trinket to someone who threw his life away on a hopeless cause. You turn it in and...that's it. There is no follow-up. There is no happy ending. There is, however, the feeling that there's more to the savagery of the Forsaken than meets the eye.
Blizzard is actually trying to move away from quests that emphasize text over cool visuals, and it makes me a little sad just because Until Death Do Us Part was, from a writing standpoint, a masterpiece of effective writing and quick exposition. I'm hoping that, out of all the quests that stand to get axed in Cataclysm, this little gem survives.

The only complaint I have about 'class' questlines revolve around the mage and warlock 'gear' quest lines.
These questlines are fairly long (no big deal) and have a lot of travel time (lowe level mounts will really help with this). But the biggest problem is that the gear they reward is usually useless -- as it is lower level than the zones you are required to visit to acquire the mats. My favorite being the quest for the necklace in ZF, which rewards you with a piece of gear appropriate for desolace. [NOTE: I have not run this questline in a long time and Blizz may have addressed it already, please don't flame me for not keeping track of every quest I ever ran.)
Please blizz, fix this. the gear from long, complex questlines should prepare the quester for the NEXT zone, not the current, or heaven forbid, previous zones.

If we lose Southshore then we lose my favorite Horde quest from Tarren Mill. Hecular's Revenge! I remember the first time I did it, before they nerfed him way back when. That little guy would come out of the grave and just tear the everloving crap out of the entire town. Players, guards, npcs, they all fell before Heculars might.

I still kite guards to him every time I level a toon through TM. It's not nearly as fun as it used to be before the nerf, but it's still funny to watch him go to work. Good times.

Dun Morogh.. if that changes i will cry.
Sucks that we (ally) are going to lose southshore, spending 5 years defending it and we just lose it like that. I suggest on the eve of catacylsm launch, everyone forgoes whatever they are doing and meets up for one last back and forth battle across hillsbrad.
Or if no one joins me then im going to go solo Tarren Mill :)
That questline in Darkshire where you unleash "Stiches" upon the town by accident. So many memories of that, everyone leveling in the area at the time banding together to try and take him down. and well Darkshire in general, lots of fun times back in tbc, world pvp events while waiting for kara groups to form (closest FP for ally)
travis Nov 4th 2009 9:57AM
95% of the time, it wasn't a battle... it was ally ganking horde just outside TM

Dun Morogh seriously bothers me. So Gnomeregan has been very recently flooded with troggs and radiation, the evacuation is *still ongoing*, and us young heroes spend the great majority of our time in the zone... helping dwarves get drunk? And the ONE attempt we do to restore order involves slaying our once-kin with the same efficiency we usually reserve for scourge, in order to get parts for a machine to turn them back to normal, but which does nothing but churn out chickens.

Shady Rest Inn questline. =(
sarcastic_elf Nov 4th 2009 9:53AM
I hope Eversong remains largely untouched. The Blood Elves have been through so much upheaval to have their home devastated *again*.
Though it would be nice if they're able to reclaim the Ghostlands.

A very short and sweet quest chain:

I have a keybound macro that plays "Lament of the Highborne" when the default music doesn't suit my mood.
Roughtrade Nov 4th 2009 10:41AM
Ditto!
I do that quest line with every alt.
PKC Nov 4th 2009 10:22AM
I hope that Cataclysm doesn't wipe out all or most of the beautiful, stunning, gorgeous, and peaceful environments in the game. Places like Auberdine, Tirisfal Glade, Emerald Dragonshire, Stranglethorne, etc. and the music associated with them are such a fantastic aspect of WOW.
If EVERYWHERE is covered in lava and in ruins, I'm pretty sure the game will lose a lot of its appeal.
Panzer Division Seco Nov 4th 2009 10:31AM
Chasing A-Me 01 .... Every toon i leveled through Un'Goro got the Mithril Casing to do the escort... it's a trademark...
Please, don't let the monkey die in the lava :(
Candina@WH Nov 4th 2009 10:33AM
For me, I am not sure it matters what changes.
My lowest Alt is inactive in the 40s. I have 6 toons 70+ (4 at 80). And toons in all ten slots on this server.
All of the changes to Azeroth witll be lost on me unless Blizz opens up more char slots.
Arann Nov 4th 2009 4:02PM
THIS.
I'm already squeamishly contemplating which of my toons will get the axe once Cataclysm rolls around. The frustrating part is that I have lowbie alts I'd love to play, but I don't want to invest time (or enjoy the levelling changes coming in 3.3, for that matter) only to delete a character once Cataclysm rolls out.
I wish Blizzard would give a definitive answer on the "more slots?" question, even if it's a definite "No."

i hope they keep the Stalvan quest chain. i always liked doing that, taking a breather from other quests or grinding to run all over duskwood, westfall, stormwind and elwynn. the first time i did it the ghouls scared the plop out of me. but it's a nice, relaxing long chain that gives a pretty good chunk of experience at that level, and ends with some very nice rewards.
good stuff, that stalvan chain.
VelcroLizard Nov 4th 2009 12:28PM
Duskwood in general should remain untouched, except to extend the Scythe of Elune questline, and perhaps add some sort of quest to kill Stitches after he's unleashed (they can phase that into some kind of epic battle or something)
Swifteye Nov 4th 2009 10:48AM
I like doing Mangletooth's quest chain in The Barrens. Oddly enough, he's one of my favorite NPCs. Yeah, he's utterly consumed with bitter vengeance and he's from a race of savage jerkoffs but, dangit, I just feel sorry for the poor bugger.
I wish with phasing we could have the option of pleading his case with Jorn Skyseer and setting him free, or heck, even killing him ourselves so that he didn't have to spend the rest of eternity in a cage so small he can't even sit down!
With The Barrens split completely in two we're probably gonna see more changes in that zone's quests than practically any other, but I'm gonna miss giving Mangletooth one small comfort (revenge) in his otherwise miserable existence. :(
Dragundam Nov 4th 2009 11:07AM
I just realized from this post that Thousand Needles will be flooded. What's at the bottom of 1000N?
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1149
Please don't take this questline away. :(
chipersoft Nov 4th 2009 1:47PM
And what's to become of the salt flats? Even tho it's such a barren place, I always enjoy those quests.
DeusExVeritas Nov 4th 2009 4:16PM
Well, given gnomish and goblin ingenuity, I'd expect to take part in cleaning up their new speedboat racing track...
