We mention a ninja of
the Onyxia mount in
this week's Guildwatch, and while researching that, some other forum threads came up, including
these two, both from General, where people say with conviction that given the chance, they'd take the Onyxia mount and never look back. They have a point -- it's one of the rarest random mounts in the game, on a raid that's definitely PuG-able.
Chances are low that you'll ever see it, much less win it on a random roll, and so for a lot of people, it'd be worth the namechange and the server transfer you'd have to pay to escape your new ninja reputation.
Personally, I wouldn't do it, but that's really only because I know there are lots of rare mounts in the game that I'll never get (sigh,
Red Proto-drake, I covet you), and one more isn't that big a deal. Not to mention that I like the guilds I'm in and the people I play with, and who knows what they'd think of me if I stole the mount from them or someone else. But not everyone feels the way I do, I'm sure, so let's ask: if you had the chance, in a PuG or a guild run, to steal the Onyxia mount as your own, would you take it? And if you would, is it just because it's so rare and special?

I wouldn't ninja it. It's ugly as hell and I love my Violet Proto-Drake more. If it ever dropped I'll go "Bleh" and pass. I never liked the small drake model, brings back bad memories of Flamegore.

As much as I would love the 310% speed I couldn't do it. I'm better off busting my butt during Children's week and getting the violet proto drake.
Curse you school of hard knocks!!
Alden Nov 6th 2009 12:12PM
I am still mystified as to how that "School of hard knocks" kept people from getting a drake.
Seriously. School of hard knocks is to pvp like OS+0 is to pve.

guild run.. NO
PUG.. maybe
Anom Nov 6th 2009 8:14AM
would I ninja that rare mount? hell yeah. something that rare a drop is not to be wasted.
Nawaf Nov 6th 2009 8:14AM
If I raided Onyxia, I would tell my raid to need something that's neutral (not for a certain class). I haven't started raiding though.
Nawaf Nov 6th 2009 8:16AM
I would definitely need it if my raid disagrees with my first post, unless it's a guild raid.

Thank the Titans for Master looter, and if the Master looter turns Ninja, then that is 9-24 opened tickets...
Nick Nov 6th 2009 8:21AM
And Blizzard will end up telling each of the tickets they are SOL, because they have no policy against ninja'ing.
Good day.

"What is Blizzard's stance on ninja looting?"

Sadly when you agree to join a master-loot raid, you agree to deal with however the ML feels loot should be distributed - and it is not resolvable via ticket :/
catharsis80 Nov 6th 2009 4:05PM
Blizzard should just institute a loot rule where, when the master looter grabs something for himself, it forces a majority-of-the-raid vote on the other players to let him have it or not. I don't know; I'm just shooting in the dark. Giving someone dictatorship powers is never a good idea, and that's exactly what Blizzard is doing.

Yes.

The Onyxia mount is one of the coolest flying mounts in the game, i've yet to see one and it would be pretty darn sweet to own it.
However I actually have a conscience, if i ninja'ed the mount, i'd only feel bad about it everytime i brought it out to play with, not awesome.
People will think up ways to justify stealing from other players (but i really needed it, but i was the best dps, but i don't know those people) but in the end they are only deluding themselves, they're simply dicks.
catharsis80 Nov 6th 2009 3:54PM
Well stated. Also, many people don't realize that stolen things are just not nearly enjoyable as when they are acquired by the proper and fair means.
Clydtsdk-Rivendare Nov 6th 2009 8:19AM
The only thing I'd consider ninja'ing, EVER, is a 310 mount. Simply because I'm highly unlikely to ever SEE one let alone get one.
Meg Nov 9th 2009 9:43PM
Great job voting down a comment you disagree with!
JediMasterEric Nov 6th 2009 8:52AM
I dont think this is even a question. The only person who would ever have the chance to ninja is the master looter. If you are not using master looter everyone should roll need. Its a rare mount and everyone should have a chance. Everyone roll need and let the PC gods figure it out.
Sagretti Nov 6th 2009 8:21AM
I've seen a fair share of pretty rare drops, and I've yet to have any serious thoughts about a ninja, so I can definitely say, "No."
Can we get a list of the realms and characters of everyone who says, "Yes"? That would save a lot of us from some frustration in the future, heh.

Xire on Silvermoon US, Horde. Stay clear.
