WoW Fifth Anniversary Sweepstakes

Essentially, as long as you're a player whose account is active when they pull your name out of a kodo-skin hat and hasn't gotten into trouble for breaking the EULA, you're automatically entered in the sweepstakes. Players qualify for certain prizes depending on how long they've been playing the game. Check out the list of prizes and player eligibility after the jump.
First Week (Accounts created on or before October 26, 2008)
5 Taverncraft "Charge of the Great Dragonflights" stein.
Second Week (Accounts created on or before November 2, 2007)

Is this "account created"? Or "account created and never canceled and reactivated later"?
Suzushiro Nov 5th 2009 9:17AM
Pretty sure it just has to be active as of a couple of weeks ago. If you created your account in mid '05 but cancelled for a few months in '07 you're still eligible for the '05 prizes.

New Zealand, but not Australia? That is just not fair dinkum :(
Evlyxx Nov 5th 2009 9:09AM
Join the 2nd class EU players.
Josin Nov 5th 2009 9:18AM
Yes, all the "2nd class EU players" who get all the official announcements broken to them first.
Crybaby.
Debesun Nov 5th 2009 9:36AM
A lot of nations have funky laws related to prizes. If New Zealand is eligible to get these and Australia isn't, more than likely it's because there's laws preventing it.
......
......
......
I hope that's the issue. I want that stein :(
Spazmoose Nov 5th 2009 10:24AM
Don't QQ at Blizz, go complain to your lawmakers, and maybe Australia will be included in next year's
(cutaia) Nov 5th 2009 12:09PM
Ooh...Josin. What an excellent point. Information is sometimes posted on EU websites sooner than on US websites. Even though people in the US can still read it at the exact same time that they can, this is obviously a benefit! I'm green with envy.
And get this...it's not just the official announcements either. Everything happens earlier for them! They're probably getting off work right now, even! Damn you Europeans! One of these days America will wage war with you and steal your precious time zone...with Josin at the frontlines.

Dey took ur steins!

I actually thought that was a typo, seems a bit strange that Aussies can't grab themselves a prize... Yay for New Zealand :)
Noscy Nov 5th 2009 5:22PM
As an Aussie to I'm kinda bummed but lotteries and prize competitions are bound to the law at the state level.
So each state requires a submission and approval process to be undertaken, and there are probably some stringent rules and requirements x7 that would place Australia in the "to hard basket" for Bliz.
Hell the government even banned WoW here (for a short while) because it didn't have a classification nor did it qualify for one... after 4 years of being released.
Domi Nov 6th 2009 12:29AM
This is a harsh blow for the land of Aus. Blizz favors the sheep? PREPOSTEROUS!
...explains polymorph though.

New Zealand is like Australia's little brother who steals all of Australia's toys.
Demis Nov 5th 2009 9:12AM
We Europeans will have to wait till February, since we launched a few months later then US and Canada. Or they'll just skip us.
Riltia Nov 5th 2009 9:53AM
Not true - 4th Anniversary achievement in the EU? 23rd of November I believe, at least, on my priest that's the date that is given.
rosencratz Nov 5th 2009 10:50AM
Riltia - So the achievement you got last year is the evidence your giving for when the game came out 4 years ago?
Regardless the 4 year anniversary celebration was for WoW in general, not your local release of WoW, otherwise every single Realm would have a different anniversary date.
I doubt Europe will get these sweepstakes at all, too many of our countries have too many laws preventing such things. It would be considered a form of gambling for one thing and the age restriction on the game wasn't rated with the concept of gambling in mind.

They should have made the 2004 deadline something like 'December 31st 2004 and earlier,' to cover the folks who got into WoW around or on Christmas 2004.
Oneiromancer Nov 5th 2009 9:48AM
That would be me, too. I played in the WoW beta and knew I wanted the game, but also knew that Christmas was coming up and I'd just be able to get it then. Ah well, this is all a reward for loyalty, and if you bought the game the day it came out and are still playing, that's pretty damn loyal.
perderedeus Nov 5th 2009 10:57AM
I hear ya, Oneiromancer. I don't know WHY the fiance and I decided to wait until Christmas, since we were both in the Stress Test and Open Beta, but... it is what it is. Should have just ripped into those collector editions on day one and signed up.
