It is really weird that the Draenei and Blood Elf starting zones are the least affected by the Cataclysm considering how the areas around them are affected much. And are they still going to keep those two starting areas (with 2 zones each) separate from the rest of Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms respectively?
Since they're overhauling "Azeroth" why not just "phased out" all players without TBC when they enter these Azeroth-TBC zones? Or, they'll see NPCs but they won't talk to them, and they won't see any mobs to kill.
I mean, majority of the players already have TBC, and with the ability to fly in Azeroth now a reality, I sure hate "zoning" in and out between Azeroth and Azeroth-TBC zones... it kills immersion and continuity. And seeing that huge portal separating EP and Quel'thalas is soo weird, seriously. Keeping the Draenei starting zones separate is fine I guess, since it is connected by sea not by land. But still, it will be better to be able to Fly there without "zoning".
And I guess the same goes with Northrend :p If you look at the current worldmap, Northrend is too close on the Lordaeron side. But then, the next question is this. Cataclysm + TBC end-content in the Quel'danas (Sunwell Isle). I do hope they put in their so-claimed "unique" (and non copied or inspired from another MMO) Phasing Technology there for those of us who were done with it :p
We will see. We will see. Continuity and Immersion vs. Technicality and Time Limitation? Which one will they choose?

I'm hoping they will take this opportunity to discontinue vanilla WoW altogether - make the basic box people will buy when starting out already include Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and possibly even Cataclysm. Otherwise you're going to have newbies spending their first day just installing the game plus patches and such, and that's not going to make anyone happy. As a side effect, they could integrate the Draenei and Belf areas into the "real" Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms, instead of having them float in the Nether outside Outland the way they currently are. Thus, you would be able to take a hippogryph all the way from the Exodar to Gadgetzan, or from Silvermoon to Booty Bay.

@staffan: yep, exactly! This massive overhaul of Azeroth is as good as saying it as "WoW2" that there is no more point keeping WoW vanilla and TBC separated (and the zones as well).
I hope that's the path that they have chosen. They can keep WotLK separate, at least from the business perspective they can still get money out of it. But still, a "massive overhaul" will not convince some < Catac player to buy Catac? I doubt that. Not to mention, whether < Catac accounts buy Catac or not, they will still get the Cataclysm-Azeroth.
I really wonder how much of the original WoW vanilla installer are not needed anymore. Probably up to 80% are trash already. They can add the remaining 20% that are still required as part of Catac or as part of Patch 4.0. Then release as you suggested, a combined installer - at least Patch 4.0 and start from there.
If they want, they can still sell it for price of WoW vanilla + TBC (LOL).
Oh well... I hope I won't ever come to the point wherein I have to reinstall WoW from vanilla to Cataclysm...
