BlizzCon 2010: Las Vegas Convention Center retracts statements

For the past day WoW.com has been hard at work getting the story straight on the discrepancies between what the Las Vegas Convention Center was saying about BlizzCon 2010, and what Blizzard was saying. Until recently, the LVCC had been telling us, and others, who inquired that BlizzCon 2010 was being held there July 30th and 31st. Blizzard was, more or less, denying it. Given both organizations are quite large and reputable, this was quite a confusing situation.
However as of this afternoon, the Las Vegas Convention Center emailed us to let us know that due to their human error, the confirmation they were giving was false.
According to the LVCC, Blizzard and the LVCC had spoken once about having BlizzCon 2010 in Las Vegas, and a hold was placed on those dates as a marketing tactic to entice Blizzard to the area. However, that hold was inadvertently turned into a confirmed booking, leading to the inaccurate confirmations and resulting issues.
The LVCC has apologized for the confusion, and thus ends the saga of BlizzCon in Las Vegas.

£10 (or local currency equivalent) that it really does happen at the LVCC and Blizzard has just ordered the Convention Center to shut the hell up about its plans before it announces them itself.

Yes, it'll still happen in Las Vegas but not in July anymore.
Lethality Nov 13th 2009 3:35PM
Well that still doesn't mean it won't happen...

I would love to see it held in Vegas. I am sick of Left Coast being the Blizz-Con home.
Vegas is not exactly East Coast, but it's closer and better than any previous venue.

Las Vegas really isn't much closer in terms of travel time for people traveling longer distances.
I would probably guess the story that it was a screw up was true. There's not a lot of reason for Blizzcon to move at this time.

Hah. Vegas is a cartoon of itself from the 70s. What a hole.
I'd rather Blizzcon be held in Colorado. Or Ohio. Somewhere with, you know, real people.

I still think it will be in LA. Blizz headquarters is in Anaheim and they use a lot of their staff during the event. It would be extremely costly for them to run the even in Vegas, and for that reason alone I still believe it will be held in their backyard at the Anaheim convention center.

Actually Blizzard Headquarters is in Irvine, not Anaheim. I too would rather have blizz con stay in California, Las Vegas is, in my opion, kind of low class for Blizzard.

It's not much closer, but it's much much easier and more tourist-friendly. A flight to Vegas is cheap, lots more hotel rooms so they're cheap, and there's something else to do there so I could bring a friend or my brother or something.

"hard at work" wasting all readers time and money on unconfirmed info.

I fail to see how calling a company up, identifying ourselves as press, and then reporting on the given information is using unconfirmed information.
Maybe that's just me though.
Masarah Nov 13th 2009 3:52PM
I fail to see how what was reported cost you a cent?
Ian R. (Orkchop) Nov 13th 2009 4:07PM
REVEAL YOUR SOURCES WOW.COM! Oh wait, you did,.... and you got official responses from both organizations involved. You did everything a professional press organization would do (and some did do)....
errrrr,.... ummmm,....
MIKE SCHRAMM PROMISED ME A PONY!!!

"I fail to see how what was reported cost you a cent?"
This.

@Orkchop
"MIKE SCHRAMM PROMISED ME A PONY!!!"
Are you sure he didn't promise you a "pwning"? I could see how those two words could be confused during a heated debate.

Ironically, not very observant.
Fordan Nov 13th 2009 3:41PM
It would have been interesting... Blizzcon and DefCon overlapping dates.
Still hopes it happens, but we'll see.
ZMES_Matt Nov 13th 2009 3:41PM
I've been wanting to go back to Vegas, this would be a great excuse.
Come ooooooooon Blizz, lets see some showgirl costume contests! :-P

Las Vegas wouldn't be too far-fetched a trip to make for me, but at the same time, a few games of ultimate frisbee had me banned from a few hotels in the area...
