WoW Moviewatch: Patch 3.3 fanmade trailer
Today's video is a fan trailer for the upcoming patch 3.3. You might have heard of it. A few million screaming Alliance and Horde are going to kick down the door to Icecrown Citadel and have a few words with the Lich King. Those words will probably be things like "Oh, god, my face!" and "Not the bees!"
This patch 3.3 fanmade trailer doesn't use game footage or new voice acting. Instead, Daneimp went into the archives from previous Warcraft games and strung together a series of official Blizzard cinematics. He's basically outlining the story in a montage of Arthas moments.
While I don't think trailers like this fall within the realm of machinima, I always get excited to see videos created by players who are just as psyched about new content as I am. You don't do this kind of thing because you're bored on a lazy Sunday, and looking for something to kill a few hours. And, at the end of the day, Daneimp's video was fun for a few minutes, and I share his enthusiasm for the new content.

WOW.... that was awesome.

Agreed, this trailer really reminded me of the epic feeling this game used to have and that I haven't been sensing about it anymore. It's just great that we'll finally get to the end of the storyline!
Props for great vid!

Nice work.

Very.....Well.....Done

Cool! We get to fight Archimonde again! And it's going to be in some barren semi-desert area! Omg! Mannorath's defeat was only a setback?!
Sorry. Trailers made out of previous cinematics sliced together just don't work for me. Especially when they barely even pertain to the subject at hand.
The beginning /almost/ had it. Then it just went down hill.

Yeah, I agree, especially considering how there’s like a million of these videos on youtube.
Arthomis Nov 11th 2009 12:43PM
the part of archy was when he was summoned and destroyed dalaran which he was summoned by Arthas. Illidan was also from Arthas past since he tried to kill Arthas a couple of times and since the whole movie seemed to be flash backs of Arthas becoming the Lich King then I see those people being in the preview relevant.

now that's a bit rough, it sucked only from 2:10 to 2:50, that's 40 seconds out of 4 minutes

@Arthomis
That's understandable. But 3.3 isn't about Arthas' past. It's about us putting an end to his present transgressions.
Alanid Nov 11th 2009 1:23PM
Yes the patch may be about us going forward to doing some naughty things to Arthas, but the video shows his story. It tries to show WHY we are killing him outside of the "OMG THEY KILLED THE AH!" zombie invasion annoyance (which I loved) because a surprisingly large amount of people don't know the story behind Arthas.

Agreed. The first bits were cut together nicely, but a mage fighting an infernal? Alliance and Horde armies charging at each other? And the fight with Manoroth, fer chrissakes? In a trailer ostensibly about the final battle with the lich king, all this just looks confused an irrelevant.

I agree. I was following up until it started throwing random clips in there, and I was like "Why did the world tree explode when Arthas broke the ice with his sword?" That moment in the video looked awesome, but in a story sense it was just confusing.
JediMasterEric Nov 11th 2009 12:25PM
That was fantastic. I really need to play through Warcraft 3 to see all of this firsthand. Well done video!!
Nathanyel Nov 11th 2009 3:04PM
Yeah I bet this was awesome for those that never played War3/TFT. For us others, it was a boring arrangement of well-known scenes.

Very nice work. There were just a few parts that didn't fit with the theme overall. The night elf running through the forest, Archimonde and the orc fighting the human.
Overall it was a great trailer. Especially showing how Arthas killed his father and ascended into the citadel.
Mr42 Nov 11th 2009 12:39PM
well, the orc-human clash of armies could have been a brilliant move if it was mixed with scourge footage from wotlk cinematic.
archimonde, illidan, the world tree, etc. were a bit off for the trailer. sure, it looks nice, but it's irrelevant for the story, sometimes less is more.
Khremloc Nov 11th 2009 12:58PM
The only problem with that, Mr42, is that the environments are completely different. The clash of the Horde and Scourge in the middle of what appears to be the Arathi Highlands has absolutely no relevance.
I'm sorry, but the video didn't offer anything new to the herd of Warcraft cinematic cuts and edits that is already present. Parts of it had no relevance, the parts that did (those featuring the Lich King walking up to his throne) were pretty good.
Ziberious Nov 11th 2009 12:41PM
Am I the only one who wishes that the LK fight would take place on that spikey throne? It would be so awesome, You'd have to make sure not to fall off, and you would fight scourge all the way up. And when you finally kill him the sun starts pushing through the clouds.
BigBadGooz Nov 11th 2009 12:56PM
Then 3.4 hits and you need to kill the cloude boss and arthas comes back in a 5 man with a green fel crystal in hs chest.
Deadly. Off. Topic. Nov 11th 2009 4:43PM
And maybe they could allow for a first and only time that the moonkin's special attack to knock everyone backwards will do so.
