Patch 3.3 PTR: Get a pug when you PUG
Because those guys at Blizzard have a wonderful sense of humor as well as an unerring knack of dangling the right carrots in front of players' proverbial horses, they've come up with the most adorable little pet to entice everyone to try out the new dungeon system to be implemented in patch 3.3. Called the Perky Pug, this elusive and adorable little fellow is rewarded to players who group with other random players using the new dungeon system. According to the patch notes, "the more random players with whom one groups, the faster the pet can be obtained."
That means the process can actually be pretty painful. It's kind of like playing Russian Roulette, except that instead of one bullet, you can possibly have four. And instead of bullets you have inept, or badly geared, or socially abrasive (or combinations of all three) players. And instead of your head, it's your... well, okay, it's still your head that can get pretty messed up.
Although instead of your temple getting all messy and ventilated, it's your forehead getting all banged up and bruised by your keyboard keys. On second thought, it's not like Russian Roulette at all. It might actually even be fun.
And even if it isn't, just check out that datamined video from MMO Champion -- isn't that cute little rascal worth it?

I don't care how painful this may be. I WILL HAVE THAT PUG!
I'm not even a fan of small dogs. I like my big dogs, including my 70lb+ collie/heeler. By far the most realistic looking mini pet in the game.

I am with you. Its a cute dog. However I squirm when I watch him look down because it looks like hes snapping his leg in 4 places lol.
Tri Nov 5th 2009 2:11PM
Yeah WTF is up with that leg? lol
Creese5704 Nov 5th 2009 2:34PM
@Tri I wonder if blizzard purposely made the leg look like that because "pugging can be painful" or if they will fix that.

Very nice! Finally! Another dog!
Don't stop there, Blizzard, let's get some more! Australian Shepards FTW!!!!!

My guildies laugh at me for how I've gone on and on about getting this pet.
I will solo heroic dungeons with four afk bad players if necessary for it. This little puggy will be mine. Oh yes. It will be the last pet anybody sees me with, even if I continue to gain others.
Regarding the weird leg animation: That's either a bug in the animation the way MMO-Champion extracted it, or in the game files themselves. It's sure to be fixed.

Pugs for the win.

I love pugs, especially my mother's pug, Frank. As soon as I get this pet, I'll dub him Frank, too.
Frank Nov 5th 2009 3:40PM
@dukrous — i approve. : )

I'm not a fan of the small dogs. As a child, my father told me that small dogs were punting dogs, created for the purpose of playing soccer or football when the real ball had gone missing.
Also, I currently live across from a pug that, when I walk my own dog, slams his head against his front window repeatedly attempting to reach us which then sends my own dog into a frenzy of ... howling (she's an American Foxhound). The kind of howling that might accompany decapitation.
And the darn little things breathe funny. It makes me think of an elderly person approaching their death rattle.
That said. I WILL be getting one of these, despite loathing PUGs in general, and being the healer that will be blamed for any problems that arise in the PUGs I participate in. He's just so darn perky, and doesn't seem the type to try giving himself a frontal lobotomy at the sound of another vanity pet.

Here here.
As much as I am dreading the cross server LFG...I must have that Pug.
Turlagh Nov 5th 2009 10:44PM
And it IS REALLY a DOG!
Dennis Nov 6th 2009 12:17PM
Cool, it's big enough for a gnome to ride.
Terethall Nov 9th 2009 3:02AM
Yo dog, we heard you like to pug so we put a pug in your pug so you can pug while you pug.
Lidodger Nov 5th 2009 2:05PM
I'm not a fan of pugs, but this is a really nice reward for pugging trough the new dungeon system which in my opinion is a really nice addition.
(cutaia) Nov 5th 2009 2:40PM
Haha...I can't tell if you're not a fan of pugs (the dog) or pugs (the groups). Damn you Blizzard!
Lidodger Nov 5th 2009 3:29PM
The dog's, I've seen plenty run into parked cars or closed doors... yeah....
Dresden Nov 5th 2009 3:13PM
Clearly you've never met a pug dog. If you had, you'd be under their permanent spell like my family.
I'm a second generation pug owner and my kids are third generation pug owners.
Here's my pug as a puppy, about to sleep on my wife's slipper.

If you're from Maiev like myself and Lidodger (unless someone else has an improbable name like that) the fear of pugs (the groups) is more of a survival mechanism than anything else. Even bgs are something you probably shouldn't venture into without a premade (at least for alliance).
