She may have felt that getting married was a sufficiently different scenario than dating, so that the understanding they had when they were not living together wasn't valid. It's certainly true that living together is very different than dating, I know.
The question is whether the understanding he thought he had with her mentioned expectations for the future clearly, because if it did not, than the wife is less crazy and more just a bad communicator (and the same can go for him).
