We mention a ninja of
the Onyxia mount in
this week's Guildwatch, and while researching that, some other forum threads came up, including
these two, both from General, where people say with conviction that given the chance, they'd take the Onyxia mount and never look back. They have a point -- it's one of the rarest random mounts in the game, on a raid that's definitely PuG-able.
Chances are low that you'll ever see it, much less win it on a random roll, and so for a lot of people, it'd be worth the namechange and the server transfer you'd have to pay to escape your new ninja reputation.
Personally, I wouldn't do it, but that's really only because I know there are lots of rare mounts in the game that I'll never get (sigh,
Red Proto-drake, I covet you), and one more isn't that big a deal. Not to mention that I like the guilds I'm in and the people I play with, and who knows what they'd think of me if I stole the mount from them or someone else. But not everyone feels the way I do, I'm sure, so let's ask: if you had the chance, in a PuG or a guild run, to steal the Onyxia mount as your own, would you take it? And if you would, is it just because it's so rare and special?

Hypothetically, if I ninja'd the mount in my situation I'd lose my place in two of the best guilds on my server. I like the people in those guilds, so wouldn't want to lose touch with them through my selfishness.
That said, I probably wouldn't ninja even if I was guildless with no friends on my server. I can see why some people would though. A really cool mount with absolutely no downside (beyond paying $25 for a race/faction/server change)? Why not! I'm just too nice to do it myself. =p
Nick Nov 6th 2009 8:22AM
Of course I would.
BigBadGooz Nov 6th 2009 8:23AM
Or your 10 man grp of friends you lead insist that the raid leader that shows upevery week and got the grp together to do tribute to insanity with a backdoor deal with a pug paying him 15k in gold so he wouldent bitch /onexiamount for me

Anyone that says yes to this needs to be frag bombed. By a gnome engineer. Specifically mine. I

I could never ninja a mount, no matter how cool it is. It's stealing. I wouldn't be able to enjoy riding that mount, because every time I used it I'd be reminded that I just stole it.
Personally, as far as I can tell there are no Onyxia mounts on my server yet. At least I've never seen one.
But there's always hope! I won the roll for a Grand Black War Mammoth in VoA25, pretty low odds there.

How is needing on a mount Ninja-ing? I just don't get that..
birdshake Nov 6th 2009 8:28AM
No. I could really care less about mounts. Tis all about gear.
Speaking of NINJA's Blizz really needs to get on the ball and make this a permanent ban offense. A lot of the top guilds on my realm are known NINJA's with screenshots and videos for proof and no matter how much we report NOTHING ever happens to them.

And I doubt Blizzard will ever do anything about it. Like stated in a previous post Ninjaing is not against Blizzard's Terms of Service, therefor there is no in game repercussions from Blizzard's standpoint. I would assume Blizzard does not like the concept of a Ninja but this is a social issue and not a game/economy altering issue such as using a exploit or buying gold. So in the end those guilds on your server will never feel anything other than from other players, Blizzard is not going to intervene whether we agree with that or not.

"Like stated in a previous post Ninjaing is not against Blizzard's Terms of Service"
I suppose you mean the Terms of Use. Blizzard can change the Terms of Use whenever they want, and the ToU already says that Blizzard can basically ban you for "Anything that Blizzard considers contrary to the "essence" of the Game". So the ToU wouldn't prevent Blizzard for taking action against ninjas.
"I would assume Blizzard does not like the concept of a Ninja but this is a social issue and not a game/economy altering issue such as using a exploit or buying gold."
True, but Blizzard already punishes people for social issues like trade chat scamming: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=20459&parentCategoryId&pageNumber=1&categoryId=2415
So why are loot ninjas treated differently? It seems to me that Blizzard has ruled this out just so that they don't have to spend resources dealing with the MANY cases of loot ninjaing.
kingofspades5 Nov 6th 2009 8:29AM
Would I ninja it? What better excuse to do a character change back to Horde from Alliance.
Ratskinmahoney Nov 6th 2009 8:29AM
I can see why the rarity of the drop would bring out the ninja in even the most conscientious of raiders, but...
Given that the drop is quite as rare as it is you're going to have to jump through some hoops to ever get to enjoy the fruits of your crime. Name change isn't going to work, there aren't going to be a great many, say, gnome male warlocks on your server flying around on this. Server transfer or faction change maybe a little better, but tbh if I see a guildless toon on my server with a name I don't recognise flying around on one of the rarest drops in the game I'm gonna be a little suspicious.
I'm also willing to bet that, as with the guy who did ninja this, news is quickly going to hit forums and sites like this, and certain very pissed off people are going to put a little bit of effort into making sure you don't rest easy.
It'd be a little like stealing the Mona Lisa or something. You might get quite a buzz out of actually having it, but you're quickly going to find that you can never let anyone see it without getting your ass kicked.
Mob justice ftw.
Alden Nov 6th 2009 12:15PM
Keep telling yourself that.
Short of spamming trade with "I stol teh ONy mount!" you'd be able to get away with it no problem.
Ninja, hearth, log.
Go to blizzard.com, change servers/factions.
On new server, find a new guild, wait a few weeks before showing mount off. Zone into Ony's lair. In gchat, start spamming "OMG OMG OMG I Just won the ony mount in this 10 man pug!!!". Problem solved!
Seriously. This is a game. This is not national security. Ninja's don't get tracked that well.
Problem solved!
Rexton Nov 6th 2009 8:31AM
My raiding character doesn't even have epic flying. Why would I ninja something I wouldn't use?
Niflo Nov 6th 2009 11:03AM
I just saw this thing drop a couple days ago in a pug and I never wanted to be the loot master anymore than I did then.
Cap Nov 6th 2009 8:35AM
I'd consider it, feel guilty, then fail the roll.
GO ME!
Quiz Nov 6th 2009 8:34AM
Ninjaing anything is never a good idea. Your reputation on a realm is important. Most good guilds would not take it lightly if one of their members pulled something like that in a pug, and to do something like that on a guild run is certainly a kickable offense.
Seriously though: anyone who has ever been in any group where an item they wanted to roll on, be it mount or tier token or weapon, etc., was summarily ninjaed knows how infuriating it feels like so why would you ever do it to other people?
Don't be a douchebag. It's just that simple.
Bobby Nov 6th 2009 8:36AM
I would definitely not ninja it. I was in a group and won the Grand Black War Mammoth and would have been very disappointed had the RL ninjaed it and not given it to me when I won the roll.
timmy! Nov 6th 2009 8:36AM
nope
Karuna Nov 6th 2009 8:41AM
I saw it yesterday! And it was ninjaed as well as the 2h sword ( went to looters guild mate even though someone rolled higher), and the head was ninjaed by some other friend of the master looter.
Foxfyr Nov 6th 2009 8:45AM
I've seen the VoA mount drop three times in PUGs. Each time the Loot Master (usually someone I didn't know) handed the mount over to the winner of the rolls.
Two weeks ago, someone ninja'd Onyxia's head and both bags in a 25 man PUG that 4 of my guildmembers were in. Myself and several other people have taken it upon ourselves to make this guy's life miserable every time he tries to put another 25 man PUG together and word has travelled fast. If it was the mount he took, the only people on the server that wouldn't know about it would be the people that never PUG. It just isn't worth it.
By the way, Onyxia dropped her mount on my guild's second 10 man kill of her a few weeks back. I master looted it over to the winner of the rolls :)
