Around Azeroth: That boy ain't right
Outsiders who know little about gnomish culture might be surprised to find that the little devils have a pretty strict eugenics policy. Gnomes who are exposed to excessive radiation, such as Timidger of <The Mafia Inc> on Dath'Remar, are given a mount, a sack of gems, and a strongly warded warning never to return to Ironforge. They generally don't prosper on their own. This picture was taken shortly before Timidger was eaten by his own horse.
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val'kyr on mounts, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found here.

I wonder how many people actually know what eugenics is. My guess is this went over a lot of people's heads.
Silversol Nov 14th 2009 1:07PM
"Eugenics is the study and practice of selective breeding applied to humans, with the aim of improving the species. Widely popular in the early decades of the 20th century, it has largely fallen into disrepute after having become associated with Nazi Germany."
From wikipedia... because I didn't know... maybe it save someone else having to look it up also xD

Also a simple minded view of how natural selection works. Anyway, funny pic, funny commentary Liz :)

If you're in high school and don't know what eugenics is; you're the reason it was invented.

That might be the best title for Around Azeroth I've seen.

This is the most offensive thing I've come across on this blog. How many readers do you think have mentally disabled family members? This is completely inappropriate for a semi-professional writer such as yourself Ms. Wachowski.
Dementron Nov 14th 2009 3:18PM
Personally, I thought it was hilarious, but that was mostly the idea of him being eaten by his own horse.
I'm sure that Ms. Wachowski wasn't thinking about any serious ramifications of eugenics, and that the vast majority of readers don't really think it's a good idea to harm innocent people just because they have a disability.
That being said, I think the topic is still in rather poor taste for a widely-read blog about a video game...

One of the best way to overcome grief is to laugh at it. Take things too seriously too often and your friends may find somewhere else to be.
MrMindless Nov 14th 2009 5:15PM
its only a joke don't take everything to serious
We can't laugh with disabled
We can't laugh with other nationalities/religions/beliefs
We can't laugh with someone we know
We can't laugh with politicians
what can we laugh with: the weather?
Elizabeth Wachowski Nov 14th 2009 9:30PM
Crescent and homer, I wasn't referring to any mental disability, but rather gnomes that have been irradiated and are turning into "leper gnomes". Thus the 'too much radiation.'
Angela Nov 14th 2009 3:49PM
"strongly warded warning"
should be:
"strongly worded warning"
Note the "o".
homerjwho Nov 14th 2009 6:44PM
Very offensive, IMO. and as for MrMindless' coment, that sounds to me like the typical response of an ignorant bigot. Saying that 'We can't laugh with other nationalities/religions/beliefs' or that we 'We can't laugh with disabled', is like saying 'I can't point at that foreign man in a wheelchair and call him offensive names'. I love the Around Azeroth' section usually, and I hate to complain, but Ms Wachowski had to see this coming.

"But surely, expulsion is not the answer!
I'm afraid expulsion is the only answer
It's the opinion of the entire staff that Dexter is criminally insane
That boy needs therapy, psychosomatic,
That boy needs therapy, purely psychosomatic
That boy needs therapy
Lie down on the couch! What does that mean?
You're a nut! You're crazy in the coconut!"

Anyone who is angry about this: Why are you angry? Is it because you pity people with disabilities? Everyone I've ever known with a disability, be it mental, physical or otherwise, has known how to laugh at themselves and has appreciated THAT mentality far more than that of those who treat them with absolute respect and courtesy.
I suggest you go look up "Retarded Policeman" on youtube, as well.
IIthryn Nov 15th 2009 3:13PM
I'm not angry. I just wish this had been funny.
