Maintenance for Tuesday November 10th
There will be a round of realm maintenance for everyone tomorrow, Tuesday November 10th from 5:00 a.m. PST / 8:00 a.m. EST until 11:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. EST. This is more or less the "normal" maintenance time we've all come to know and love. The downtime tomorrow should not be taken as any indication that patch 3.3 is dropping; that event is still a couple weeks away at best. The patch tonight was a "tools patch," that while temporarely screwed things up for the majority of people, wasn't anything that changed things significantly -- at least as far as we all can tell.
If anything else develops of this downtime, we'll be sure to let you know.

From a Blue Post: WoW now runs with elevated privileges under Vista and Win7, which can cause some issues with UAC and other programs that run at the same time. In my case it breaks Synergy2.
"We won't break that kind of interaction but if you have Windows Vista or 7, UAC will break communication since the game is now elevated. Just close the game and run it again normally to restore it. "

The new patch is causing permission issues from what I can see. If you use the launcher with Wine on Linux, it changes the directory permissions so you can't access the directory until you chmod it 755 (normal write/read permissions.) Loading Wow.exe doesn't have that issue. It does it when you click the launch button, actually. So yeah, I can see this screwing up access on Windows machines, too, if it's screwing permissions up on the directory.

They prepared the client for the background downloading of 3.3 in Mondays tools patch. They do this every time when a patch is a couple weeks away (it just usually causes no problems).

One thing we noticed changed was that the launcher will not come up while the game is active, which would mainly effect dual-boxers, but it's still possible to do so going through the WoW.exe directly. We haven't noticed any other changes though.

I had no issues last night. I do see alot of "Waahh!" here though. Ive said it before and I'll say it again...for a game that serves millions of people using millions of different OS configurations, Blizz does a pretty good job on keeping the game functioning for most people most of the time.
