I was on the
Patch 3.3 PTR for a few hours last night, and I have to say that I'm really impressed with the
Dungeon System, Blizzard's replacement for the old LFG tool. I had a great time with the Random Dungeon feature, using it to
chain-run Heroics and get extra gold and badges for doing it. But extra loot and the good feeling of a job well done aren't the only benefits you get for using the Dungeon System.
Utilizing the Dungeon System to fill one or more spots in your group will grant you the
Luck of the Draw buff, which increases your damage, healing, and base health by 5%. It doesn't matter if the dungeon is random or not, or whether or not your entire group is a PUG -- you still get the buff just for utilizing the system to fill at least one spot instead of spamming the (now) always-open LFG channel.
Blizzard's really pushing the Dungeon System, and after playing with it, I can see why -- it rules -- but some Luddites might be harder to convince, and I suppose this buff is Blizzard's way of saying "Sure, but would you do it for ...
Mr. Lincoln?"
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of
Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to the Arthas.

Ya, i am so looking forward to this to try fill that last healer or tank spot
Nazgûl Nov 7th 2009 4:09PM
Interesting. I doubt 5% will sway most people, but they seem to be streamlining PUG groups.
This is a good move. Let's hope it works out.

I don't think Luck of the Draw will convince the people who won't use it because it's different. I don't think Mr. Lincoln, great orator that he was, could convince someone who is apparently adverse to the possibility of a free pocket full of Hamiltons or Jacksons.
I think the only thing that would bring those people in would be when they realize that Misters Grant and Franklin are spending a lot more time with the people who use the Dungeon System.

So what kind of rewards (obviously not badges) do pre-70 players get in addition to gold?
Djbrill Nov 7th 2009 4:42PM
a far easier way to make groups for otherwise deserted instances?
Spiraea Nov 7th 2009 4:52PM
DJ has it right. The only real perk you get from this system for older dungeons is not having to wait hours, days, weeks! to run a single dungeon. And that my friend, is the true reward.
Brouck Nov 7th 2009 5:14PM
As someone leveling an alt, I have to say simply being able to run an instance below level 70 with a pug would be fantastic. Sure I can get into a ZF run every now and then, but try pugging for BRD or Strat on my server, it's impossible.
Vandersveldt Nov 7th 2009 5:45PM
So wait. Please PLEASE tell me I'm reading this right. It will randomly hook us up with other players for ALL lvls? As in, my 33 druid healer that never gets to heal anything will be able to find others to run with?
If the answer to that is no, will I at least be able to find people cross server pre lvl cap?
Spiraea Nov 7th 2009 7:03PM
Yep. If you're looking for a group for say..Shadowfang Keep, it will find you other people across your battlegroup looking for a run as well and queue you up. It's not just for Northrend and/or Heroic dungeons. It'll work for every single dungeon in the game.
That's the true beauty of this new system IMO

This is one of the greatest changes that Blizzard has done in a long time. It is nearly impossible to get a low level group to run any instances and this new Lfg system will hopefully fix that issue. I can't wait for 3.3 to become live.
Vandersveldt Nov 8th 2009 11:11AM
I'm going to be very optimistic about this... and say across ALL the servers... there HAS to be other lowbies looking for groups right? RIGHT??
Yomamma Nov 7th 2009 4:22PM
For those that don't want to use it or say it's a bad idea...let them stay in Dalaran looking for a group that meets their standards while I chain run heroics, earn gold, badges and gain rep!
Leosen Nov 7th 2009 4:29PM
Pfft, this game is too easy. Back in my days, I had to raid 10 hours a night, six days a week for two months straight to get 5% extra damage. Now, I don't think that's very fair to me, so in my opinion, Blizzard should probably stop developing their game and force the newer players to suffer in the anguish that was Vanilla, purely because I have this childish idea of what's fair and realistic.
Really, it seems fair to me.
Skittles Nov 7th 2009 4:35PM
10 Hours a night, 6 days a week for 2 months? Wheres your life bro? I think if anyone is that addicted to a game they should get a restraining order on the computer or something....
skyman4321 Nov 7th 2009 4:40PM
Haha, funny stuff...
@Skittles: He was being sarcastic lol.
Funny stuff, funny stuff.
Alexander Nov 7th 2009 4:41PM
Sarcasm is very lost on this one.
Its not even hidden.
Magnett Nov 7th 2009 4:42PM
I'm pretty sure he was doing a mocking impression of the obligatory "This game is too easy Blizzard, how dare you add 1% extra XP to all quests? Anyone can hit 80 now! Back when I did it it was really hard and I am skilled and a unique snowflake!" comment that pretty much every single piece of WoW news attracts.
Skittles Nov 7th 2009 4:45PM
yes, I know he was being sarcastic I was attempting to make a joke, and it was sort of a fail...
Shoryu Nov 7th 2009 5:45PM
sarcasm needs its own font.
Gamer am I Nov 7th 2009 5:56PM
@Leosen: You, sir, win one internet.
@Shoryu: Many people I know use to indicate that they are going to be sarcastic, and then to indicate they are done being sarcastic. It's a play on the standard way font is changed in HTML, the programming language of websites.
