WoW Moviewatch: Mankrik's Wife: The Story
Some World of Warcraft quests have taken on a life of their own. These quests are emblazoned in our minds like the shining sun. They will never be forgotten. Certainly, Wrathgate is one such quest. However, before even that epic quest, the Horde traveling the Barrens have dealt with Mankrik and his wife. Such is the power of Mankrik meme that it has now become a machinima of its own.
Wowcrendor has taken up the epic tale and created Mankrik's Wife: The Story. This movie has a handful of gags similar to Wowcrendor's previous movies, but this film is a great deal more serious. I mean, it's not straight-face no-laughs serious, but the author is clearly telling a story. It's not quite the same kind of one-liners and sight gags we've seen before from Wowcrendor.
The best part for me was titling Mankrik's spouse "Wifeosaurus." That's a pretty fun shout-out to Wowcrendor's first movie, It's a Hard Gnome Life. I like that kind of continuity. I really feel like Wowcrendor is creating his own legacy, and I hope to see him continue to grow.

Great stuff, I really want to steal the sound file and play it for everyone that waits for a rez in TOC....seriously its a 10 second run back!

"Why back in MY day..."
Sounds like me on any typical day playing WoW. I swear, I sound more and more like the crotchety old grandpa that tells old war stories and yells at disrespecting kids to get off his lawn.

hahahahaha, awesome!!!!
Shade Nov 6th 2009 12:36PM
Hahahaha, great movie.
...odd question though - didn't Mankrik's wife used to be a like...burnt corpse? I seriously remember it just being this charred bit of...stuff at the hut, and now it's a full-fledged female orc corpse.
Or am I just getting my wires crossed and not remembering things right?
Tori Nov 6th 2009 12:47PM
Hmm, well as far as I can remember it's been a female orc titled 'Beaten Corpse'. The area around her has some charred ground I believe, but I think it's always been a regular female orc model.

The thing I always remember about this quest is how I was a total noob to WoW...this was the first quest where I was like "WTF" and didn't know about sites like Wowhead, etc. They did such a good job holding my hand through Durotar that I was like...how am I just supposed to FIND her?! Someone told me eventually...
Tori Nov 6th 2009 12:54PM
Haha, same with me. I remember thinking 'Wait, I'm supposed to just find ONE person who's somewhere in the Barrens? Where do I start??!!' xD It was indeed a little daunting for a newbie with no prior knowledge of helpful WoW sites.

Loved the rant at the end - so true! I remember those days. There is something about this quest that makes it a classic, I can't put my finger on why. Poor Mankrik. Maybe Cataclysm will reunite him with his long lost wife?

.... I think I might be that Druid. That's pretty much 90% of the time I spend playing WoW.
"Why back in MY day we had nine classes, three of which were good, and SIXTY levels! We didn't have any of your stinkin' accelerated leveling; leveling back then was a friggin' GRIND! And we didn't have any o' your godamn Death Knoobs either! If we wanted a DPSer that wore plate, we got a Warrior, and if Warriors specced for DPS they were idiots! *Sigh* You damn kids don't know how good you have it...."

I love the Wowcrendor stuff, if only because the voice doing the voiceovers is so nice to listen to.

I have to say although I didn't get much of this video (the line at the beginning about Alliance is true..I've heard of Mankirk but I have no clue what the whole fiasco is), it managed to entertain me much like the rest of WoWcrendor's movies.
*thumbs up*

Y'know, at first I didn't like Wowcrendor's stuff...but now it's kind of growing on me.
Skarlette Nov 6th 2009 10:39PM
ROFL! I love it. Poor old Mrs. Mankrik, lying there, still waiting for a rez after all these years...
