Patch 3.3 PTR: Get a pug when you PUG
Because those guys at Blizzard have a wonderful sense of humor as well as an unerring knack of dangling the right carrots in front of players' proverbial horses, they've come up with the most adorable little pet to entice everyone to try out the new dungeon system to be implemented in patch 3.3. Called the Perky Pug, this elusive and adorable little fellow is rewarded to players who group with other random players using the new dungeon system. According to the patch notes, "the more random players with whom one groups, the faster the pet can be obtained."
That means the process can actually be pretty painful. It's kind of like playing Russian Roulette, except that instead of one bullet, you can possibly have four. And instead of bullets you have inept, or badly geared, or socially abrasive (or combinations of all three) players. And instead of your head, it's your... well, okay, it's still your head that can get pretty messed up.
Although instead of your temple getting all messy and ventilated, it's your forehead getting all banged up and bruised by your keyboard keys. On second thought, it's not like Russian Roulette at all. It might actually even be fun.
And even if it isn't, just check out that datamined video from MMO Champion -- isn't that cute little rascal worth it?
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to the Arthas. Petermartin Nov 5th 2009 2:06PM
So is that the first dog vanity pet?
Nadia Nov 5th 2009 2:17PM
Worg Pup from LBRS quest is the first.
Craig R Nov 5th 2009 2:44PM
worgs are wolves, so this is the first official dog.
OutlandishTrendz Nov 5th 2009 2:57PM
Wolves are Canine, so again, it still is a dog...
Peter Nov 5th 2009 3:13PM
Well, actually, all dogs are evolved from wolves, so they are separate species (modern dogs and modern wolves, that is).
Artificial Nov 5th 2009 4:17PM
@Peter: Not anymore. After recent genetic studies, biologists have reclassified dogs and wolves as being simply different varieties of the same species, Canis lupus. Dogs are of the variety Canis lupus familiaris.
Angus Nov 5th 2009 6:14PM
Ignoring the "what is a dog" comments.
This is the first DOMESTICATED dog in the game. Period.
All other dogs in the game are wolf reskins.
This is actually pretty big considering cat pets have had proper cats for ages.

yo dawg I heard you like dawgs so we'll give you a pug if you pug so you can pug while you pug.

I noticed while watching that video, that there seems to be something buggy with the legs. It sorta reminds me of how the old tauren druid catform would "crumple" when it sat down.
I hope Blizzard fixes that before it goes live.

I hate PUGGING so much but I want that pet EVEN MORE so... I guess there's some puggin' in my future, darnit!
Bronwyn Nov 5th 2009 2:30PM
At least the new random dungeon thing makes it like, super easy. I mean, super. The only hard part is if someone in the group totally sucks but I figure if you get started right away there should be enough people who are farming for triumph badges that it'll be a bit better.
Dreyja Nov 5th 2009 2:58PM
That's the problem. I have yet to be in a pug that didn't suck performance wise or that people weren't complete jerks. I think I may be unlucky. I'm actually pretty easy to get along with. ;-p
Tim Nov 5th 2009 2:09PM
Thank god this pile of adorable-ness isnt part of a microtransaction. I'd buy him even if 3.8% of the price went to Glenn Beck.
Jason Nov 5th 2009 2:41PM
If that were the case, I'd buy one for everyone I know!
Nick Nov 5th 2009 2:49PM
Tsk tsk Jason, I figured most people knew Nazi's were bad people.
